Toprak will not disappoint. He is certainly the best in the world on a Superbike right now, and (although it is impossible to prove) probably very high on the list even if one takes the MotoGP paddock into account.

Just a thought but... at the rate Marc Marquez is going, his stellar career isn't going to be anywhere NEAR as long as Rossi's...

What was up with marquez. I didn’t hear why he didn’t race. Another crash?

I was looking forward to bagnaia swatting him like a fly again.

Training accident. He suffered a concussion and withdrew from Estoril. Apparently he is also now suffering from double vision so will not participate in either the final race in Valencia or the official post-season practice afterward.

The GOAT with the nine bikes on which he'd won world championships. Grazie, Vale!

He is the man. Came in before all of the electronics, back when you had to really know how to use your skills and not rely on your team engineer's programming skills (or lack thereof). Better times.

Even with electronics you still need rider skill. Electronics won't make you a champion.

Maybe not, but Casey Stoner was famous for telling his Ducati engineers to "turn all that shit off."

I wonder how many riders on today's grid could manage fast laps on that 500cc two stroke Rossi won his first premiere class championship on?

Put Marques and Gary McCoy on 500 cc two strokes and see who wins.

I would say none of the current grid could do it and if they tried there would be major carnage. The last guy who COULD pull it off, just retired. High sides have all but disappeared with modern electronics. Throttle control today is non-existent compared to the 500cc 2-stroke era. Also, use of the clutch is gone too. Launch control. Not to mention the aero-tech winglet stuff that makes the bike easier to ride as well...the list could go on.

Props to Stoner too. He was never a fan favorite because of his introverted personality, but damn that boy could ride the snot out of that Ducati when no one else could. Stoner-Rossi at Laguna Seca, who could forget that. Both at the peaks of their power, but Stoner was faster and the only way Rossi had a chance was to stay in front--no matter what. And he did with the final pass coming in the DIRTat the bottom of the corkscrew. I would say the best race of all time considering all the circumstances.

Thanks for the memories 46.

Stoner MIGHT'VE been the worst thing that could've happened to Ducati... pretty much the same thing Honda is experiencing now with Marquez.

His supernatural talent masked all the flaws in the Desmosedici of that era. Because he was winning with it, Ducati had no idea how BAD their bike was. But even Casey couldn't keep winning with the direction they were going and made the switch to Honda. Once Stoner was gone, everyone else did poorly on the Ducati, INCLUDING Rossi.

Same thing is now going on with Honda. Marquez's ability is masking just how BAD that bike is. With him not on the grid every other Honda rider is an "Also Ran" crashing nearly as often as finishing.

2022 should be an interesting year.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm pretty sure Erik was part of that project too... Sadly, it never got off the ground. The "Route 66" crew kept Harley in the dark ages for DECADES.

Odd not to see Valentino's name in the post season testing...

I noticed Dani Pedrosa was testing for KTM, but I didn't see Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) or Michele Pirro (Ducati) testing. Wonder why?

Just an observation, but one doesn't have a career in professional road racing as long as Valentino Rossi has when you crash as often as Marc Marquez. Eventually your body decides it's had enough.

That technique has won him eight world titles BUT you can "nearly crash" and "pull off a miraculous save" only so many times till your body gets older and your reflexes slow. Add to that the wear and tear caused by those times you don't QUITE pull off that miraculous save and, well... here we are.

Hopefully MM realizes exactly how important his vision is for the long term. Screw motorcycle racing. He will spend many more years as a non-racer and he will certainly not want double vision the rest of his life.

sight
By far the most important organs of sense are our eyes. We perceive up to 80% of all impressions by means of our sight. And if other senses such as taste or smell stop working, it's the eyes that best protect us from danger.

Yeh it will take quite an emotional toll. I went blind in one eye eight years ago. The doctors kept telling me to prepare myself because the other could go too. I really struggled. Fortunately I got to the right doctor and the good lord restored about 80% vision and my good eye has remained good.

I don’t know what I would have done if I lost my vision. I know what my intentions were had I lost my vision at the time. They involved my BMW S1000rr on a rural road that intersects with a railroad crossing and a coal train.

I’m not a MM fan but I hope his vision recovers. No one should should have to endure extreme vision problems.

I have glaucoma where one eye is affected much more than the other. Glaucoma is a disease where internal eye pressure can rise and cause permanent damage to the optic nerve. About 10-12 years ago I was having blurry vision and rainbow halos around lights at night. I saw my optomistrist once my eyes started to actually ache, which was my red flag. Optometrist sent me directly to a glaucoma specialist who would not let me leave his office until the eye drops/oral meds dropped my eye pressures to a safe range. IIIRC my pressure in my bad eye was in low 40s, whereas normal pressure is high teens. Take care of your vision.

I wonder what will be a good way to watch racing this season? I haven’t been buying anything. Just been watching the limited races nbc has been broadcasting via rabbit ears. I think I saw 4 races. Only got to see the highlights on YouTube for the rest. I think I’ll throw some coin at something this year so I can catch them all. Is there any one way to watch motogp and wsb?
