Apart from a spring clean and a little maintenance there is nothing wrong with the structure or the look of the BadWeB.

The way it is is exactly what sets it apart from every other bb I've ever come across. More importantly, it also gives the BadWeB warmth, which is a rare, perhaps even unique thing.

This is a place which Blake has moulded into something a little more special than your average bb thanks.

I'll take functionality over warmth. Might just be me. I guess most people have gotten used to it. Coming from every other forum on the net, this place confused the hell out of me. I suppose i'll have to get used to it as well

Like I said, it's the warmth that makes this place so welcoming. That's because it's a lot lot more than just a bb.

Witness most recently California based FMJ's land speed record attempt at Lake Gardiner, Australia. Several of our Australian BadWeBers turned out to help at the Oz end.

The BadWeB - Team Elves record breaking Buell at Bonneville saw BadWeBers from Australia, Netherlands, England, Denmark (via NYC), and all corners of the USA, gather in friendship on the salt flats, not just to cheer on, but to help out where and when possible. Records were broken, international kinship's were sealed.

The BadWeB is a lot more than functionality, as you will find if you stick around.

Loren-

That's one of the threads I was looking for, but I thought there was another post with a Drummer putting over 100hp to the wheel.

Thanks for your help.

Thought others might find the following informative/useful:

On 5/8/06, (ShaneTBolt) wrote:

How do I send private messages to someone?

I see their screen name in “user list” but the user list wont give me the option to click on that profile and send them a message. The only way I can think of is if they have posted on the forum, then I can click on their screen name in that particular forum.

Is there an easier way?

Dear Shane,

You are exactly correct in your observations. Try a search by author to find posts by the user you have in mind. If no posts exist by that author, then you are correct that you would have no way to bring up their profile in order to send a PM.

The system is configured this way to discourage exploitation of the PM utility by spammers and other malevolent types. If you have valid reason to want to send a PM to a user/users, I'd be happy to assist. Just send my the list of users you have in mind and your reason for wanting to PM them.

Cheers,

Blake

Along the lines of private messages, I got one earlier and did the former simple reply to it and it seems to have gone to: epost at badweatherbikers dot com

Is this "epost" an actual admin account of the sender, or is my reply message sitting in some limbo bucket someplace? In the past I thought I just did a simple reply, but maybe I didn't. Autopilot can be dangerous at times.

Mike,

What Josh said. : ) You gotta click on the email address shown or the hyperlink to reply by PM. If you just hit your email apps "reply" function, your email will be lost. Beware autopilot. I've done it myself a time or two if that makes you feel any better. Sorry if that makes you feel even sillier. It probable should. joker

Yep, figured that out once I read the included text. Oh well. Somewhere in etherspace there are gremlins reading.

Took me this long to figure out why when someone PM'd me and I sent them a nice reply in return that I never hear back !!! DUH !!

Blake or admin,

Could the Storm Fronts topic "SoCal Surf Music Scene" be moved as a sub-heading under Southern California?

I figure out how to do that when creating a topic.

TIA,
Sparky

make it so you can search or find posts via user name. Want to find a post by No_rice, but can't find it

Wahmbush - You can search by username by selecting "name of authors" in the "Look in" box.

It would be nice though if you could search by names of authors AND message text at the same time.

Can't a cookie based realtime profanity filter be instituted? Set a cookie on your work PC to have the server hide profanity (the default if no cookie is set) and set a cookie on your home / travel / porn downloading PC to allow it.

I think geeks are abound on this site....

Jim,
Next version will offer that exact feature among others. : ) So stay tuned. : )

Saro,
That would either make each page a dynamic page that gets created on the fly from the baseling text and formatting, thus adding significantly to the CPU workload, or it would require two complete versions of the board that must mirror each other except for the profanity. It's certainly possible, just too much for me to get into.

Blake-

I just noticed right before I read this post that the pages are static. A clean / dirty mirror would be heinous - and I would be burned at the stake (by MYSELF nontheless!) if I mentioned such a solution.

Adding significantly to CPU? Sure. Prohibitively? I doubt it. Too many projects, too little time.

Blake, it would be nice if short cut links could be created, to point to particular threads. In particular, I want www.badweatherbikers.com/c3 to point to the Carolina Corner Carvers group under storm fronts. That would make it much simpler to tell people how to find the group than trying to explain how to navigate down from the top.

That we can do. Give me an even easier shortcut and I'll implement it pronto.

We could do CCC and have it show up in the post as C3

Consider it done. : )

Thanks Blake!

www.badweatherbikers.com/ccc sounds good to me. Its easier to remember than c3 as well.
