Court I posted this on the Quick Board and some thought I should seek your help/guidance:
Crashed my XB back on 7/13/07. The dealer got the bike about 7/20-7/21. I just got a call that the rear axle is on National Back Order until September 21. Doesnt that seem a little long of a wait? Its only a round piece of steel, I could have one made in less than a week (I know, I know, product liability) Is there a way to check on this? Or should I post in Courts Forum to see if he could help?

One of the guys posted an ebay sale on the Quick Board, and while Im thankful, I really dont want to buy an axle that may or may not be good.

Chuck

P.S.
Happy Birthday

Thanks for the birthday wishes AND for uncovering a "glitch" (I know . . . and I hate to use the word : ) )

Parts will be in the distribution center ready for shipment this Friday.

Apologies and thanks from the Elves.

Court you rock! THANK YOU for your help. I called the dealer and told him to check the distribution center on Friday, as the part should be ready to ship

Do all XB's share the same axle? My dealer continues to say that they have received everything required to fix my Uly except the axle. I was hoping to get it back by this weekend to make a trip. If all axles are the same, then it looks like my trip may be delayed.

Court, well, you tried, and I thank you again for all your help. I called the dealer and he said its still not at the distribution center, but he would see what he could do.
I then called Buell Customer Service. I wanted to see if they could check to see if the part was there and, for some unknown reason, the dealer might just be handing me a line. After 18 minutes on hold I had to give up. I guess Im at their mercy.

Unfortunately according to a search, rear axle part number G0321.02A8A is on backorder. Scheduled to be clear by 9/21/07. No dealers have in stock.

Double-unfortunate: All XBs seem to use the same rear axle, at least according to the "where used on any vehicle" tab in parts lookup. Same wheels, same axles, makes sense.

HOWEVER.

The earlier part number G0321.02A8 (no "A" suffix) shows in stock at many dealers, including one in WI (Suburban in Theinsville). I have NO IDEA why the axle was superseded. The following states show a dealer with the old style in stock:

CA CO FL IL IN KS OH TN WI

AGAIN. I do not know why the axle was superseded, but it could be anything from a redesign to a new vendor. Maybe a factory or service person could enlighten us on the reason for the update?

I do not recommend using the old part number without verifying first that it was a non-safety-related update to the -A part number. I do not see any service bulletins posted on H-Dnet...but that may just be my password not giving me full access to the latest info.
