It's a ways off but what do you see happening now that the big bikes will be back for the 200 and seemingly same rules as WSBK? Think some of those BSB or WSBK guys are gonna show up and blow everyone away? Thoughts? | ||

Unless DMG bring the AMA rules into line with the WSB rules then it wouldn't be worth the teams going to the expense of changing their bikes completely for just one race. Also simply Daytona doesn't have the kudos or prestige that it once had. Back in the early 70's it was one of the THE races that riders wanted to win, so you'd get the likes of Hailwood, Agostini, Saarinen, Sheene all wanting to win and factory GP teams supporting them to do it. Now you get very few foreign riders at Daytona and no factory teams at all. It gets almost no coverage outside the US race scene either, which doesn't help. Next years daytona 200 will just be a longer version of this years Daytona Superbike race, with probably the same result. | ||

Maybe what the Daytona organisers need to do is to try and get the ciruit included on the WSb calendar to host a round of the series? It would be very hard to meet safety standards and wrest a round away from either COTA or Laguna I think, but you never know...... | ||

hey Trojan, why not BSB? Brit racers & fans are used to coming to Daytona - & Assen - so why not a Match Race or a BSB round? | ||

LONGEVITY of the new EBR 1190RX may be Erik's last laugh at the in line fours.  next year. The swept length and piston speeds of the 1000cc fours is a different set of mass acceleration/deceleration than the current IL4 600cc (as might be of some proof by the Eslick 3 cyl Triumph 675 win). The endurance is probably a greater percentage over such a long haul for bigger displacements. Whatever the case, the whole nature of the beasts will need significant tweeking.... all new to the current leaders. Also the tire changes in the pits will become crucially important, as is fueling and quick access to serviceability areas. This year EBR is playing AMA checkers compared to next year's AMA Daytona chess tournament. Erik is a most cagey dude and will be fun to watch. | ||

I really don't see any big reliability problems for the IL4's in a 200 mile race any longer (no more than for the twins anyway). Tyre changing may add some jepardy to the equation, but that is the same for everyone (and you can bet that the bigger teams will be super slick at that too). At the end of the day it will just be the same race with bigger displacement bikes. I can't see anyone challenging Yamaha next year. Lastly....if you are 3 or 4 seconds off the front in a sprint race then that equates to a much bigger distance at 200 miles  why not BSB? Brit racers & fans are used to coming to Daytona - & Assen - so why not a Match Race or a BSB round? That would be a cool concept, although an unlikely one. Unless Jonathan Palmer manages to wrest control of the AMA races from DMG I can't see it happening. Safety would be an issue I think for BSB riders (They refused to ride at Rockingham in the UK which is the closest thing we have to Daytona) as there is no run off on the banking areas. never say never though  |
