I like trying to beat the filter. It keeps me aware of when I shouldn't swear, and where I might be permitted the odd infringement by twisting the odd letter or two.

After careful analyzation of the above statement, I have deduced that the operative word within is “odd”.

Not having to read over-used, explicit and unnecessary profanity on this board is very refreshing and I hope it continues. The creative alternatives
are more entertaining anyway.

"I like trying to beat the filter..."

There are few things in life as exhilerating as the joy of sneaking a naughty word into a post and then getting to see it displayed later.

Many of us left it behind when the joy started wearing thin as we got older and discovered things like motorcycles, beer, and sex. :>;)

Jack, my point about sneaking in the odd profanity was that in having \ forcing yourself to do so, the effort involved creates its own restrictions rather than waste your time working out what will pass.

Shit and bastard pass.

Shit is a word I use often enough on the board. It's a pretty common everyday word anyway. No big deal. The Queen has been heard to say "oh shit mummy".

Bastard can be used in a harsh manner that often moderates your use it. Bastardio is a gentler substitute I use more often than not.

The 'f' word is a no go, but it could be used in the way I described earlier in this thread, but since this thread started, it seems not anymore. There's a 'responsible' way to use it, and there's not. I fall into both categories, so I consider I don't abuse its use or overuse, so it's a fcuking pity some bastardio has filtered it out only now.

. See what I mean?

Rebuttal. If you want a family site why not try Disney.Com? Of course Mickey doesn't ride...

The status quo of Badweb is, it losing good members. Those of you who are content with that will remain happy.

Special Note: You were asked to limit your posts to two short posts. Keep it simple or I'll ask the Sgt.at Arms to delete you.

So a bike site that has a profanity filter is Disneyland...Uh, ok.

Badweb isn't losing members, nor is it losing members because of the swearing filter. Badweb had a small number of members leave because of a disagreement with management as you know. Since that departure, Badweb is not "losing good members". The good members have been posting answers to your threads here for the last few days.

As far as membership goes, I continue to see new members sign up. Ebb and flow...more coming in than going out.

Rocketman,

I don't understand your explanation. It reads to me like some kind of new age double talk or something. Please don't feel any need explain it any further.

When I joined BadWeb I agreed to some simple rules that make no mention of the use of profanity. In time I learned that it was preferred that profanity not be used and that a filter handled some of it. And I occasionally used words that some might find obscene but none that were filtered out.

I seldom post anything anywhere with gratuitious obscenities. I feel I can express myself adequately without using them.

Recent discussions have reminded me how unnecessary it is and I intend to never do it again. Ever.

I am not offended by obscenities. But to put it as plainly as I can, I find anyone's explanation or reason for insisting on doing after being asked not to, to be without merit.

I say this without anger and in the spirit of polite disagreement. It is okay if we disagree on this.

Why do we need profanity ?? I use it at times no doubt but it doesn't make a person sound anymore intelligent. And you can still get your point across without it.

Well I'm afraid I can't. At least not all of the time. I use foul language every other minute of the day, so not doing so on an internet forum is kind of fake not to do so.

Jack, I see your reason and don't disagree with it one bit. Sometimes though, your ears will get hurt, and I'm sorry for that, but I'm a simple peasant fellow from the gruff part of Yorkshire.

Sean, you’re so full of horse hockey it’s dripping out of your ears. You are the most articulate peasant I’ve ever seen, Yorkshire or elsewhere, and quite capable of expressing… oh, wait. It’s that tongue in the cheek thing again, right? Ah… you almost had me.

I think the creative foul language is way more fun, and unless you're retarded you still get the drift !!

Profanity filter is a good thing. Keeps the site "work safe.'

Keep it.
