Not for nothing (NY talk) but there is only ONE RULE in this area.....anything, ANYTHING said about Arvel's wife must be complimentary. I stil owe here a HUGE flavor.....er, favor.

If Arvel is under 200# I'd be amazed.

Nor will you based on what I know of your wife's cooking.

If you are really in a bind for a shock, I have a new one in the box I can send you while you are waiting.

Just curious as to how Arvels wife (Blanca is her name by the way) got into this conversation? The only mention of wives I saw was about my lovely little vixen!! Yes, you gotta watch out for those innocent looking ones!!

Could someone please explain how to disassembly the 2001 shock. I built a copy the "Progressive Shock Tool". I can compress the shock, release the clip inside the can. But I cannot get the spring out. There is another clip which holes the spring in tension. This is as far as I can go.

I am in need of a heavier spring. I have found a source that lists the spring dimensions (L, I.D.) and the rates are in 50 lbs increments. Prices are 50 to 75 dollars each. If I could just get the spring out measure it.

Any help would be great.
Thanks

"It's an I idea......hehehehe...most of us lean right anyway"
" I think Court means that most of us are sort of bent already,or maybe around the bend,we do seem to have a strange slant on things, especially S-2 owners!!"

Hey,I resemble those remarks!
But seriously...on my 96 Parkway Blue S2T #000199.I made a new side stand 2" longer than stock. It did pick the bike up somewhat from its precarious perch, but I have not seen it parked next to another S2 to really see the difference it made.
What do you guys mean by the steel pin mod.?

Buell Shock Rebuild: Call Mikey Kruger at Cycle Zone at 785-234-3844. He'll be able to tell you anything about that shock you will ever need to know. (Ask him about how I taught him everything he knows about riding :)....NOT! <<He is a state MX Champion>>)

Steel Pin Mod: There was a factory modification that came out to deal with the wear, and subsequent possible tip over, in the stock S-2 stands. It involved the addition of a steel pin to take the heat off a part that was contributing to the problem. Aaron's fix works great. I simply park my bike in gear and use caution.

I'm now afraid of the local dealer. See "Rate your dealer..." Is there any advice I can get--I've managed to break the front left mounting bolt off in the head twice. The second bolt was a harder bolt, and lasted a much shorter time.

Hey Court, being as I'm from the same stompin grounds as the "Eric", that's Pittsburgh to those of you that have always wondered where the really fast guys come from, I feel maybe I can get away with a little gripe. In 1998 I ordered, sight unseen, the first 99 X-1 in our area. Many updates, filters, sensors, pipes, and a race kit later I was hooked for life. About a year ago I did the same for a Firebolt. Many, many, many calls and guarantees later they finally delivered it....wrong color! Long story short...we called HD gurus and were told that all are now built for USA dealers, next they'll start on Foreign dealers, THEN they'll look at individual dealers orders. What?! One year, dozens of assurances, they screw up the color, and now some guy at the end of the list gets to ride while I wait for who knows how long till they build a White one with Blue letters! Of course on top of this is the promo to ride Deals Gap with Eric. Ride it on what? Why the huge marketing push if you can't deliver the product? I actually purchased land near the "Gap" and intend to spend my retirement in the area. Twisties rule! But now I don't got no Firebolt and I are disgusted! Sooth my nerves, Sir Court, tell me they'll have the second Firebolts out to the(Florida)dealers before May 10th.....that's Myrtle Beach N.C. Bike week...and you'll be my hero! John S. Court,
Have you ever used the old Buell riding suit? The two tone gray job. I have a chance to pick one up at the right price. How did they do in the rain? Any pros or cons from you would help.
Thanks,

John:

I have never worn the gray Buell suit. I know some of the testers who did and heard few complaints. Most concerns centered around the "Michelin Man" look it provided.

I've got all Aerostich stuff and readily admit to suit fixation. It's pricey, but worth every penny.

If you have the deal pegged at the right price, you won't go wrong.

John,
I recently bought my wife the Grey Buell riding jacket. Its a very nice jacket and is well built. Her only complaint is the collar rubs on her neck more than she likes. But she is very sensitive to these kinda things. She rips all the tags out of her clothes cause she doesn't like them rubbing on her skin!!

PILK,

Wouldn't matter, he spelled it correctly, just used the wrong word.

You should see what can really pass through a spell checker. Nothing replaces reading a hardcopy, twice with a 15 minute separation between reads.

Only problem is, who has the time.

Oh nooooooo, from the above pics it looks like H-D has merged with Dunlop to buy out the Honda motor company, and Honda's will be rebadged as XB9R variants. The new Harley-Honda-Davidsons will be managed by Buell in East Troy.

Side note: I sure hope certain folks are awake now, not Buell related.
Stay safe everyone.

Likely a sore point of discussion here. Suffice to say Honda seized the opportunity one of the folks at Buell had staring them in the face and failed to take.

Todd:

No such worries.....if I do that trip again, particularly after riding the S-2 last weekend, I'll likely take the same, I mean the VERY SAME, S-2. The bike REFUSES to die.

With regards to the HONDA deal, well let's just say that luck has hit me again.

Court, + of course anyone else with thoughts on this.
Last week while talking to the service manager at my Dealer,I noticed a stack of Flat Rate manuals on a shelf behind his desk.I did'nt see what brand motorcycle they were for but it had to be H-D or,and Buell.I did'nt think at the time to talk to him about it but as a former Suzuki,Honda mechanic(way back in 70s-early 80s,so today may be different from back then)i have a few thoughts on possibly why SOME of the mechanics might not be doing their best work,as so many customers posting seem to experience.

Those manuals may be used by some shops to only try to get estimates on what $ to quote to the customer for certain jobs but if the dealership pays its mechanic by the flat rate manual,(imo) thats usually,in general, not good for customers or most mechanics.

The Suzuki dealer i worked for(after about 5 years)asked me if i wanted to try working flat rate + i never did after checking out the f.r.manuals.Example:total time allowed for replacing a "spun"(crank wheels slipping out of alignment)on a 1978 GS-1000, with updated crank,8 hours.I'd done at least 10 of them+never got to under 11 hours.Throw in a dirtier than normal bike+ i'd spend an extra hour just cleaning it before i could take it apart.Anyway, when the Suzuki ServiceRep. came i had a talk with him(these service reps were responsible for coming around about every 6 months or any time you called them with a mechanical or warrenty problem you werent sure how to deal with). This particular S.Rep just happened to be 1 of the guys who was timed by Suzuki to set their flat rates. He laughed at the times in the manuals, telling me that before timing was started, they cleaned the bike, layed out all tools they would need in advance, including air tools(which were even used instead of torque wrenches for tightening, these bikes would never be sold so the concern for perfection in assembly didnt exist)

Im sure flat rate can be good for some mechanics, like 1 in a large enough shop where he got assigned specific models or operations he could get faster at,but overall,If Buell shops are working through flat rate,it sure seems like a cause for hurried work, mechanics not wanting to take time to talk to owners,a possible reason for some bad workmanship+customer relations. If flat rate is being used(maybe its not on Buells)i would guess its a choice of each individual dealer + not Buell or H-D.

Before getting service work done, this might be something to ask your shops service manager.

Court, I thought I remembered reading a post of yours stating that you had come up with a minimum stock list for Buell parts that dealers should have. If you still have that list, would you e-mail a copy to me. Once again, we have a dealer with no Buell specific parts on hand. All I wanted was a new pair of grips for my new Xroads bars. Thanks.
