Court, The RS made the trip to Joplin.

Let us say it was a, sort of, show stopper.

After the meet and greet. Rex and I waited till all other parties had passed thru. Looking to get both of our bikes signed. Mentioned that an RS was outside. You should have seen the look that came over him. The gleam in his eyes made the trip worth it. What happened later was even better. It was after the seminar, light outside had long since faded. So I catch Scott and ask him if I can roll the bike into the shop for a photo op. He says yes I can. So I roll it in and right past the small group Erik was speaking with.

I think I heard a pin drop.

That gleam, the look that came over his face. The caress he gave the bike. Then out of the blue, he related to the small group the reason for the flipper.

Didn't get the bike signed. Got the picture I wanted though. I also took advantage of opportunity to tell him, in front of the assembled group, thank you for making riding fun again. His humility is simply beyond reproach.

I go on some more. I shouldn't.

This is an amazing thread to read . . . . in fact, I woke up at 2AM and read it on my Blackberry and couldn''t get back to sleep for a while.

Having lived through the RS/RSS era and being one of the few folks who was also logging serious mileage on them in the day . . . I know what Erik and Crew were going through in those times.

The RS represents so many emotions that you'll have to excuse some of us if it takes our breath away . . . this is a bike that can bring both smiles and tears at the same time. For some of us . . . . we still shake our head in amazement that the bike even existed.

I also need to add that I rode the heck out of mine as a daily rider and never had a problem. It was also the consummate "long" Buell (wheelbase was the same as the S2 but the "ass and plumb bob" test will reveal some keen thinking as to where Erik placed the rider on the motorcycle.

It's just an elegant motorcycle . . . little wonder it's generally regarded as one of the more historically significant bikes.

Thank you guys for making Erik's night so special, it really means more than you can realize.

Court

P.S. - Please thank the folks at Cycle Connection on my behalf. In fact, if you have a name and address please SEND it along so I can thank them.

It was emotional for me even. The more I look at last night. The more it means to me.

Just wait till you see the artwork. Cycle Connection had a local artist do a portrait. Did the artist ever catch that "look". You know the one.

I say more about last night after I get home.

The RS just sitting in the parking lot was a hit. I spent most of the late morning/early afternoon just talking and answering questions about it.

The look. You are seeing a reflection of pride and satisfaction not only in the bike but that others continue to see the value in them.

The bike. It reflects 10 years of quite literal blood, sweet, tears and passion; long nights of no sleep, personal sacrifice, pain. The Passion poster was not a stupid marketing idea; it reflects the reality of all Buell motorcycles, new or old.

Thanks for sharing it with Erik.

It was a pleasure to do so.

Would I do it again? At the drop of a hat.

I love the response this bike gets where ever I take/ride it.

Joplin was no different. I usually spend a bit of time talking about it.

The last time I was up home the RS went with. One of the rides took me out to Somerset, Wi. Just had to stop in say hi to Mark at Crossroads Perf. He stopped the shop from working and brought the crew out to look at the bike. Same day I stopped at St. Croix HD/Buell. The somewhat dirty RS had an impromptu photo shoot.

Just something I have come to expect.

I had a great time in Joplin. I was able to ride over the Red S1, which was parked next to the RS. Many people had never seen either bikes.

Erik must have talked for three hours. One hour at the meet and greet, another hour to everyone, then another hour talking to the 7 pm group.

The painting that Joplin gave Erik was super! We need to get photos of that being presented to Erik in Cycle World, Fuell, etc. It is super!

The ride home was kind of cool. The roads were fairly dry even though it had rained that evening, till about 10 miles before Miami. You could see the lighting, hear the thunder, and feel the pelts of the rain, starting to come down. I made it home fine, the S1 running good, and not too wet. Just a little cold.

I rode the 1125R for the first time. Nice motor and tranny.

I always enjoy meeting the people who hang out here.

I have yet to come across someone I didn't like.
