A big thanks from Jack to an anonymous person who sent the box full Buell swag.

When I broke the news to Jack that Harley had just shut down Buell, it took him a second to figure it out. You could see the look on his face when it dawned on him, and he said (and I am quoting what he said... I could only wish I was smart enough to make this kinda stuff up)....

quote:

What! They aren't going to make Buells anymore? That means when I grow up I'll have to buy a Kawasaki!

(And the way he said it, you could tell that was a bad thing ; ) ).

We were both sulking for a few days, but we are also both getting much more optimistic now.

The box of most excellent swag was icing on the cake... thanks SO much.

Erik and the Elves *did* get the memo, and it turns out the %#$&%$# thing was on HD Letterhead.

But I know they are going to ignore it. Some will continue to build motorcycles that manifest the American spirit, some will move on to bless us in other endeavors, some will retire justifiably proud of what they have accomplished.

I know not a single one will quit though...

Thanks again to Buell Motorcycle Company, and all the people that make it so special.

When the 9 year olds get to be 14~16, they be in the garage with their Dads rebuilding an old Buell instead of an old Triumph or HD......

My sixteen year old daughter was not happy either. Has designs on getting her MC license in the next year and really wanted a Blast (OK, truth be told she was lusting after a Firebolt, until I pointed her to the more reasonable first bike).

She has been riding a little TLR200 around practicing. Still going to try to find a Blast, but will have to be used I guess.

You got it Two. I'm still debating if I want to subject the poor guy to an S1, or do the practical thing and make it a 9s.

UlyRanger, Build a Firebolt with a Blast engine. very cool!

Reepicheep, I'd go with the 9s (I've gotten too many wheelie tickets on my S1)

If you look on my profile youll see that the whole motorcycle thing is sort of a hobby, not a passion. Old British cars (with the factories long gone)are my passion save for one, but thats another story. First and foremost, Im a grade 8 gearhead. With that said...

I have held off saying this, but for what its worth:

There was a dark time in the 80s and early 90s when LBC(Little British Cars) parts were truly scarce. Low and behold now the totally opposite has happened. There are more go-fast and aftermarket parts out there to make ones head spin. If the worst case situation just happened, the future still is bright. We just need to hang in, and keep the bikes on the road.

We were recently able to obtain an 09 xb12xt, and my favorite part of it so far was surprising our 10 year old son with it as we picked him up from school on the day we got it and listening to him giggle in his helmet the entire way home.
