What if it was based based on conversations with the BSBK EBR racer and EBR development test rider?

"I think the chassis is fine and geometry may well prove to be wonderful in WSBK"

how do you always come to conclusions like these? this is based on what?

a former aprilia race-director (jan wittenveen) does observe and comment on the wsbk, he said that they obviously can't produce enough sidegrip on the rear tire with this geometry and the way, the suspension is working with the swingarm.

Based on comments from the Geoff and Aaron, based on comments from folks at EBR, based on comments from Lary Pegram. If the guys riding it think it has potential chassis wise, who am I to disagree. Based on the fact that the winning Aprilia uses inserts in both swing arm and triples to achieve almost the exact rake, trail and swing arm angles as the fixed position EBR. So basically based on the math.

Based on all the steeply leaned over wheelie photos I've seen for the EBRs in WSBK, and the fact that based on the section times corner speeds don't seem to be an issue, rear side grip is NOT the problem, better TC may be, but not rear side grip. Gearing yes, out right power yes, confidence in the brakes yes, rear side grip... not hardly.

The XB, 1125,1190 chassis linkless rear shock works well on rougher tracks, on the way smoother tracks of WSBK its not of any advantage over other set ups, nor is the ultra low unpsrung weight of the ZTL. Hey, they lived and learned.

reading your comments of what is good and obviously not so good,

I've said nothing that most of the guys on this board haven't either predicted or also said already. We can all see and hear what is and isn't working for them.

you should be the next race-director of the ebr-factory-team next year.

I applied for a gig as an umbrella dude on this thread and couldn't even score that. LOL

It wouldn't surprise me if the Italians weren't back next year, which would be a sad waste of talent and hard gained experience. EBR needs to return to WSBK next year to vindicate themselves. Not doing so will be only make what was a "learning" year more of a fiasco.

and now it's clear, that ducati will race the panigale next year with 1299ccm. what's there to gain for ebr? nothing

My turn to ask based on WHAT?

OK, Ducati is apparently building a 1299, but as of right now, it's not legal for WSBK, correct?

Perhaps just a figment of google translate, as I don't speak German, but that interview with Bardi sure sounds like a bunch of poor excuses and blame shifting, even if just lightly hinted at. I'm making excuses for no one here, as my opinion is bad management all the way around from the start. But I'm just an internet lurker who knows almost nothing of these things.

I sure do hope next year sees something a lot more positive for EBR!

Bardi is running the Aprilia MotoGP team next year (on what qualities did he get that job!), so there will certainly be some changes at least in the EBR setup if they return to WSB in 2015.

So far this morning in free practice May is nearly a full 3 seconds out of superpole and Yates is the usual 2 seconds behind that. Looks like its going to take a solid 1:40 flat to make it into the Top 20. Here's hoping they find a few seconds tomorrow...

Seems like just another weekend in a miserable season, but there are some interesting comments from Geoff May in the team's press release from this morning:

quote:

FP1 was for the most part without incident with both Geoff May and Aaron Yates able to make big strides forward in the afternoon’s FP2, Geoff ending the session 24th and Aaron 27th.

Both riders will now regroup overnight and aim to improve still further in the final FP3 session tomorrow morning, hoping to make it into Tissot-Superpole for the first time this year.

Geoff May: “The track isn’t the easiest to learn but overall we made good progress today. We have a new spec engine from EBR in the USA and I have Mike Fitzgerald who was my Crew Chief in AMA with me this weekend too, to help my find my old feeling with the bike. The new engine has a little bit more HP throughout the range and after today I am confident we can further improve tomorrow.”

Aaron Yates: “It’s an interesting circuit but it’s enjoyable to ride. We made some minor changes between sessions and improved our time and I am confident that we will improve again in FP3 tomorrow. The whole team is working well and continues to push so thanks to them for all their efforts.”

Looks like more of the same old same old from team Hero, still unable to crack into the top 20. Last round may be their last hope for super pole. Based on the gap I don't see points in the cards for this round.

If Geoff's using another new engine, I'd think that means he's starting from the pits again anyway. Maybe by some miracle they were saving it for the race.

I watched the live time because old people can't sleep anyway. It looked like a solid performance and different than previous races. I don't know how the gap compares, but both of them made steady progress and made it through all four free practices. Pits were brief and resulted in dropped times when they went back out. Perhaps having Mike there actually did make a difference in terms of he crews listening to the riders.

I'd wager they will continue to improve and . . . .by the season's end they'll be in a position to evaluate what went right and what needs worked on.

Geoff . . . make no mistake . . is a very talented and analytical rider in addition to a seriously smart guy.

I'm excited about next year.

Has EBR qualified for super pole yet? I was wondering how the bike runs on qualifying tires. Can you use a qualifier in free practice to get into Super pole? Or are the tires only allocated for super pole?

Races are over; it's hard to decipher exactly what happened from the summaries on the internet.

Apparently there was rain during the warm up session this morning before the first race and several riders crashed. Geoff is not listed with a time for this session, so I'm wondering if he was one of them.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

Race 1 was called after 19 laps due to rain. Geoff finished 18th which I believe would equal his best finish of the season. Aaron was DNF with 12 laps completed.

Race 2 was also called after 19 laps due to rain, but apparently only 13 riders out of 26 starters completed the race. ??? Neither Geoff nor Aaron were among them. With only half the starters completing the race, that implies either massive crashes, very heavy rain or both, but http://www.worldsbk.com gives no details.

Goeff crashed during warm ups. He actually ran well despite two pitlane starts. Yates crashed out of 1 and both crashed out of race 2.

Next round is the last point scoring hope before next year.

18th from the pits after a crash would seem to be a more-than-decent performance. Good for Geoff.

If half the field crashed out of race 2, it sure seems like they should have called earlier.

Thinking about this weekend, this does give a glimmer of hope for EBR for the end of the season. Geoff started 2 races this weekend with a new engine, which means he's satisfied the penalty for using a new engine and he can start from the grid at the next race. New engine and a crew chief that understands EBR's and listens to his riders should give them a fighting chance. They've got almost a month until the next race to put anything they learned this weekend into practice.

Now, where is Hybridmomentpass to throw a bucket of water on my tiny spark of hope?

Just my .02: don't really care. If EBR comes back to MotoAmerica, fine with me. More chances to see them race. And racing on tracks not suited to them against giant budgets, with personnel who have less than informed decisions is only likely to be a money pit.

The funny thing about the article to me, and I have to preface this by saying that they are the National Enquirer of MC mags, is that they act as if they are surprised that Erik was well received in the U.S. Really? Of course he is. He raced here, built bikes here, and is out there in the crowd talking to people, taking pictures and acting like a leader in the industry.

Ya kinda gotta know Dean Adams . . . . and his writing.

He's been gnawing at the fringes for years and has evolved to kind of the Lindsay Lohan of moto-journalism . . kinda of a Rodent Dangerfield thing . . he just can't get no respect.

Dean Adams has had a hard on towards anything related to Erik and his motorcycles since the '90s that I know of.

Still- you get an inkling that the author might finally be getting it about people's enthusiasm for Erik Buell. He seems astounded at the reception Erik got at Laguna Seca but at least he acknowledges it, which is a considerable improvement over anything he's written about Buell up to now.

The Italians SHOULD be looking for a new marque because they should be fired! Let's see, could not build engines right, and worst of all not listening to riders on set up, HERO did not get much for the Italian WSBK experience dollars.

MotoAmerica would be a better platform for EBR, but WSBK is really especially with the move toward increased parity the place to be. I'm inclined to think they will be back.
