Hi Court, I left this question in the 1125r section, but it probably belongs here: Why did they decide to take American Motorcycles off the Buell tank? Just a design thing or is there a conspiracy behind the bush?

Rainman, I don't really know but I think the feeling was that Buell was getting well enough know that they didn't have to state the obvious.

Back in the day when that started nobody had any idea who we were.

No conspiracy and I suspect it was a combination of factors that included:

DESIGN: just having less stuff "mounted" on the bike.

COST: You may need to go back and re-read the story of the $1.38 cigarette lighter.

POLITICS: Go ahead and advance whatever conspiracy theory you'd like here. . . they all are fun.

Basically. . . the Russians, South Africans. Columbians, Japanese, Italians. Aluets and New Yorkers all KNEW it was AMERICAN.

Plus . . . it eliminates the chance to misspell two more words. I still laugh about the bike that left with BUELL spelled wrong.

Remind me to tell you sometime . . .

From an Anonymous: It was there for a while to make the point of who we were, starting in the days when people thought Buells were "Eye"talian (to quote an astute observer who was explaining the bike to his friend) or German imports. But those days are gone. Kawasakis don't have "Japanese Motorcycles" on the tank, BMWs don't have "German Motorcycles" on the tank, and Ducatis don't have "Italian Motorcycles" on the tank. In 2007 we decided it was time for the brand just to be what it is, a Buell motorcycle.

OK, I can deal with that. Now, how about telling me about the misspelled Buell -- in the newspaper business that stuff breaks me up (headline that ALMOST made it in the paper: Police find crack behind bush...headline that did make it in the paper: Man Charged With Sexual Battery
