I'm really disappointed. We're grounded with a bad rpm sensor that won't get delivered until Monday. Whole weekend is shot! Guess I'm going to have watch on tv. You guy who are the like Larry keep it coming with first hand play by play.

Comeon, man! If that was a Buell you'd be out there with bailing wire, electrical tape, and a RPM sensor from a 1977 Maverick that was "close" to being the correct part!

Sorry you can't make it- that does have to suck worse than having no chance of seeing it at all.

Lol I would but there's this little organization called the FAA that requires an A&P other than myself to sign off on such things.

They didn't make superpole but they are close enough to make a race of it.

I see that you are a pilot also. I got my ticket in 1956 but gave it up because of the expense about 10 years ago. I still hang out at the airport and tell lies though.

If you are ever up toward Oklahoma City way stop at Sundance Airport HSD. The coffee is free and the gas is cheap and the advise that you get from the gathering that we call the table of knowledge is worth exactly what you pay for it. I can be found there most mornings and late afternoons.

To add to what Hugh said, Aaron drafted through the trap at 152, but 151 by himself on the radar gun next lap.

I enjoyed reading this . . .

quote:

The folks at EBR are great. They are friendly, excited about their product, and motivated to continue to make a great bike that is competitive at every level. Interestingly, they don't forget those of us they meet and some of them either read or post on badweb. Erik is here and listening to him talk, he is NOT asleep at the wheel. He clearly knows all the ups and downs and is aware of the difficulties and, sounds like, what is causing them.

Nearly word for word what I've been saying through all of this . . . .

finally!

today’s back-of-the-pack Q times from Laguna Seca SuperBike dual series:

22. Geoff MAY, USA (EBR 1190RX SBK), 1:26.087
------8. [AMA Pro] Cory WEST, USA (EBR 1190RS), 1:26.238------
23. Larry PEGRAM, USA (EBR 1190RX wild card), 1:26.302
24. Gabor RIZMAYER, Hungary (BMW S1000RR), 1:26.506
25. Aaron YATES, USA (EBR 1190RX SBK), 1:26.999
26. Chris ULRICH, USA (Honda CBR1000RR), 1:27.169

these times display that there are 3 ways of getting to the same place for 3 EBR configurations [+ SBK Ulrich is about where he is in AMA Pro SB]

Apparently Geoff's got a special new paint scheme for tomorrow's races. Just posted to his FB page:

geoff

I'm just hoping he's been deliberately conserving that "improved" engine all weekend and he's still got something left in it he hasn't shown yet.

OK, as a guy who owns and races an 1190RS, I just do not see how that pipe is not causing setup issues. I wish I could see it from more angles.

Good Luck EBR.

Yea, it is definitely not conducive to mass centralization. The pipe is a bit of a mystery. Both EBR's ran the normal under-engine exhaust for the first two races, then showed up with this monstrosity at Assen. I believe Matt stated that Asssen had stricter noise limits than the rest of the tracks so it made sense they'd have to use it. However, they've stuck with the BAM for all subsequent races. I seem to recall at least one post that implied the officials started making them use this pipe because the stock bike uses a side-mounted pipe.

Does anybody know the real story on it?

Rob- here are a few more photos from different angles I found around the net:

Kind of makes us moaners sound ridiculous when you consider the EBR is only 5 seconds off the Moto GP lap record!

Channel surfing got me Laguna on channel 392 (dish network), not sure what all they'll end up showing, but it looks like qualifying right now for superpole.

Larry's tank is on the left side behind the seat on the outside, at least looks like fuel.

Crowd: parking lots full, no one in the stands though, everybody wandering around and not sitting.

Oh I would love to, but it would have to be Moto GP if ever I make it to Laguna as a spectator. And hopefully during the Rossi era, as the clock ticks away, lol.

Following the rulebook, exhaust must be in stock position.

Let's hope for great races, now!

Yeah, as Jens pointed out, the exhaust must follow the stock outline, so this must have been added for rule compliance.
If anybody has any similar pics from last year, I would bet that they will show that the bikes are set up much higher, perhaps to accommodate the pipe. I know that these bike are running much higher than I run mine. I don't know if this is effecting times, but I would never run mine that high. But then, maybe I should!

Good luck EBR!

Rob, don't forget the underseat auxiliary fuel tank they're running, too. In an interview, Mark Miller said the Splitlath-Redmond teams had to run a very different suspension setup at IOM with the tank than they ran previously at Macau without it.

Live timing said #72 pulled off with a "technical problem" between turns 5 & 6 with 3 laps to go. Aaron apparently broke with 10 laps to go.

Geoff improved several positions and finished the race.
