Opinion: This is a motorcycle board, I resent having other peoples 'faith' and the associated notion that they are of some higher order than me thrown at me. If I feel the need for spirtual guidance there's three churches within ten miles of where I live. |

Basically agree. "Resent" may be a little strong for me, but I'd like to see us avoid the subject of religion. rt |

Ditto, and add politics to it. |

Let all have freedom to say what he believes or not. There should be no villification of those who do not believe, such as Paul, but certainly let the religious speech flow. OK, I'm passing the plate here in a minute...Paul?...Paul come back! I know you have money!! Where'd everybody go? |

My view is that within reason, folks should be free to express what they feel are positive aspects of their own personal philosophies, faith(s) or beliefs, not as proselytizing or any kind of "holier than thou" derisive agenda, but just in direct relation with whatever discussion or issue is at hand. We've had some good discussions about origins and faith and religion here on BadWeB. I don't recall any that weren't conducted cordially and with respect to all. I enjoyed them very much. My view is that no one has the right to think themselves of a higher order or better than anyone else currently on this earth. If I gave that impression to anyone, I was wrong to do so. Admitedly I recently suffered from foot in mouth syndrome on just that issue, my bad. It is important to me that people who I consider friends know who I am and what I am about. Hi, I am Blake and I am a sinner. No proselytizing? I agree! Bashing/insulting the beliefs/faiths of another? Totally uncool. I've witnessed and expeerienced that a number of times. } No politics? I agree with clarification that posting published news/information about the war, not opinion, is okay by me if done in the appropriate discussion thread. |

Freedom of speech for profanity but not religion? Seriously, think about it. And feedome to choose. Not knocking you Pablo, just saying that you have your legitimate preferences as well as we. But that's why an apple tastes like an apple and not an orange, and it does so without explaination or apology. Differences man... |

How can one talk about war without talking about politics? War is just failed foreign policy. |

True Jim, which is why we now ask that contributions to the war thread consist of hard news/information and not divisive political commentary/opinion. |

I for one, would like the gloves taken off in the political arena. "Merican's" have different ideas. My ideas and convistions have changed greatly in the last year. Let the commies have their say. If we don't like it, we'll shout back. If things get real nasty we can do what custodians have to do, but we can be even handed. I mean pics of Bush in a string bikini for instance are OFF LIMITS MAN! Down with corporate America and Homeland Security! I actually mean that one. |

Jon, we've been there and done that. That's why we decided to make political commentary off-limits in the first place. Once people got to shouting at each other over politics, it spilled over into other topics on the board and really strained the environment here. There are probably plenty of other places to argue that stuff. This place is supposed to be about bikes and having fun. rt |

I thought these were suggestions for a better Badweb.?? Limiting topics to those that suit just a few Godless apolitical freaks is not what I would consider "better." I think if one has a problem with those topics, one should be adult enough to ignore offending posts.

My vote is no on the politic and religious zones. There has to be better places to dwell on these items. I do not believe this lil' ol' place on the web was meant to be a one stop and shop for all. Mission creep is the bane of all. Lets try to keep the focus on the bikes, the rides, the places and people. We can still play together even if we disagree on the other issues. |

Good point. I feel like limiting topics to bikes, rides etc...(however unrealistic) would be great. I am just resigned to the fact that humans are posting here. |

... it just a few Godless apolitical freaks .. ... and that shows exactly why, as Loki so nicely wrote, we should try to focus on bikes ... Well, maybe we could make politics & religion threads in the "bickering" forum. Henrik |

So profanity and nudity are allowed and encouraged while personal faith and convictions are not? |

I think we should ban all disagreements. Only post something if you agree with other posters. That is the only way to be fair. Let's put all disagreeing posts in the bickering folder. To ban religious discussion is to force an agnostic agenda on everyone. (Message edited by lowflyer on June 16, 2006) |
