Lucky #7. He will always be remembered/revered in British racing fans (of a certain age) memories!

Being that everyone is new to the track I can understand bike setup.... how to manage tires there and just learning the fastest lines and brake points will slow all of them down.

Ummm no not exactly. The track is greasy so the top riders are not taking big chances at a track they don't know. They cannot get real good feed back from the bikes because the track is fresh and greasy lines...(No rubber in the lines). So they are just learning the track and going balls out isn't learning it. The last test Jerez is more important and why I'd imagine Yamaha is leaving early on this test because in a week they test in a place where they get more valuable feedback from rider and motorcycle.

Lorenzo stated that the track is more "stop/start" which suits the Honda better than the Yamaha which works best on a flowing track and can spend more time on the side of the tire.

Honda still has the acceleration advantage over the Yamaha (for now, anyway).

Marquez is young. His idea of testing is just to ride as fast as possible for as long as possible because he can. Marc's team need to get him to focus on testing rather than just riding. More experienced riders will be looking at testing specific components or areas that need to be improved such as electronics and tyres etc.

Marquez is certainly very very fast, but we have seen in previous seasons (both 125 and Moto2) that he crashes a lot and takes huge risks that often involve other riders getting hurt!. I hope he can tame his excuberance and still be quick, but I expect him to fall off quite a lot in the first half of the season.

The fact that Lorenzo wass almost as far back from the Hondas as Rossi on day one would suggest that Yamaha and Honda have entirely different testing strategies in place, rather than any one rider being 'slow'.

Once the season starts for real we'll see just how competitive Rossi is on the Yamaha. Until then I wouldn't draw any rash conclusions based on limited testing ; )

The other question to ask yourself... Lorenzo and Rossi are both "old hands" at this. Do you really think they want to show all their cards this early in the game?

A nice analysis of Marquez that makes some not-so-subtle digs at the moaner who USED to occupy that side of the Repsol garage:

I guess the whiny little moaner just can't help but spew venom at Rossi at every opportunity. I suppose he's forgotten that every year he won less and less races on the Ducati and there is no evidence he would've done any better had he stayed.

I'm glad he's gone, and I wish the motorcycling press would just IGNORE him till he goes away. Marquez looks like a class act. Too bad he rides for Honda, or I might like him. ; )

Funny Jaime.... Some of Stoner's reasons for exiting the Ducati camp is because things didn't come down the pipeline fast enough from Ducati or not at all. Now hes saying Rossi needed to adapt to the Ducati not make the Ducati work for him.lol If thats the case then why should have Ducati fixed anything at all while Stoner was there?? He should of just adapted!!! The guy contradicts himself time and time again.

I think Stoner misses the point that if a factory signs a star rider it is the factory's job to supply a bike that he can ride fast. It should NOT be up to the rider tohave to change a riding style that has won 9 world championships!

If Ducati can't build a bike that'normal' riders can win on then are doing something very very wrong. It is already clear that Ben Spies and Dovi willnot be the sticking plaster that Ducati need, yet new team bos still seems to think they can be on the podium using the current chassis/engine configuration. Deluded........

As for Stoner.........the picture sums it up

Absolutely, so why did Stoner make so many excuses over the years at Ducati! It was always somebody elses fault when anything went wrong, no matter what happened. He left Ducati becaaue he didn't get what he wanted and was underappreciated, then left Honda because everyone (fans and media) was getting at him and he was not appreciated there either....ahh diddums : (

I hope he does well in car racing, because I for one really don't him to have an excuse to come back into MotoGP : )
Compared to Stoner Marquez is a breath fo fresh air in the paddock and I'm sure the atmosphere at Honda is much more relaxed and pleasant now too.

I'm kinda hoping he DOES come back as a wild card at Phillip Island, just so Marquez can humiliate him on his home track. Wouldn't that be GREAT??

But then, of course, he'd say that he hasn't been on a motorcycle in over a year, he was out of practice, his leathers were too tight, Honda gave him a second-class bike, etc. etc. etc...

he was under appreciated. no one has been able to win ducati like Stoner. Becuase of him people paid notice to Ducati. When people win they pay attention. When you loose no one cares.
Too bad Rossi could not even get ONE win.
All those champioships where before Stoner joined Moto GP : )
