Thanks to the Mark and his family for the fabulous hospitality . . . 1,200 miles of back roads in about 36 hours and all I can say is the Rider Comfort Kit works great and the Ulysses is a ball!

I sat out from NYC to West Virginia and kinda tool the . . . er . . . "long way around" and came in from the South.

Very nice...and VERY jealous! Your parting words rang in my mind ALL DAY LONG. So ....you too. lol.

For those keeping score...the first pic is our Dealer Principal and Court, with one of our race bike engines. And the blue S2 is #0069 - we're rebuilding it, and its Aerocharger kit, for a customer.

The "stay in lane" pic...you took that about 100 yards from my house. Funny stuff : )

It was great seeing you again, and I'm glad you had a good trip with successful Uly upgrades! Gorgeous pics. I love the bike on the grassy bridge.

GREAT pictures Court. My favourite for some reason is the first onboard pic where you can see the speedo/tacho (5 pics after the Skline Drive sign).

Two questions -
What's your setup for taking pics on the move?
Is that a standard Uly seat?

In between the pictures from you and Danger Dave, I'm really starting to warm to the idea of a Uly... : )

Right now . . . I hesitate to tell you what I do . . . I'm handholding.

But . . . I just got this new Canon as a holdover until I "Re-Nikon" and I'm learning that this thing has capabilities far beyond what I ever dreamed.

It uses the SAME Digic4 processor of the "big" Canon, shoots simultaneous RAW and JPEG and jumps to movie with the touch of a switch.

I shot about 10 movies on the trip and one of them is pretty incredible. I was riding up the side of a mountain and it was pretty much 8 minutes of flipping the Ulysses from side to side up the switchbacks.

I did a U-turn, headed back to the bottom of the hill, fired up the video and took off. I tried one just letting the camera hang . . . it got great motor audio, poor picture. Then I made the run holding the camera, riding with one hand. The film is awesome, but it's all wind noise.

I'm going to try to rig a mount behind the wind screen and use an aux mic input to capture the sound of the bike.

The most amazing thing about this trip may have been my impromptu "detours". Every time I hit 4 lane, I found a place to turn off and take back roads. I was handsomely rewarded. Case in point . . Highway 50 from Bridgeport, WV to Winchester, VA . . . HOOOOLY COW! Locals will understand.

"Right now . . . I hesitate to tell you what I do . . . I'm handholding."
I kind of guessed that : ). Do you have it strapped around your wrist or neck? I used to carry a little Kodak in my pocket, but could never get it out with gloves on.

Finding "detours" is always cool : )

Great pictures Court. Some of my favorite roads are in WV. At Harrisonburg VA, 33 goes West in WV. I used to see a lot of sportbikes with MD and VA tags making that run. Unfortunately for them, I rode that road everyday, twice a day. It was not a challenge on the S1 so I started running them down on a Sporty. What fun. I made it a point to stop in Brandywine at the only gas station with my bike in clear view so they could stop and chat with the old guy that just took them to school LOL.

I really wanted to make the WV rally but I was unable to get laid off from work in time.

Maybe next year.

It was very cool that you were able to stop in and chat with Joe.

Great pics Court! (and thank goodness for broadband connections!) I particularly like the pics
of the old steam powered threshing machines...and the Buells of course.

How would one go about getting a "Buell Special Duty" air box cover decal? ; )

Hey Court thanks for making the trip to the WV Buell Rally III.
3 years ago we had 8 people..... we topped 40 this year.

We also raised over $1000.00 dollars for the Middle School Football team.

My folks are already talking about next year... They are some good peeps.

Thanks again and I'm sure I'll see ya at some other Buell function.

Semper Fi,

Mark

Great pics Court! Good to meet ya. Funny how I could tell parts of your route just from the pics...must be getting old! 1st time business visitors from DC always want to come to our part of WV by way of Rt50...in January. They only do it once!

BTW which Canon? I've been playing with the SX200IS and it is pretty impressive for a point-n-shoot. At least for an amateur like me.

Based on the color reproduction and the way the flashed bounced, I say its a Canon PowerShot G10.

Ok I cheated and looked at the picture exif data : D

I still am jealous, I hope I hit some of those roads going to Buelltoberfest.

Special Duty decal, M0725.1AU, $17.75 retail

: )

And Court? I shouldn't have let you pay special attention to my flyscreen screws. Stripped one out when I got home and removed it to reposition my voltmeter.

All your fault. LOL.

Now..to find a what...10/24 helicoil?

Court,

Great Pics! I recognized a few spots...Skyline Dr & Harpers Ferry.

Unfortunately I could not make the WV Run; however, I am making a run from Harrisonburg, VA - Elkins, WV - Grafton, WV - Deep Creek, MD, this week. I plan to hit Routes 33, 250, 219, & 50 on the 2-day loop.

Any recommendations on must ride...or must avoid routes?

Terp

>>>Any recommendations on must ride...or must avoid routes?

Yes.

Do not miss this ride . . . . I left the Gainers after dark. Although I'd already checked into my room in Pennsboro I just didn't feel like stopping so I did some backroads (sloooooowly with all the deer) and wandered toward I-79 and stopped and got a room around midnight.

The next morning I started out with the "I gotta haul toward home" and started up I-79.

The Ulysses and I voted and the Buell won . . . I'd passed Highway 50 East and saw on the GPS that I could hhit 250 just a mile ahead . . . I did.

I was rewarded with a world class next several hours of laughing and giggling in my helmet. This road does nothing but twist and turn, rise and fall (fall as in 9% grades) and the scenery is spectacular.

I'm going to go back soon and do a loop . . down Skyline Drive, across Highway 33, North up 119 and back across Highway 50 and back to New York City.

Amazing area.

In fact . . for a bit of fun . . . try that same map on "terrain" . . . see why it's fun . . . you are running at about a 90o angle to a umber of mountain ranges . . . reminds of of Highway 50 (The Lonliest Highway in America) that just got scrunched.

I take that or 55 when I'm going to and from D.C.

Court - when you do your next loop, if you can, plan it midweek.

If you don't mind company, that is : )

Spruce Knob (near rt 33) is one of the darkest sites on the east coast. It is supposed to be excellent for astronomy. That would be an excellent place to spend a moonless night. It is on my list.

If you get a tracking scope and a digital camera capable of long exposures there is some software that will allow aggregating/overlaying numerous long exposure shots to get some awesome amateur astronomy results.

I never know quite when I am going . . I have a habit of going to get gas and coming back 500 miles later.

Great bike, bad habit.

I should grow up.

33 and 50 are must rides. I live about 30 minutes from Seneca Rocks and Rt. 50. Twisties in all directions!

Court, if you need a place to stay when you go on an extended gas run and end up in WV, let me know... especially if you want to be in close proximity of 50 and 33.

Canon G10.

Amazing device. Has the SAME Digic4 Processor as the high-end (like the $5,000 stuff) and most the features. Shoots simultaneous RAW and JPEG and does stuff I won't figure out for years.

I began to notice, as I waited on my Nikon, that nearly ALL pros carry one of these in their bags as a backup.

I'm impressed and it's no larger than a deck of cards.

Um....why? Sounds like what you've got works for you...if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I just need to find a job that will allow me to do stuff like that, and still return to work 500 miles later. LOL.
