Court,

I've seen several people on Badweb wanting to convert the fairing and tail section on their Buell to a XB12X. Do you think it would make sense to get Buell to list a conversion kit on the accessories section of their website?

Not sure I understand the question. Are you talking about putting the XB fairing on the Ulysses?

Maybe a complete fairing/front fender kit and a complete tail kit.

Court, he is talking about basically what I did to my SS. Complete tail section, complete front fairing, various brackets and fasteners. I don't think it would be practical, it sure would be expensive. Also need to factor in wiring differences between the two bikes.

So the X, SS and STT don't share a common harness? Do you know what the cost was for all the parts on your bike?

After thinking about it more I suppose Buell would not want to take on the liability of selling a kit that requires so many parts to be changed unless it was done by the dealer.

In addition, for Buell to do it would require lots of testing and federal certification.

For Froggy to do it . . . well, it just has to work and look cool. For Buell to do it requires an entire protocol of development and testing to prove it works, is safe and won't bite you.

You can tell Buell didn't design Froggy!

I'm sure your right, I posted without thinking it through from a business aspect.

Maybe Buell should think about hiring Froggy.

Nope. The XB and Uly tail light is different and has a different connector, the Uly has longer wires to reach further back to the plate light and turn signals, and the fuse blocks are closer to the air box. I don't have any pictures of the Uly under seat area to show you the differences. With the help of Badwebbers I am getting my Lightning harness modified to work for the Uly stuff.

Front fairing is easy. 3 brackets, 6 screws, plus your choice of fly screen colors and windshields. Optional is the accessory plug which is an easy splice on 03-07 XB, and 08+ have a plug for it under the dash.

I got most of it on eBay off a wrecked bike. I can break everything down in detail if you want, but off the top of my head I am going to say that it’s in the area of $3k new. Also it depends on how nuts you are going, like doing foot peg brackets, or you only just want the tail light, etc.

The seat once pinched my finger, can I sue? : D

Oddly enough, I was thinking about that today. I got a loaner 09 Uly that I have been putting around on for the last 24hrs; I am going to do a review and a comparison to my old 06. It got me wondering if Buell needs any more bodies to just cruise around and test stuff, wither its bikes or new accessories. I know I would seriously consider doing it.

Hey, I want to test some bikes. I'm laid off for a week at least. So, I could pick it up at the factory on Monday. Stop and write stuff every once in a while. Do I get an expense account for fuel and coffee? I could work on the line for free a day or 2, just for the experience.

Could work . . . I used to fly into Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon and pick up bikes so that I could leave after sundown and be back in Topeka, (600 miles away) by the following morning.

When I did the trip around the county I stopped and wrote every night and did a "Aboard a Buell" radio call in show 3 days a week from interesting locations.

I got expenses reimbursed and paid by the mile so the 16 hours days were a frickin' hoot. But the "Lap of America" was on my nickel with test parts provided by Buell.

Fun work if you can get it. I've ridden in 44 states and enjoyed each and every one of them . . . nothing like getting the "we'd like to hire you to ride to the Honda Hoot or Daytona" call.

How did this thread get derailed from "Uly Conv." to how to "ride for free"?

...........ummm, don't know how to write so well, but can take a mean picture and love to ride...........I would not hang up on "the call" either.

Ulyranger, Now you see how; prospect of getting paid to ride. It's like hitting the lotto. Uly conv. = work, "ride for free" = not work.

Actually it's quite a bit of work to get "paid to ride".
