Not sure if this would be better in KV. I have the Powerworks stunt cage. I want to mount it on my bike. I know I am way outside the warranty issue on this one. What I am looking for, Is will this set up affect the rubber mounting uniplanar design for the motor. AM I going to have vibration and handling issues ? Thanks | ||

OUCH still no response.... I am half damn tempted to mount it just for spite. Nothing else I do on the bike seems to be by the book anyways. | ||

The powers cage does negate the uni-planar design. It will cause vibrations to be transmitted to your frame, hands, and tingley bits. The guys at cycle connection have done a couple IIRC. I considered mounting one myself until I heard about the vibrations. I can understand how with your kind of riding it may be a good idea to protect your bike. | ||

I installed 4 at CycleConnection. The vibration really wasn't that bad. I figured it would be nasty, but at road speed, I never noticed a difference. I did use thicker rubber sheets and longer all-thread at the rear on a couple... Some notes, On a Uly or "wide" frame, overtightening the rear mounting will dent the side of the frame slightly. I never had this problem on 9's, and didn't install the first one on a Uly, so I don't know how tight he went, but it can happen. Your air scoop will probably not clear the cage without clearancing. There is a lip on the front of the scoop that can be removed, and cleaned up. That may be enough, may not. I had 2 go one way, 2 needed a notch. The lower plastic may need mods, too. I can't remember if I did, or just left them off.... Disconnect your battery during installation! It's too easy to ram the all-thread in to the battery cable @ the starter nut, or rub the battery wire insulation off. Check this carefully before reconnecting the Battery. I did have to modify the the upper mount on one for more clearance. Overall, I don't like the Powers design, and it seems their assembly jigging isn't real sharp, but it's not as bad as I initially thought, and I don't feel bad installing them. I disagree with the engineering, but it does it's job. Sometimes someone wants you to do stuff to their bike that's just plain dangerous, and it's hard to sleep well after that....The Powers cages and 12 o'clocks don't fall into this category. |
