I just tried to call HDFSI to make my final payment (early payoff) and I wanted to follow it up with a post here to put in a good word for them and their patience with my payments over the past year. I'd always been greeted or spoken to a real and nice person each time, no matter how far behind I was, who more times than not were a rider themselves and engaged me with a nice chat.

As I said, I tried to call. Three times this evening. Each time I had to stab "1" at two different prompt levels to choose English. Each time getting ahold of someone who was unable to help. Getting forwarded and then dropped. Finally getting to a fellow who then could not even take my payment [as a full single payment], needing instead to break it up into multiple payments with service charges applied to each that are double the web payment gateway. I gave up. I still do not even know what my payoff amount is.

I never had a good experience with my HD loan. Service sucked, you pay a fee almost no matter how you pay, and then after my loan was finished and paid off, they were still auto deducting it from my bank account!

Fee? Service charges? Isn't that what INTEREST is? You actually had to pay someone to take your money? That's baffling.

Yea it was something retarded like $2 online processing fee, $3 phone, I think mailing in a check was free, but I couldn't be bothered as I pay everything else online and have never missed a payment nor had an issue.

Can you SEND me the specifics? There has been (I think. . simply based on things I've gotten wind of) a bit of a wrestling match with HDFSI and I'd like to get some detailed and specific information in the hopper.

Thank you for reporting this.

I just did the same thing last week. The first time I called I got an Indian woman who I could barely understand. Everything she said, I had to ask her to repeat two or three times. She finally "put me on hold" and hung up on me.

I called back, and somehow hit different options, and talked to an American guy. He hooked me right up, no problems, and took care of it over the phone. I did have to pay a $12 fee to pay directly from my checking account, but that's fine. I don't mind paying a little extra for convenience.

So, for me it's been 50/50.

HD Insurance, on the other hand, has been great every time I call. I called about changing the insurance now that the bike is paid off, and the girl I spoke with said that it might not be wise to drop the comprehensive and collision because of the relative newness of the bike, but that she could save me money by dropping some other thing, because I'm military and get free healthcare anyway. So she was able to drop $250 a year off my $640 bill.

Holy crap! That's a lot! Have you tried USAA? I paid less than $400 a year when I first got my Blast, and it's been going down ever since.

USAA would have been more expensive than Dairyland. I'm not upset about it, considering it's full comprehensive and collision on a $11000 bike. I would expect that on a $4700 bike it would be quite a bit less... And now that I'm dropping the coverage that I don't need due to having military healthcare, it'll be less than $400 a year anyway.

Thank you.

I'm going to write up a description of what has transpired and see if I can punt it into the proper stadium so that this can be looked at for ways to improve.

Thank you for your help.

I would like to mention my discontent towards HDFSI myself. They charge a fee to make an online payment. This has to be the LAST of all online institutions still charging a fee for online transactions. You would think that something with the letters HD in the name would be a little more advanced than this.

It is much cheaper for a company to accept an online payment rather than pay a person to process a paper check. I can only guess that companies doing this are treating it like a separate profit center.

I've gotten around it by using the online bill pay from my credit union. It's free and I still have a computer record of the transaction. My mortgage company (Wells Fargo) wants $12.00 to pay online. Even if they have another company to pay for processing it's not costing 12 bucks. I'm way to cheap to pay a nickel I don't have to.

Exactly. Someone just figured out a way to make a little extra money.

My bank has an option in their online billpay to mail checks. It's free and they don't charge you for the stamp either. So if someone wants checks, checks they can have.
