i posted this in the quick post section of bad web already, along with the normal forum i usually lurk on (mcusa forums) i've had some good feedback on badweb, yet on mcusa's i was told to post my question here, due to the fact that court knows Erik personally, so here is the post i put in the quick post section....

alright guys (and girls) I just earned my eagle scout rank in boy scouts (which i'm very proud of!!!) and during my court of honor, the scout usually gets letters of congratulations from big names such as the president and other top congress officials, some famous people if you bother writing to them telling them about your achievment, and other such people, i thought it would be the coolest thing ever to get a letter from erik buell if he'd even bother writing me one, yet i have no idea on how to contact him, or whom to send a letter regarding asking erik to write me a letter, do any of you guys have any ideas on how i should go about contacting him, or whoever?....any help would be greatly appriciated!!!

face book, works well. several people have him as a friend and he looks at it semi-reg. or court could get him for you if he has not already. I assume your court of honor is still a couple months out?

congrats on the accomplishment, I remember getting mine some years ago, it was one of the greats moments of my life. I was a scout master up until about 2 years ago when I returned to school.

yea, my court of honor wont be until the spring (my best friend has also been in scouting with me from the begining, and he's only like 1 merrit badge away from getting eagle himself, so once he gets his, we are going to have a dual court of honor!!!)

I did post this both in this section, and quick post section. yesterday i also PM'ed Court, but to be honest, i'm not to sure how return PM's work, does it come to my email, or does it pop up someplace on badweb?

And as far as facebook goes to contact Erik, does he have his own personal facebook account?, or is it just buells facebook group?...if its the group, should i just post something to the wall?, or send a message to their inbox or what?...

Erik's got your stuff.

Would you be interested in driving up to get the letter?

It'd depend on his schedule but if he can do it . . . that'd be super cool.

THANKS A TON!!!!!

I think it would be AWSOME to drive up and get the letter in person, however, it also depends on when that would be, for i'm still in school, and its a decent drive from peoria Il. to east troy (thats were i'm assuming you're talking about) but if we can figure something out over the holiday, or on a weekend sometime, then its def a possibility! we'll have to see about that, but if it doesnt work out, i'd still love a letter!, and i guess snail mail would work.

Should i stick around here, and just keep in contact with you, or should i keep an eye on my email for anything from Erik?

I think a little video from YouTub, like the one where he talks about his wreck and pushing forward, would be cool to play just prior to the letter being presented to you by your Scout master. It would give a little insight to just who he is and why you are proud to recive such a letter.

once again, congrats on all your hard work and sticking with it.

thanks for the idea Buell920, i'll def have to do that, b/c sadley not many people have heard of Buell that i hang out with (may be because i'm 17, and only my best friend has his bike license, everybody else arent bike savvy, they just go around sayin i should get a busa (no thanks!) but yea i think a video would be a good idea so ppl least know why i got the letter (assuming Erik will write me one) but i did write up the letter this weekend, i'm going to take it to school tomarrow, and have my english teacher edit and proof read it for me. English is not my strong subject.)

Hahahaha . . a guy after my heart!

I use a service called "Paper Check". In the past couple years I've had a couple papers I wrote that HAD TO BE RIGHT.

The first was my application essay for Columbia. They made it very clear that they only accepted about 7% of applicants and that the first cut was "any spelling, grammar or structure errors".

The next was my graduate thesis.

The most recent was the commencement speech I gave at Columbia. They requested a copy for the archives. I knew what I had was okay for me to work off of but I wanted to make certain I didn't submit a 20 page speech riddled with errors . . . it had to be PERFECT.

Smart move and it'll serve you well going forward in life.

Funny note: Erik Buell's Mom was an English teacher and over the years I've sent him many memos that came back with red pencil all over them correcting spelling and grammar. He's a REALLY good writer.

It was nice to talk to you the other day and I look forward to helping.

Is this not the coolest community you have ever been a part of. I would never be without a Buell. Do you think if you owned any other mass manufactured good that you could take a ride to the main man's home for a congratulatory letter. Erik is a great guy. Court you arent half bad yourself.

this is a fun forum, i usually lurk on mcusa's forum, but lately, i've spent way more time here, this place is a more active more upbeat forum, and besides, this place is all about Buell, so whats not to love?! ha ha, and as far as owning a buell and riding to get the letter....well i dont actually own a buell "yet!" being a high school student makes buying a new/newer bike difficult, i've been working for 2 years now, and trying to save for one, yet they arent the most common bike in my area, so finding one for a good price is tricky. but i do agree with you dongalonga, it would be pretty awsome to ride a buell up there to get the letter!

Congrats! I cant tell you how much that being an Eagle and being involved in Scouts has helped me out professionally(Military, and flying), personally and has directly resulted in staying alive(...This one time in Iraq...)but thats another story.

I remained active up until I was 25ish. Now Im a merit badge instructor.

Congratulations. I wish I wasn't "too cool" in my teens to achieve what you have. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would.

Good man everyone should want to serve their country. I will never regret my service. Worst case scenario you spend 4-6 years in and decided it isnt for you. Then you have 4-6 years of life expierence going into college or the workforce that can't be taught in a University.

yea, i want to, and i have picked the CG, b/c i've always loved being around the water, between lifeguarding at two public pools in my area for the past three summers, and guarding at scout camp, (also worked lakefront at camp with the boats) i've been surrounded by water, and have loved every moment of it. I've also been on multiple swim teams ever since i was little (prolly strated swimming at like age 7 or 8) My dad was also in the CG when he was younger, so he knows about it, and supports the idea which helps a ton!
