Honestly I have to say it took me a good month or so to find my way around the forum...

I know you guys are having problems with posts in the wrong place... I know this drives me nuts because I can't find crap doing a search sometimes..

I'm into VW's as well here are some sites I frequent...

There is a good way to deal with the board as it is (not sure it will change any time real soon).

Go to the Search page and give the "Messages since I last searched for new messages" thing a try. Use that for 2-3 days and I really doubt that you'll ever do it any other way. If it does not work for you, go back to doing it the hard way and floundering around in hopeless confusion. That is how most of us started out here.

To try it now, open a new browser, go to the BadWeb Topics page and try this:

1 - Click on the Search Board from the Topics page

2 - Go to Search by date, check the Registered Users button, underneath "Messages since I last searched for new messages"

3 - Fill in your user name name and password, leave "(All of BadWeb)" and everything else as it is. If you only read it once a week, change the "3" to "7" or higher, it is that simple.

4 - Click on Perform Search.

5 - The results will be every new post since the last time you did the search. The posts will be arranged by Topics and by the threads under each topic.

6 - You'll see the subjects and names of the posters for the results. Clicking on the topic takes you back to the first post in the thread, clicking on the first post will take you to the first unread post in that thread.

7 - As you pick you way through the results. Clicking on a result opens a new window, closing that window takes you back to the search result.

That's all there is to it. The effect is that you are seeing every single ongoing thread or conversation just where you last left off reading it. Just ignore the topics or threads that you are not interested in reading. They'll all be marked as read and you won't see them again.

A cookie is saved on the BadWeb server and the next time you do the search, you'll only see the new posts. Checking the "Don't remember this search" box will let you do a quick check for new replies to something without marking anything as read. That way you can read it all later if you want.

Sounds complicated but most of the regulars do it that way and it really lets topics and conversations flow nicely.

Once you've become with the various Topic pages you'll find it easy to go to various places and find info quickly.

The technical info here is pretty well topically categorized. That is what creates the impression of confusion I think. There are just so many different things. But that organization is what makes the BadWeb so valuable for finding answers.

I found it after I bought a Buell two years ago. It became an invaluable source of information for sorting out issues and working on the bike. There is probably nothing worth knowing about Buell motorcycles that is not already in the archives here and no question that cannot be answered quickly by the regular readers.

That Buell is gone now but this board is also a wonderful place to socialize, I'll be here until they make me leave.

So, Welcome to the BadWeb. We may have something more in common, I'm also an admirer of Mr. Browning's fine mechanisms and happen to own a couple of them.

The Board is laid out quiet logically - Never had a problem since the first days - Each section has a purpose and style - E. B. could not have done a better job - except perhaps the color. Buell should take hints from here on how to build theirs - lol
