Who bought the RS-1200 that has a VIN ending with 3038? It was black with gold lettering when it left Mukwonago.

I wandered, over the weekend, onto some interesting notes from when your bike was built.

I'm not sure I should tell you, but it was started 5 days before Christmas and finished the day after. . . the crate had to be modified to accept the rear tire.

: )

The good news is that when you see who built it you'll be comforted. . .

Drop me a note.

Mine's ...3010, and was white. Should I worry?

Steve:

I've scanned and will send you about 12 pages of information on your bike.

Trust me . . . when you see who built it, you'll be comforted.

It had a few, unique to it (most the Buells in that period did) quirks. The crate required modification to ship the bike due to the size of the rear tire.

I had one in that same color combination. That was the first year for single rotors on the front, inverted forks and the 5-speed.

Very cool bike.

You're going to find it (although the geometry is identical) rides much differently. I'll have to explain to you what to do with the plumb bob and your arse. . . remind me to tell you sometime.

: )

Hey Court, the list of "I owe you one because....." gets ever longer. I honestly don't know how you have a life and find the time to do all this sort of cool stuff. There'll be a couple of pictures on their way to you soon.

Many thanks.

Regards.

Steve.

PS- Brass Plumbob made when I was a 16 year old apprentice is polished ready and waiting.

Hmmm...Black and Gold RS...I can't say this is the one in question, but I dug up some pics from the 'old' days of Buell with (I believe a special) one Black and Gold RS.
Notice the 4 mirrors...

B&G RS

Lending some credence to the pics is the Red White and Blue RS in the background:

B&G RS 2

Note: The guy polishing the bike in the picture above may have been the individual who built the bike this thread is about.
He's a polishing fool...

B&G RS 3

Some other COOL pics of other (or maybe even the same) Black and Gold RS's:

B&G RS 4

B&G RS 5

B&G RS 6

I'm almost definitely sure this one taken at the old Hal's dealership just off Cleveland Ave. is not the same Black and Gold RS...

B&G RS 7

I also came across a few pics of Black and Gold RSS's, but I'm sure that nobody wants to see them...

The top most black/gold RS isn't mine (#3038) as Court mentioned above. That one has Marzocchi forks and dual disks. That makes it an 89 or 90 bike. 3038 is a 91. If that bottom black/gold RS is #3038 then, yes it is mine.

So what's with the handlebar-mounted mirrors? That could be factory? (Mine had them)

Hey Court I'm heading to NYC in two weeks (check your email)

Anyone who has ever spent significant time on an RS knows the "Buell Dip" . . .

Josh: e-mail received - I have an engineering final that night - Look forward to seeing you . . . can you take my test?

Anyone got a spare WP shock or the hydraulic line for the reservoir?
Mines leaking again, but my suspension guy can't find the line

Josh_ - any speed shop that sells Russell fittings should be able to make a line for you by crimping new ends onto a length of braided hose, just bring your old one for a template. There was also a guy on ebay selling a pair of WP shocks about a week ago.

Court - anything interesting on '95 S2 "signature series" #1365? Just brought it home last weekend (complete with packaged timer cover, laminated bike card and original owners' letter) and so far I'm loving it! Mainly I'm curious if there's a way to track if it was built originally with saddlebags and fairings. Given it has "left bag locks" and "right bag locks" (different keys, but all the same color - Red Snap), I suspect either: not original, or one replaced at some point.

So who would have the rear brake light sending unit? Mine's quit working and now leaks fluid (oops)

Turns out I might also need a flasher unit (that's the only thing not functioning after the recent work).

The good news is the RS has new tires, chain, brakes, suspension (rear is leaking again tho and needs a new line), battery, newly refurbished tank (with new lining), mirrors (no more bar ends), and S2 "Touring" bars and as of this morning runs great!

There were no S2-T's built in 1995. They were introduced in 1996.

So it looks like my bike has P&A saddlebags and lower fairings? I can live with that... : ) And it explains (boneheaded parts guy, I'm sure) why the bags were not ordered keyed to the ignition code. Grr...

I'm sure they are P&A . . . the roll out of the Touring Package was a big deal . . had it's own catalog, lots of whoopla and so forth.

The S-2 with the touring package is still one of the most pleasing Buells to ride. It was just plain a fun and enjoyable motorcycle to ride . . . I'm going to logging some serious miles on one soon and can't wait.

I had a box of the old S2-T catalogs some place but here is an example of one of the pieces of literature.

There are some great stories behind the S2-T and it's a shame that a couple of Erik's more radical ideas for touring bikes kinda got sidetracked with the development of some other platforms. There were some really off the wall and interesting ideas . you can find them if you sift through the patents.

An update - the turn signals work fine (go figure), but I do need a rear brake light sending unit and probably a rear master cylinder rebuild kit if anyone has part #s.

I need to dial in my rear suspension tho, low speed it wallow. *Sigh* I guess I'[ll have to ride it through twisties all day making minor adjustments ;)

Josh,
Must be an "old school" thing - I'm on my third rear brake light sending unit in 3 years on the S2.

Josh,
It just quits working, so I need to get a new one or it won't pass state inspection. It doesn't leak, though.
Jim,
You might be on to something. Your bikes get ridden year 'round.
