Hey; it's better than getting into a Bar fight the night before the 200 and getting his eye messed up.

I wonder; if he threw a salt shaker and a Duracell at a cop, would it be considered a salt and battery?

Did a Barney Fife of Daytona not receive the respect he desired, or did Danny go after a policeman intending harm?

Is the Daytona 200 being broadcast this year? I'm riding over to Daytona for the day, tomorrow. Have conflicting plans and can't make the race on Saturday.

He screwed up.

Drunk and disorderly or a bar fight is one thing.

Assaulting a cop is an entirely different strata.

Bad scene.

Eslick is out. Both the AMA and ASRA have suspended his license until the case is resolved. He will not be able to defend his title.

What I don't understand is how the AMA can take this kind of action based on accusation. He is "charged" not convicted of anything. Seems presumptive to suspend him based on what others claimed to have happened. He is the two time and defending champion, now he is being denied a fair chance to win again and being deprived of his livelihood. He is a profession racer, this is how he makes a living, and he has now missed out on a potential large payout. The AMA says "being a racer is a privilege", why would you not want to have one of the best in the game in your event. I guess if I were Eslick there would be some litigation if not just to recover lost potential income but to set a precedent that prevents anyone (including lady cops) from accusing any professional athlete of any wrong doing unless there is something solid to back it up.
What has become of "innocent until PROVEN guilty"? Seems the other way around now. Your automatically considered guilty until you can prove otherwise. I've felt for a long time the AMA has no business being a sanctioning body of pro racing. They're much better at lobbying in Washington and stopping states from passing helmet laws.

A person IS considered innocent until proven guilty. Those protections apply to a persons constitutional right to life. liberty, ect.

Those protections Do Not apply to civil agreements. The question was answered in the statement 'Being a racer is a privilege'. His license to compete is theirs to give, and theirs to take away. I like to think that if I had his level of skill, and the perks that go with it, I would be careful not to risk that by doing stuff that was stupid.

1) Rider put himself in a bad situation of his own volition by making bad decisions, so whatever happens to him is his own fault.

2) Maybe lady cop created a situation that didn't need to occur in the first place

3) Maybe lady cop was doing the right thing by dialing a rowdy situation down, and another cop came by with a bad attitude and put his nose where it didn't belong and created a big problem where there was only a little problem

4) Maybe a drunk 30+ year old travelling on business getting arrested shortly before an event he was being paid to participate in is reasonable grounds for suspension or firing, just based on impact to the company and brand

There was no "innocent" here. I'd argue that if you are drunk or high in public, and things go out of control, its hard to argue you don't carry some of the responsibility.

1 and 4 are likely true. 2 and 3 may be true also, but 1 and 4 are enough.

He is a friendly guy and put on a good show and was nice to my kids when I met him. I don't bear him any ill will. But it was why Geoff was the factory rider. It's important to grow up, even if you want to race motorcycles for a living.

Bingo.

The day of the "bad boy" is quickly going away.

In today's age of instant communication of news, good and bad, and the increasing gravity ascribed the visuals through things like Facebook, Instagram and so forth . . . . you gotta "grow up to show up".

I see it in students . . . I see it if people texting during job interviews and I see it in folks who labor under the misconception that common manners and decorum can be downloaded in an app.

It's a new . . . much quicker and more transparent . . . world out there. If I am paying you big bucks to "represent" my brand, name and trademark . . . there is no 2nd chance.

Simple.

We all see things filtered based on experiences, but IMO, mountains out of molehills.

Routine plea deals with prosecutors that hand out cookie cutter X, Y, and Z sentencing often negotiated for 30 seconds. Check check and check...a win-win deal. Whether he did it or not, it's not important. :-)

But anything to tarnish reputations and folks get dropped. That's the way it often is, right or not.
