Despite the typos go to the other auctions, I get excited just looking at those pieces of machinery.

There are some very nicely restored bikes there.

As for neighbors I think I am the reason why my neighbor can't keep people in her apartment next to my house. During the summer I usually ride to work and get going around 7am, I also like to ride late at night. I think the Vance & Hines booming between two houses less than 20 feet apart can be annoying but its better than that rap stuff their kids play.

First, Rusty, you did read the "there were 745 White Lightnings in that model year" I posted a while back in response to your question, right?

Got this from an old Buell pal and had to share . . most of my career has been working near and for various governmental agencies. Some do fine, others are pure unadultrated cesspools of fraud, incompetence and waste. I concede the same could be said about the private sector, perhaps they just do a better job of concealing it.


A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of
the heaviest chemical element yet known to science. The new element
has been tentatively named Governmentium.

Governmentium has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass
of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which
are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called
peons. Since governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However,
it can be detected as it impedes every reaction with which it comes
into contact. A minute amount of governmentium causes one reaction
to take over 4 days to complete when it would normally take less than
a second.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 3 years; it does not decay,
but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the
assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact,
governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each
reorganization will cause some morons to become neutrons, forming
isodopes.

This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to
speculate that governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a
certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is
referred to as Critical Morass.

I don't think we ever built a real production bike with those. We might have built 1 or 2 in the R&D area that than got sold.

That's an accurate answer. I have a copy of the parts list for the kit, but it was never sold.

Didn't the 4spd RS bikes (89/90) which had conventional Marazocchi forks (maybe with anti-dive like the RRs according to my parts manual) and the enclosed Works shock (pre WP suspension) have dual 4-piston discs? I believe Aaron's does. http://www.dcbrag.org/images/rs1200a.jpg

All 4 speed RS models had dual 4 piston brakes. many had Buell calipers, others had PM.

Yes, my '90 RS has Marazocchi M1R forks with anti-dive, a Works enclosed rear shock, and dual PM calipers up front/Gambler in the rear. The rear master cylinder is a Grimeca.

My RR has M1R's with the anti-dive as well, but they're silver colored instead of black. The rear shock is made by Works (I believe) but it's not like the RS's shock, it's a tiny little thing with a remote nitrogen reservoir with a fitting on it for refilling, which I had to do once. Front brakes are dual Buell calipers, rear is a Grimeca. The rear master cylinder is a Grimeca just like the RS's though.

The RR was advertised as having stainless clad aluminum rotors on the front, but they must've run out by the time they got to 50, because mine appear to be cast iron.

Yes ... build date was like March/April of '88 (I'd have to go look at the build sheet to be exact), but the title most certainly says it's an '87. My guess is all 50 needed to be the same model year for the homologation to work.

RS's until the end of the bikes Vin'ed as 1989 has the Anti-Dive system, Dual Discs, 4-Spd set-up.

1990 marked the first 5-spd and single rotor.

So no 90 RS had the 4spd? {Wait - Aaron's does} The owners manual I have isn't clear on that - which I guess means they reused the 89 manual for 90/91 and added a "insert" page at the end about the 4spd/5spd suspension differences.

Someone better start writing this down or we'll all forget. ;)

I feel duty bound to publicly assert, in the interest of safety, that Jack and I are once again bachelors for a period of time.

I say this, for the benefit of those of you who may be new here, to allow the feint of heart and stomach to steer clear of New York City until next Friday. A little terrorism, a cut bridge cable or gas in a subway you can deal with. Jack and I left with a gas stove, power tools and car keys poses an imminent threat. Jack has already called the ASPCA to invoke something the little bitch chaser refers to as the "Canine Abuse Anticipatory Relief Act" where the local shelter sends in a companion Pit Bull to defend the little fur ball.

We're off to a rocky start, you may have already guessed. There's been no, per se, "physical" damage to the house but we've, it appears created a bit of a rip tide in international relations.

I sent a bevy of hard-to-find-on-Sunday-night-in-London goodies to be scattered across the pillow where my gorgeous locks and my finely honed physique would ordinarily be.

The kid, Devon, (can you get more British for a Concierge') asked that I fax a copy of my AMEX card for confirmation.

Being the cool, world-hopping (I've left the USA a total of once in my life) continental sort of a fellow I am, I put a "Gratuity" on the piece of paper I sent.

Me thinks me lacks Blake's math skills. Devon has called twice to thank me. Offered to go to his Mother-in-Laws house about an hour South of London to PICK flowers (the one item he couldn't get on Sunday) and has pledged to personally drive the stretch limo from Heathrow and stand in his tux outside the door to insure "no undue delays".

Can some confirm the exchange rate between Kansas Dollars and British Pounds? I've a feeling I inverted some "erators", either "denoma" or "numers" but it looks ugly.

I'm revisiting the idea of travel on public roadways this week.
