Spike: No.

'Flyer: "Godless apolitical freaks"? Just because we don't care to discuss the subjects of politics or religion on a motorcycle board doesn't make any of us "Godless" or "apolitical". You want to discuss those things? There's a section on Sacborg for just that kind of discussion.

And "freaks"? What's up with that?

Then explain how that differs from what Snail is proposing. We have one thread asking for the removal of the profanity filter which would result in more profanity on the board. Then we have this thread asking to leave one's faith at church. How is that not seeking to increase the profanity and decrease the exposure to faith?

Spike,
perhaps you haven't seen the appropriate place for discussing faith and motorcycling? The thread is here

I guess, being a "Godless, apolitical freak" myself, I'd prefer not to have the attitude you're portraying rubbed in my face where I go to discuss motorcycles. Even if I'm perfectly capable of skimming past certain posters as well a certain posts.

The topic wasn't "leave religious discussions in church" it was "leave religion in church." If Paul's suggestion is only to remove faith-based discussions rather than personal faith I will recant. However, it seems that he wants an absence of faith entirely. No one here is asking you to 'play christian', why would you insist that others 'play agnostic'?

Also, the profanity suggestion was not to open a specific area of the board where it is allow, but to allow it in all areas of the board.

Not to put words in Paul's mouth, but my understanding is that he prefers not to have religious discussions on this site, but that he also would like to see the profanity filter removed.

I'll not argue one way or the other whether those preferences are logically consistent or not.

My personal preference is to avoid discussions of religion and politics on this board, and to leave the profanity filter in place.

"Godless apolitical freaks"

Gee, and all along I thought SadSac was the home of irresponsible, judgemental name-calling.

R/T,

Not discussing it is not living it. I pray for people in here all the time. I feel like I should be able to let them know that I am praying for them if I so desire. I therefore agree to disagree. I live among the free and can discuss anything anywhere at anytime lest I become ostracized from a particular group. Therefore, putting a limit on what I can discuss here will send me elsewhere even if I rarely choose to partake of discussions that would be offensive to some. I'd rather have the choice than to have my choices made for me by anybody.

The "freak" thing was just something catchy to tack on the end. It sounded better than "person." I could have said "homogenarian." That's my word for the folks that work at Whole Foods and most of the Starbucks crowd who like their society homogenized and watered down. That should not be confused with "homogetarian," which refers to gay people who don't eat meat. Or "Newdowers" a.k.a. members of the Michael Newdow cult.

If you guys really want to know what is wrong with this place, just take a look at some of your posts. You guys attach way too much emotional baggage to everything you write in here. It's as if this were all some of you have in life. Lighten up. Jesus loves you.

I thought Badweb was a place that didn't bag on other boards.

The fact that the discussion of whether or not to discuss religion leads to a disagreement should pretty much answer the question, right?
I'm not apolitical but I don't discuss it on the Internet. Same holds true for religion.
If I'm a g(G)odless heathen and I get offended by someone saying they are praying for me, has that person's freedom to express their conviction infringed upon my freedom to be free from their conviction?

..flyer

While I appreciate your concern for my godless apolitical freak self (Should I consider that one long compliemnt, or three separate ones?) I'd appreciate it even more if you didn't put any good words in for me (or bad ones, for that matter). I figure any final accounting I need do will pass or fail on what I say or do, not you. But thanx anyway.

and btw, BW may not "bag on other boards", but I'm only a carpetbagger--a GAF carpetbagger, at that--so I can bag away.

Yes please avoid deriding other discussion boards. After all, SacBORG is the offspring of BadWeB. Friggin' children.

We are talking about what we are allowed to talk about. This could be religion or any subject. I think subjects of discussion should be censored naturally. For example, we don't discuss horse breeding in here, but there is no rule that says we can't. It's just not discussed because there is no interest. Occasionally heated discussions arise over politics and religion. So what? If you ignore them, they go away.

BTW, I never called anyone a Godless, apolitical freak. I merely suggested they exist among us. Count yourself among them as you wish. Though I am mostly unworthy, I count myself among the Jesus freaks.

I could be a godless, apolitical, freak my own badself(Jesus, am I going to burn in hell for that?) But freedom of speech and non-censoring types shouldn't get all up in arms when someone else wants to be Godfearing, political and freak-less(?). Tit for tat and all that crap. But if it was all in one place (a place for everything and everything in it's place) you could either avoid it or enjoy it.

Reg, that's Freak with a capital F R E A K!
