Bruce Champion is one of the most accurately named people I've ever met.

But . . . and you MUST remind me to tell you sometime . . . his TRUE TALENT lies outside the motorcycle field.

: )

Well done Elves.

You know Court, you do meet Buellers in the darndest places....

I went in to see my adviser in my new department (ENGINEERING!) at MU and he noticed that I was
carrying a Buell messenger bag...Turns out he is the proud owner of an S3-T. A discussion of
Buells and motorcycles in general followed (of course). I have him thinking about attending
homecoming this year (He's never been to one). He is also a big fan of Erik's and the
Buell way of doing things.

Apparently there are a lot of riders in the department (he should know being the director of
undergraduate studies for the Mechanical and Aeronautic Engineering at MU).

I take that as a positive sign in general, and more specifically a sign I'll fit in perfectly.

Honestly, I was afraid when I went in that they would tell me that there was a terrible mistake
in admissions and that I wasn't really accepted into the program, so I was very happy.

You **DO** meet Buellers in the neatest places. . . I've met them in gas stations at 2AM and at places you'd not beleive. . . perhaps one of the funniest was the guy when I was shooting pics of a CityX in Times Square on New Years Day . . .

I have the bike sitting in the middle of the street taking a "eat your heart out" pic to send Erik.

Dude walks up and asks about the Wisconsin manufactuers plate. I told him that a friend of mine in WI and I share a passion for motorbikes and guitars . . .

He went on about how he was such a fan of Buells . . . .

Then . . . as I was putting my helmet on . . . Dave Waters from FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS hands me his business card. . . .

Ran into him again when I was taking pics of a Buell and a Stratocaster at B. B. Kings. . . .

Odd frickin' world it be . . .

Send me this dudes name, address, shirt size and so forth . . . it would be unethical for you to kiss up . . . I . . . : ) . . . am not so burdened.

You owe me for the "A+".

I certainly do owe you....this won't be the first time that you've come through for me.

I PM'd you the info under the header: "Buell -in' and schoolin'"

Prof. Whelove will be thrilled. Like I said, he is a long time fan of both Erik and the way
Buell has changed the way things are designed and produced in other industries as well as
the motorcycling world.

You don't owe me anything . . . if I didn't love doing this stuff I'd have stopped while the Beatles were still touring.

I'll soften him up . . . your task is to work on him for Homecoming. I'd love to show him around the factory. If he can make it, let me know and we should arrange for him to meet with one or two Engineers.

It'll impact the way he thinks and he'll be a better Professor.

Enjoy and tell him you have 15,000 friends eager to meet him . . .

It's a deal if I get to tag along on the tour!

This being the 25th piqued his interest more than a little I think. That and the lure of
meeting Abe should have the scales tipped in favor as long as he doesn't have anything
already scheduled during that week/weekend depending on if we were to ride or drive up.

It is the fabled (adversarial to me as a Kansas State University dude) University of Missouri. I took some photos there the time I did the non-stop "cross country ride to break in a Sportster" in 1997.

Columbia is a gorgeous town and MU is a great school.

I haven't contacted the Professor yet, but will in the next week.

Thank goodness . . . another Wildcat!

I hope you realize that the Construction Science program at KSU is the best in the country . . . I suppose they still vie with Texas A&M and swap the #1 and #2 back and forth.

I, until I moved to NYC, was a guest lecturer (I brown nosed my way in) in the department on Construction Ethics.

It is an incredible school. I was there on a Big 8 (you don't remember those days I'll bet) Athletic Scholarship (I brown nosed my way on to the team after brown nosing my way to #1 in All-Around competition in Topeka) and loved the school. I was there in the Vince Gibson days when we won a football game about every other year. Funny thing is that at one time there were like six ex-KSU quarterbacks in the NFL.

Little more trivia. . . . but if you ever got around the Architectural Engineering dudes (I assume it's still a 5 year program) the school was named after my Uncles Father who also authored a number of books while there. He's now like 98, living in Sun City, AZ and still writing.

His son . . . it gets better . . . my Uncle is an Astronaut and just received (I'm sure in typical family fashion like his Grandfather's Nobel Prize, his Dad's having a school named after him . . . he brown nosed his way in too) one of NASA's highest awards for the Advancement of Manned Space Flight.

But . . . there's more . . . not only was HE from Kansas State but most . . yes, MOST . . the NASA Space Physicians were KSU grads. . . what are the chances of that.

It was a great place and looking back I should have studied harder . . instead I was busy brown nosing my way into Crystal Smith's life. . . . (you can google here . . .September 1971) . . . it is a great school and one of the prettiest I've ever seen.

I graduated from Washburn in 1977 for my B.B.A. as well (brown nosed my way there too : ) )

I'm thrilled to have another Wildcat here! Tell me you are not an egotistical brown noser? ? ?

I think there are several KSU guys on here. It was a great experience and I can't believe it has already been 5 years (last month) since I graduated.

The professors there were so knowledgable of the industry. It seemed they knew about every company. Many of them had worked in industry and decided to come back and teach (probably after they had made their millions!) The job placement rate for grads is incredible. When I finished, the streak was at 24 straight years with 100% job placement rate. I think it still continues today even with record class sizes.

There are, like you said, other great programs in the country. Texas A&M, Purdue, and Colorado State also come to mind.

Brown noser? I don't know...maybe. I believe life is about making contacts and not burning too many bridges. I like keeping people's business cards because you never know when you might need them for something. It really helps to know people and it helps even more when *they* know lots of people.

Thanks for the words. For a second I thought you were of the Jayhawk variety.

Go Icabods!

How funny . . . nah . . . I don't think so.

You guys would get a kick out of my uncle. The guy is a total genius who has never grown up. . . I took him on a job site once when he was visiting . . . he walked over to one of the workers with a jackhammer, tapped the guy on the shoulder and said "excuse me, you could do serious damage to your hearing".

He was hunting once in Goodland, KS and he, and 3 pals, went to haad back to Manhattan in Craigs A36 Beechcraft Bonanza. He was taking off in a field and the plane was too heavy.

He taxied back. . . while the guy who owned the place took down a 4 sections of barb wire to allow more take off roll.

While the plane was accelerating. . . his "friends" were tossing his crud out of the plane . . . rather that their pheasants.

When he was doing his cross country solo for his license . . . he got "a little lost" and kept landing at various towns asking "is this Emporia?" . . . when he got back to the airport, near Fort Riley, his instructor had gone home "hours ago".

The best story was when NASA used to send a baby blue MSC T-38 to Indian Well, CA to transport him to the Cape for launches. . . one of the young Air Force studs make the mistake of giving him the controls once. . .as best I recall, his words were something like "those things are really touchy".

Sound like a prime candidate for an Astronaut to you?

: )

Like they say about Rossi, he's just playing.

If he's "just playing" under pressure, he's not gonna lose his cool.

Crusty:

Got it and responded today.

Thank you.

- - - -

Jim:

Bruce is the embodiment of everything good at Buell. The guy is smart as a whip, dedicated and works with the ends in mind.

I'll speak to him today and pass your compliments and plans for homecoming on to him.

By the way . . . he has a very secret talent that you MUST see at homecoming. May require a dab of alchohol but you'll be amazed.
