Coming from multiple computer forums and such, I am accustomed to the vbBulletin type of forums...I think these are more easily organizable and have better search utilities.
It is hard for me to figure out the best way to navigate BadWeb...

Not tryin at all to spam by posting links, but look at the layouts of www.overclock.net ; www.hardforum.com and see how each forum has subforums....Just my 2 cents...Didn't want it to go unridiculed, festering deeply within my subconcious for years to come.

LOL

BadWeb is the BEST online resource for all things Buell. (I would've never even considered purchasing my first Buell back in '04 if I hadn't lurked here for several months beforehand.) BadWeb is also the WORST layed-out, hardest-to-navigate discussion forum of any bike forum I frequent. I'm not sure why the admins are using this format when DiscusWare has a much cleaner format available, for example.

We can lay out BadWeB any way we want, make it look any way we like. Y'all want us to make it look like you want?

BadWeB has the same type layout as the VBulletin forums listed. For instance on the main topics page you have plenty of other topics pages listed, like the XBoard, and the new 1125R Superbike board; the Knowledge Vault is multi-layered to improve organization and ease of use.

The goofy archiving scheme is the only thing that really irritates me about Discus. Word is that the next major release, in work now for over a year, will address that issue. If it doesn't, we'll likely switch to VBulletin or something similar.

I like the way www.advrider.com has their board setup. They use VBulletin too.

That canned Discus template is boring and formal. I no likee. Do you really prefer it over what we have? Why?

I like the way it looks now aside from the archiving system. Different in every sense? : )

Seriously though, we're considering some serious changes, but we take these things slowly. Keep on with the suggestions, they are always welcome.

Hey Blake, not sure if its just me, but i seem to stop getting the email notices after a bit if i don't post again in the thread. I haven't figured out a pattern, as some threads i get more replies to than others before i stop getting notices.

You've only selected the "Replies to my posts" option for emailing of posts. Once your post falls into the archives of any thread, you'll cease receiving posts from it via email.

To continue receiving emailings of the posts to particular topics and/or subtopics, you may designate and choose them for email notification in your user profile. : )

Is there a way to run a search on a user's name to find the latest posts by them?

I was looking for recent posts by someone in particular, found they had logged in within the last week, but have been uniquely silent for the past several weeks. Just being curious (and nosey).

Dude.

In the BadWeB search utility, set the "Look in" option to "Names of authors", then set the "Messages posted within the last" field to your desired time interval counting back from the current time/date.

Now... To the hall of shame with you. joker

Hey, I didn't know you could search with both the upper and lower fields active.

I'll be over in the corner with my head hanging down in shame.....

Okay, that worked, found this:

Last posted on Friday, June 29, 2007

Last logged in July 20, 2007

Has well over 7,000 posts to date.

Either the person in question is off on another great adventure, or is very swamped with work duties, or has been granted a special set of keys and is off on a specifically great adventure that we may or may not be reading about soon in some printed or web format.

The disappearance and timing of other events caused me to begin to speculate a bit.

I'll go back to my corner now....

FB has dropped out of sight before, sometime for a couple years at a time. Fear not, he always returns fresh and with a renewed sense of adventure.

Perhaps we should do like banks and make frequent poster sit out for 15 day periods once a year.

Maybe I should go first . . . they've been trying to shake me loose from the Buell internet since 1994. . . . gads . . . Brankin, that's 13 years!

I just was speculating and imagining that he was off riding a lightweight water buffalo bike on a great and mighty meander and getting ready for an article submission for some un-named periodical with a November date to hit the news stands in late September or mid October.

(I guess my sleuthing needs to be a bit more obscure)(I think I go practice up on my esotericism.)

Mike - the idea of an "FBRAT" sequel HAS been floated ever so briefly over the FB&D dinner table on several occasions, if that's what you're hinting at, and i'd be up for it under certain conditions.

me 'n D have been buried in w*rk, both of the income-producing kind and house-renovation kind, leaving little energy or time to wax poetic here on BadWeb of late. : )

PS: thx to Ulywife for pointing me to this thread. : )

I understand all too well what with us living in a 100 year old house, a neverending project.
Just wanted to check that you were still well between the ditches on your ride of life. Plus I was suspecting that someone had given you the keys to an 1125R that you were out flogging and prepping an article for.

i don't see much chance of that happening, but it makes for a pleasant thought.

About as much chance as someone handing you the keys to a new Uly.

Glad you're all doing well over there.

Blake,

I've noticed lately that most of the BadWeB pages have a normal appearing Title at the top of the browser window beginning with "BadWeb: ".
It used to be a lot of pages began with something that included misplaced html font formatting tags (like this page).

Good job on making progress.
BadWeB Rocks!

Why don't threads that are archived pop back to the top of the list when replied to...
Its almost like they disappear and are never remembered even if someone posts..

i.e. I posted in a thread that was archived from like Aug. 10, 2007. The last post was a few weeks before mine, so I submit it and go back to the Old School Buell forum and don't see it. If many people don't use the Last Day's post feature ( I don't), how are they supposed to know if an archived thread are replied to?
