Shot these out the kitchen window at 7:28AM this morning . . . This is the ship built with the steel from the fallen World Trade Center towers. The Queen Mary just happened to be sitting there so I'm including a "bonus" shot.

It's a "school day"--shouldn't you be building something or teaching somebody something?

Awesome! Saw it on the news several times this morn, wish I could be there to welcome it. Sail on New York.

Many NY'ers are proud this week!

>>>That is a hell of a view you have there!

About the highest point on the Eastern seaboard (the actual highest is about a mile from here on Todt Hill) between the Carolinas and Rhode Island.

Nothing slips in and out of this harbor without us seeing it!

Thanks Court I wanted to get over to liberty state park this morning but I got out late and never even made it to JC I really do not even know if I could have seen it. That is one very cool ship. I did notice the tide was really high in the pasaic as its a full moon and all the rain I wonder how close the queen Mary was to the bottom of the narrows them things give me chills going under the bridge

So we're naming LPD's after states now. We use to name warships after states now we name warships after politicians. Oh wrong board? Nice looking ship though

It is interesting that the U.S.S New York has NO visible exterior guns. What kind of war ship is it?

For ship specs, see http://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_display.asp?cid= 4200&tid=600&ct=4

Shows 30mm and .50 cal. Good persuaders.

How about we plan a ride to the home port in Norfolk, VA when it moves?

Don't worry, there are "guns" on it. Mostly defensive. The purpose of the ship is to carry Marines & their gear close to shore so they can get in & out.

Commonly referred to as a "Gator Freighter" (LPDs, LHAs, LHDs, etc.).

The back of the ship has a landing pad on top & a well deck below, from which an amphibious assault can be launched.

Many fond & not so fond memories of time spent on amphibs.

I have a feeling this 1 will do the fleet proud & may the crew it carries always find safe seas on their path of defending our nation.

Thanks for the pics Court & Semper Fi!

The news reported this morning that the dock pilot bringing her in was the brother of a fire fighter who lost his life in the south tower on 9/11. Court, your pictures may have been taken with him at the helm. Maybe you could find a way to send him some copies? If I were him, that kind of gesture would be much more meaningful than some press-conference glossy taken by someone just doing their job. Just a thought...

Cool idea. . . if you have any contact info let me know and I'll have and 8"x10" printed and deliver to him. I'll bet he lives within minutes if he's a pilot.

I was at the Intrepid museum in Manhattan last week, and the NY was harbored next door. Talked to a bunch of sailors who were serving aboard it. The public was allowed to tour the ship after I was there but couldn't make it. Really poetic that the ship was moored in Manhattan, so close to the WTC site.
