Court, did these bikes make it to test bed platform, rolling running items that were used for mule purposes?.... I would hate to think that they would collect dust in some corner of the factory, or that worse they will be destroyed as the program has been shelved. The reason for the question is that I WANT one. I will R&D the hell out of it for you all until the program is back on ;) Somebody is getting my dirt squirting bike money, I would like to keep it in the Buell family.

Yes there were running mules of different types, but no they will not leave the building except in cut up pieces in a dumpster. I can assure you that the last and most representative one will be stored away for the museum, to be brought out many years down the road. Whether the program gets turned back on or not.

>>>>I know where their dumpster resides.

There are a host of stories. . . not ready for prime time yet.

The good news for Buell owners is that the dumpster had been known to have a periodic leak.

: )

I've got a couple great stories . . . remind me to tell you.

I think I'd like to know when the contract for garbage disposal at Buell comes up for bids!

There are a cadre of us that would be all over the job just for "fringe benefits"

I would have loved to have "found" the turbo parts for the XB that were disposed of, and I'm
sure that is just the barest tip of the iceberg.

probably going to have to settle for getting a KTM 450 enduro and putting Buell stickers on it.

You'll love it . . . I bought my son a KTM MX250 as a "next step" from an XR100 Honda. . not knowing about dirt bikes.

Holy kamooooolly

The KTM is an absolute hoot.

Don't buy a KTM. Anything else is OK.

they need the company to fall in $ so it's cheaper to by. there was a time not long ago H-D had there eye on them but backed off. It would be a good move for Buell and also give them a new location to build in, a country thats rather safe in the grand out look. also a little closer to other Buell fans. : )

Actually of all the bikes out there, I find the KTM closest to the mindset of Buell. Technology forward thinking, stripped down light bikes, tons of power, off beat cult following, and a very anti-Chrome couch cruiser mentality. Plus they are fun to ride with, remember our bike nights here are multibrand, for both twisties and dual sport rides. Nice bikes and large model selection. I WOULD have preferred to buy a Buell, but they shut the program down. The CityX is too heavy , too wide, and lacks the travel and knobbies for the single track I crave.

1 Long distance Touring
2 Cafe Hoppin
3 Dirt Bikin
4 Antique
5 High Speed Crotch rocket

I still believe that if you put lights, signals, and made it Road legal, it would be a nice DS bike, and maybe even a Blast replacement if the ergos could go to a pure street version too. I love the Blast but she is due for a change up too.... I suppose this is why I dont work in the design department. I would be frustrated on a daily basis.

It was all a ploy to have an excuse to bring some off road experts into Buell, without letting the world know that they were secretly designing a WORLD CLASS ADVENTURE OFFROAD TOURING BIKE.

RIGHT???

Tell me Buell is going to go head to head with the KTM Adventure 990S.

Please?

buell/hd and ktm upper management share no love. if you think ktm is anything like the buell "family" i believe you to be way off base(they do make killer bikes though).

What ever happened to the Polaris acquisition/partnership with KTM...?
That was the buzz a few months ago.

Just because Rotax is Austrian does not mean Buell and KTM (also Austrian)...will somehow be connected...

I've noticed that Buell stylists like smooth, flowing, organic lines, while KTM stylists prefer the bucket of used razor blades look.

The KTM styling is on a down trend. When the RC8 was designed those "stealth" shapes were
all the rage, but aerodynamically they just don't work.

Before someone says "what about the stealth aircraft?" that program places stealth properties
as priority 1 and flying second. Those planes fall out of the sky if the computers fail.

If you want to see what really works for aerodynamics on vehicles take a look at the cars
and bikes that are setting the records at Bonneville. You will see flowing lines.

The fairings from the Buell RR1000/1200 are quite popular there because they are so slick.
The claim has been made that they are the most aerodynamic production motorcycle ever.

Chadley, the Ulysses significantly outsells the Adventurer, so we're not likely to copy them. Hell, even if it wasn't selling better we wouldn't copy that origami crap!

Thanks for the replies.

When I said go head to head with the Adventure 990, I wasn't thinking copy it, I was thinking surpass it with a better Buell bike.

I love my Uly and my other Buells, but sometimes I wish the Uly was a little better off road. I guess that is all I was trying to say.

I guess I need to watch what I say on this board. Wow

I have given Buell the first shot at this next bike. But I am itching for a lighter more nimble DS in the 450 cc range. I still have the street fighter cafe project on the books, and will probably be looking to change up my 2003 883R to fit those needs (tho the new XR1200 is sweet) Guess I am perpetually wanting bikes I cant have .

Continuing the wanting bikes I cant have theme. XR1200, originally planned for overseas only, now canned due to "stepped toes". Apparently any bike that I like seems to be killed at the proof of concept point. Very frustrating : |
