Hmmmmmmm . . .

Tough call and my initial impression is that we, as a country, should be ashamed that we've driven talented folks from aspiring to be leaders.

The Rudy v. Hillary question is, in some ways, like choosing between 2 apples from the bottom of the barrel and being forced to eat one.

Rudy is a strong leader, he'd make a great Governor of New York and may have the chance . . . Spitzer, who I thought would bring integrity to the office, was caught doing criminal stuff before the chairs had been folded up from the inauguration.

But. . .as a Presidential candidate Rudy won't sell outside New York State. The deal about his having Judith shacking up (that's exactly what it was) at the Mayor's residence while his wife and kids were on another floor and his multiple marriages won't play in the parts of the country that actually determines who wins (See Scammon and Wattenburg - "The Real Majority")

Hillary, at the same time, is a criminal. She's never been convicted but it's a fitting testimony to her artistry as a politician that she hasn't. Her list if Stupid People Tricks started fresh out of school and continued to the time she looted (and was forced to return) over a $1M worth of property from The White House. As a politician it's kinda cool that she was successful in snookering the feds into paying the freight to have the stuff returned. She is a shame as a United States Citizen and would be an embarrassment to represent us to the world. I, on a fundamental level, also struggle with having a person as President who has never scratched together a down payment, paid a mortgage, owned a house or had to pay for their kids' education. If you'd lived on govt subsidies your entire life you'd be unable to understand my life and 90+% of America.

I have to go to a private reception for Rudy at a friend’s house this Wednesday night (you can fit all the Republicans in NYC into one living room) and I'll donate but no with much enthusiasm.

I spent two years with The White House traveling with Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush. I was spoiled being in the presence of real leaders.

Now . . .let's get back to motorcycles.

>>>>What's you take on Ahmadinejad ("President" of Iran) speaking at Columbia this week...}

I am a student at Columbia and I think my position has changed during the day today as I read President Bollinger's statement.

The Iranian President will be our guest on campus tomorrow but he'll play be Bollinger's rules or be cut short and asked to leave.

I was initially incensed. Then a part of me that celebrates the fact that the very words he'll be able to speak here would result in death in his own country.

He, to me, allows us to celebrate the best of what we as Americans are and enjoy like no other country in the world.

I'm still undecided but am in the listening mode. I suck as a liberal and consider myself a walking anomoly amongst many of my classmates who hold entirely up views of freedom and the world.

I hope President Bollinger sticks to his guns and holds Ahmadinejad's feet to the fire. I don't think a person can explain away his behavior and I'm betting his digs himself a deeper hole.

We shall see.

For Bollingers statement, go here to the Columbia website.

My bet is that he's gonna REALLY screw up my cool parking gig. . . Here's the policy for tomorrow:

quote:

Dear members of the Columbia community:

On Monday, September 24th, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is scheduled to appear as a speaker on our Morningside campus.

The Department of Public Safety is working closely with both the New York Police Department and the Secret Service - as we do for all major events on campus - to ensure the safety and security of all members of the University community during this high profile event. Please take note of the following procedures we are putting in place to maintain a safe and secure campus environment on Monday:

UNIVERSITY ID CARD NEEDED TO ACCESS CAMPUS
Access to campus will be limited on Monday, at various hours, to Columbia affiliates with a valid University ID card only. All faculty, staff and students must show a University ID to enter the campus.

114TH STREET GATES CLOSED
In addition to the above restrictions, the gates to access campus on 114th Street, at both Carman and John Jay Halls, will be closed during the day. In order to facilitate access to the South Field residence halls, we will open the Taint Gate at 115th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Entry to campus through this gate will also be limited to Columbia affiliates with a valid University ID only.

NOISE POLICY EXTENDED
We also ask for your patience as we extend the University's amplified sound policy for student groups holding a rally on campus between 11:30am and 6:00pm on Monday.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue the work of keeping our campus safe for the many activities of our university community.

Jim McShane
Associate Vice President
For Public Safety

Yea, Bollinger also said he would have invited Hitler to speak. I don't see what is to be gained by the process of allowing Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia. The man already has a platform for his views - the world stage. It's not as if he can't be heard anywhere else or as if he begged Columbia to speak. He has been INVITED. I don't see what the fascination is with Ahmadinejad. The liberals that you speak of, Court, will buy his deceptions hook, line and sinker. It's nothing but a platform for propaganda. Hitler attempted the same tact with the 36 Olympics and was somewhat successful. Court, you said, "Then a part of me that celebrates the fact that the very words he'll be able to speak here would result in death in his own country" I'm not sure I understand your point. Are you suggesting he will say something at Columbia that he can't say at home? Certainly, anything he says here he will be held accountable when he returns home.

Like certain forms of speech - some is protected and some is not. Obnoxious levels of sound are OK as long as they are sanctioned by the elites.

Uhhhhh . . . you are wrong on that one. I for one, heartily endorse the schools "amplified sound policy". When I go into one of the best libraries in the world, I expect to be able to study without the folks protesting non-union laundry workers on bull horns.

I you were paying my tuition you would too.

By the way . . . I'm not arguing for or against. Trying to toss me in with the liberals will be a fool's pursuit . . . I'm just barely to the left of Aaron and Erik.

I was being sarcastic. It was my impression from what you wrote that Columbia allows noise with a permit. I, for one, think everyone should be quiet and not some allowed to make noise if it's sanctioned by the school.

Erik's a right-winger?

Hmm...might have to reconsider supporting his company.

Me?

I dunno. Erik's pretty emblematic of this company. I really don't want to support someone who's to the right of our already right-leaning 'center'.

Erik's pretty emblematic of this company.

You're right. Erik believes in building the best, most capable and enjoyable motorcycles available. He believes in keeping parts prices reasonable. He also believes in Customer Service. Those are some of the reasons I buy and own Buells.
If he supports a man or woman who I despise for public office, that's his right as an American.
If you buy a Harley, do you consider Willie G's political leanings? Is John Bloor a Liberal or a Conservative? Would his political stance stop you from buying a Triumph? Whose political leanings do you consider if you're buying a Honda?
When it comes to motorcycles, Erik believes in all the right things, and his Company reflects it.

"The liberals that you speak of, Court, will buy his deceptions hook, line and sinker."

They will, they will all become Holocaust- deniers, and avid would-be Israel destroyers, because some jerk gives a speech. It's because liberals hate our freedom ! They hate our gays too, I guess?
No wait, that was General Pace.
Now I'm confused.
