Part what I love about this sport is its equal parts rider skill, rider aggression, equipment and luck. Canepa set a personal best this morning of 1:43.579 (ON RACE TIRES, QT's are good for another 1-1.5 sec's (not sure if its with the ZTL or not)) a full 3 seconds ahead of Pegram who is running right at the times (slightly slower) set by May and Yates back in September. The field is definitely running at race pace with everyone pretty much lapping where and as quick as they did for the Spanish round last year.

Everyone has their idea of what is fast or more importantly too fast for a given corner, or rate of acceleration. Even at this level we tend to let that be the limiting factor more often than the capabilities of the machine. Canepa is right where he was on the Ducati and still learning a new bike and brakes. Pegram is right where Yates and May were which is about were they were in the AMA as well.

3 seconds a quicker a lap last year would really have turned EBR season from an embarrassing to respectable. But then they might not have collected the consistent level of development data they needed. Can't wait for the season to start.

actually, faccani and sofuoglu are riding supersport 600ccm machines and kenny noyes is testing a kawasaki-akira-prototype for the motogp. so, they're actually at the bottom of the table with more than 2.5 secs difference to guigliano on the ducati, who has shocked the others with a 1:40, which is remarkable. i guess, we will see a 1:39 from him today...

and haslam's transponder wasn't working properly, he put a 278 km/h in the tarmac with the aprilia yesterday. so, the difference is 25 km/h to the ebr (which is the same as last year). the vmax you can see on the live-table is from the last lap not overall.

pegram is 6 seconds behind, that wasn't a good idea...

apart from all this...does anybody know the production and sales numbers from the 1190rx (they need to have 1000 produced by the end of this year)?

It was suggested on a thread in the EBR sub-forum that the production quota has been met (for the 2014 model year), with little regard for how many bikes they have actually sold. Apparently Hero was willing to invest in building a LOT of RX's which may sit in dealer's show rooms for a year or two just so they can compete in WSBK.

Not picking a fight, but
"they're actually at the bottom of the table with more than 2.5 secs difference to guigliano on the ducati, who has shocked the others with a 1:40, which is remarkable. i guess, we will see a 1:39 from him today...

Not really a shock on Guigliano, he ran a 1:140.533 best lap there in Sept. 2.5 sec's per lap off a time that is just 4.5 tenths off the TRACK RECORD is not exactly slow. I'll take 2.5 secs back per lap over a 17 lap race for appearing in both superpoles, a chance at a mid pack start, to finish with a 42 second gap and a point or two each race vs 3.5-5 seconds per lap back and getting lapped by the leaders near race end as they are battling for the win which was the EBR narrative far to often last year.

I don't think anyone is expects a podium this year. Let's make up the ground we lost last year, score some points, make some superpoles, gets some press, don't blow up engines... so we can attract an alien capable of running at the front.

Based on the times so far everyone is running their race pace.

pegram is 6 seconds behind, that wasn't a good idea...

Yes there are better on track options but he's the perfect man to bring all the off track stuff HERO EBR so desperately needs. He gets a second per lap grace for each of the following:
*Wearing Rider/manager hat ( for the same money)
*Bringing his own experienced with the bike crew ( low learning curve, and they are cheap)
*Bringing his own sponsors to the team (FREE Money!)
*Bringing his own reality TV show (FREE TV coverage)

So subtract four seconds per lap from his time and its like he's as quick as Canepa. LOL

It IS the Buell(by extension EBR) Racing- Circuit/Road Racing - World Superbike- thread so I would expect since EBR is in WSBk that a lot ( not all) of the conversation would focus around the EBR team.

Over on the R1 forum there is post after post about why the new R1 is not being campaigned in WSBk this year when they could be developing blah, blah, why wait until you can win, if racing is the best development blah blah. All Yama talk and they don't even race in WSBk. That's what happens in these focused groups.

Once the season starts there'll be much more diverse conversation as my man Johnny Rea shows the boys the quick way round each track.

Very happy about today's test! 3 seconds faster than last year and only 1.9 seconds from the first! Thanks to my team for the hard work during these days! This EBR is working good!

Today was the first time an EBR lapped faster than the TOP 600cc WSS machine of Kenan Sofouoglou.... THANKS Niccolo ! ! !

Last year in every session May and Yates were slower than the top 600cc WSS machine.

Now THIS is a great improvement ! More improvements to come I think.

Was today's lap times with ZTL or with 2-discs braking system ? Any info on this ??

I think they means 3 seconds faster than the best EBR times from last year, and 1.9 seconds off the winning times from last season.

If this test is any indication we will see bikes with LESS modification and presumably less power, putting down even faster lap records. Ducati has their mojo back.

biEN Sports still has the broadcast contract for WSBk in the United States so you will have to consult with your local cable/sat tv provider for specific channel numbers. I'm not sure about overseas. Our good friend Rocket UK might know.

Neutrum...... Usually Sofouoglou is one of the fastest 600cc WSS riders .....

For the first time in WSBK , the EBR looks like it belongs in WSBK .... That is great ! !

We have to look at the positives, and there are many positives at this moment....

Classax ...... last year we were tipped that the 2015 rules will work in Ducati's favour.... but Jerez is a technical track that is good for the 2cylinder bikes.....too early to draw conclusions I think...

"Further back, Erik Buell Racing continues to make progress in the hands of Niccolo Canepa. Though the Italian was only 15th fastest, his time was just four tenths shy of his best lap on a Ducati last year and three seconds better than his predecessors on the bike." http://www.crash.net/wsbk/news/213197/1/giugliano- sets-fierce-ducati-pace-in-testing.html

"Team Hero EBR’s new signing Niccolò Canepa was able to significantly improve his lap times as he put his experience and speed to good use developing his 1190RX.
The bike’s innovative single-disc set-up suited the Southern Spanish track, but he feels that a more conventional braking system will favour circuits with harder braking areas." http://www.speedcafe.com/2015/01/28/giugliano-sets -bar-world-superbike-tests/

""At the moment we are evaluating both the single disc and dual brake system. I feel that some tracks will suit the single disc and some tracks will suit the dual. What is so interesting is that the dual system is the absolute top of the line 10,000 Euro WSBK system, while the EBR single disc and caliper we use is basically stock. Both Nick and I are really impressed at how good the single ISO system is for a stock brake and also are really intrigued by the advantages it has in deep trail braking. I’m sure we can improve them a lot with more development, so we shall see what happens as the season pans out." http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/giugliano-on-t op-at-conclusion-of-world-superbike-testing-at-jer ez/

Wise words from Larry

Question : What is the "single ISO system - a stock brake" that Larry mentions ? Is it the ZTL ? Why Larry Pegramused the name ISO ? Is the WSBK caliper a Nissin caliper like the one on the stock bike ??

I love the side by side comparison that are taking place.

Anyone else feel like there is a lot less fluff in the press releases so far this year. I saw that "EBR is delighted" tag and thought to myself "here we go again", but both Larry and Nic have made some really meat and potatoes type statements already, where as we were 3/4 of the way through the season before we were allowed to get this level of detail out of Yates and May. Just one more thing that has me looking forward to this season.

^ I noticed that terminology; I bet you're correct. Maybe "ISO" is EBR's name for it since HD apparently still owns the copyright for "ZTL"?

Classax , I also like the comparison between the systems.

OK ...ISO from now on from me....

I thought that for WSBK they used a caliper from BREMBO that was machined from a billet alluminium block.....while for the stock 1190RX the caliper is from NISSIN and it is from cast aluminium ..... correct ?
