Not quite sure how this would fit into your presentation of sorts, if I'm reading between the correct lines here, but KTM adopted/stole the underslung exhaust for it's new RC8 Superbikes. I'm unfamiliar with whether or not they borrowed/leased copyright for that, or if there is even C. on that at all, but it's a pretty substantial comment on the desirability of the design technology. IIRC it's also the design basis for the Ducati V-4s I saw in Ducati Island @ the Indy GP. If "mimicry is the highest compliment per flattery", Buell is being complimented by KTM AND Ducati at the same time in design basis. (I'm all excited and don't even know what you guys are working on.) Hey Court, can you send me a PM when you have time? I'm looking for my Suspension guru from my CCS days, who was with Buell/H-D. I liken this as :the 9/11 of American motorcyles. NY garnered unpresedented sympathy from around the world,the difference I see is this, to be turned into a passion- a real, unlimited, superbike-not as the vincent- limited to 200 miles of, not at, hyper speed before the medic was called. the bike only Erik Buell can deliver- without the previous restraints that was there yet gave us ,the bikes we now ride and cherish. I just posted a simple fact and I'll do it here, too. Buell motorcycles are widgits in the eye of the dollar bill. Its all about making money. Its up to us, the clientele. If there is DEMAND, the investment dollars will move to answer that DEMAND. BMC must make money and the dealers must make money. Otherwise, it is all for not. Make sure they're going to make money. | ||

Oh, keep the chatter up on the forum, by all means. A person needs a place to keep track of the "public" side of the discussion. One good idea may be incorporated into something. On the other hand, I won't tell you to whom emails have been sent, nor to whom telephone calls have been made. A cheap aside is having coffee tomorrow with a "nameless" retired investment deal maker who taught me how to keep my feet on the ground for an IPO some time back. He grades my paperwork and keeps me focused. There's an arc of ascension between "butt wind stage" and the goal line. The butt wind serves a purpose for separating the wheat from chaff. It also serves as a decoy for what's behind the scenes so one's competitors are note getting the straight story and use information against you. I like this forum, it feeds my inner nattering nabob while championing hope over experience | ||

Court, I must say that Mr. Buell and Company has the best friend in the world in you. You have my highest respect for the way you all work. There is no better example of true devotion that I've ever witnessed...such as your's and Mr. Buell's. True Good Men with a Grand following. I too, look forward to tomorrow and that of Buell. It will be what the individual(s) and/or the entity make it, not what is considered fate or of higher control. He's a bit beat up at the moment . . . I'm a healthy construction worker. At various times over the last 20 some years . . . we've each had our ups and downs. There's strength in knowing you can count on each other. He's changed my life, introduced me to the most wonderful people in the world (I got calls last Thursday from 9 countries) and shown me what smart, honest people can do when everyone in the yoke is pulling the same direction and looking at the same star. Once you get past the "visionary", "genius", "guru" and such nonsense . . . Erik Buell is just a down right good, honest nice person, friend, father and husband. He's going to do great! I've got a really interesting example to get you thinking about how to revive the brand in the future. Marillion is a British progressive rock band that has been around since the early 80s, but got a new singer and a new musical direction in 1991. They became brilliant. But, they didn't get much radio airplay or critical notice because their music is so unique. However, their fans are RABID and are everywhere around the world. About nine years ago, Marillion lost their record deal. Instead of begging around to other companies, they went to their fans via the Internet and fan clubs and asked, "Will you buy our next CD before we even write or record it, without even hearing it? If you will, we can make the kind of music we want to make and the kind that we think you'll like, free of influence from the record company." The worldwide fans did (I included) - we sent $20 or something to the band and they created an amazing record called "Anoraknophobia". In the liner notes, they named and thanked every single person who pre-paid for the CD. What's more, they couldn't afford to fly across the Pond to tour the United States. The North American fan club swung into action and asked its members if they would pre-pay for a concert. We did, we sent our money, and Marillion came. It was the best concert I've been to, because the band knew they were loved. Anyway, this is the way to leverage an adoring fan club. Granted, it was no problem to send $20 to buy a CD that hadn't been written or recorded versus making a down payment on a bike that hasn't been designed or built, but I had faith that this great band would create something great, and they did. I'm saying that I - right now - might be convinced to put down a payment towards a future Erik Buell product, sight unseen, seat unridden. But this is all still fresh. It'll be too damn cold to ride the Uly pretty soon, so spending long dark evenings writing something for the cause will also help preserve my sanity. | ||
