I'm sad too. The only race I could go to was Woodburn, it was kind of a highlight to my racing year. The bike count has been down for the last 4 of 5 years. Still lots of nitro bikes but the sportsman classes were way off. I guess it is back to bracket racing with the local boys.

im hoping that someone steps up and buys the org and starts it back up

the potential is there
Craig wouldnt listen to racers and only did racers that he KNEW would make money.
He wouldnt try new things out (like single day, nonpoints, regional races like in the past that were hits) or new venues to advertise (like The Smokeout at Rockingham that draws THOUSANDS of HD riders for a Friday/Saturday event.

it sucks
I like Craig as a person, but when it comes to the racing, he only cared about money.
Raising the cost of racing, lowering the payouts, yeah, people will quit coming out.
We all knew it was for fun, but when you win your class and it doesnt cover your weekend - something is wrong (450 for winning a class that you drove 12 hours for and paid 50 to get into gate, 60 for class entry, plus your member fees etc....doesnt add up).

The NHRA deal was the final blow, I was against it from the start, it was the final nail in this coffin.
They say, "it'll help promote AHDRA"
I said, "nah, it wont. picking five classes, four of which never have half a dozen bikes in them - dragging bagger had TWO competitors in THREE years. Only one raced last season"

Im just pissed man
Im sad too, this was my extended family. Part of racing was seeing my friends from around the country.

I will miss AHDRA. I am a member of Capone Racing and Bammer Racing. Looks like AMRA, Manufactures Cup and NHRA Screamin Eagle will be it this season. AHDRA was never correctly marketed by C. Tharpe. Ray Price was wrong when he said that HD NHRA deal was good for AHDRA. HD and Rouch destroyed the AHDRA.

rouch?

the NHRA deal is a bad one.
i run et/sep/se - only thing i can do in nhra is et with all of the other bikes. not sure if they allow boxes or not, i dont race against box bikes

amra races are a bit of a drive from me, i MIGHT make one, we'll see

i'll go to richmond mancup race

It seems to depend on the division of the NHRA weather boxes are aloud or not. I went to the div 6 race at woodburn and talked to a couple of the racers and they said no boxes in div 6. The choice of classes to support by H-D with the NHRA in my opinion was ridiculous and showed a lack of knowledge with what was really being raced.

i SORT of understand picking the classes they did. SORTA.
They picked 'street' classes. No bars, have to start on their own/working headlights etc
They pick stuff that looks like fans rides.
I get that.
But it was still a bad choice

I don't know about the rest of the former AHDRA race dates but I do know something about Woodburn Or. The race on August 23,24,25 is now going to be an all bike race. Still going to get Nitro Harleys with Pro Mod Metric bikes, Pro Mods on this coast run 1/4 mile. Only cars will be Nostalgia Funny Cars. This works well they lay down lots of fresh rubber. I will have more when I know.

46 - I've never raced with them, I know little about them other than the fact that their classes are mirror what AHDRA did, but with different names

I will compete with them at the Rock, and there is rumor of picking up the Bristol date, we'll see
But im not really excited about it, just doesn't seem as....I don't know the right word to use here. Upscale?
They race at a lot of random tracks, not many NHRA tracks.
I've seen press releases for them and its got AHDRA racers (with plates being shown) in the pictures.

Just doesn't feel as good to me.
Plus they aren't close to me, so I wont be able to really race with them much.

I REALLY wish someone with some money would pick the org up and restart it without Craig and his lack of interest that ran it into the groud
Someone who has money and doesn't care about money only
Instead, someone that cares about racing and racers. That wasn't Craig. Craig was only interested in money.

Hybrid- I know what you mean when we still had several races out here on the west coast and gas and diesel was cheaper, that is a bigger factor than most want to admit, the pits at Woodburn were almost as full as the NHRA points meet. It wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't as many entries as the points meet, not as many semis hauling race cars and I think we had more spectators. I hope something will come of this race I got kind of bored with just running in the bike class at a car bracket race.

if only I had the money....

I don't know man, like I said, wth AHDRA we always went to NHRA tracks (except Rockingham)
It was the "premier" Harley drag org

I've heard lots of positive things about the AMRA dudes, heard the one race is like a huge party with TONS of people. And that'd be nice to race in front of 10k+ people
But I've also heard stuff like "the tech guy is drinking beer and doesn't even look at your bike really" and that just aint professional.
Im not impressed by comments like that, you know?

We'll see what happens.
Im reluctant, but I'll be at the Rockingham race. And if it happens, I'll go to Bristol.

Just some thoughts having competed successfully with the AHDRA through the Dane Miller, Marty Tharpe and then Craig Tharpe era's...During these years the AMRA(Marty & Jayne) were also there but looked at BY SOME as the lessor sanction..as they did not present as much of a GLAMOUR affect in appearance(Thanks to the GREAT'S such as Jim McClure, Ray Price, Drums Branccasio, Doug Vancil and many others...) AND they did not have the backing of HD/Screamin Eagle monies, etc. either...
In thoroughly reading the AMRA rules section the only Mirrors I really see are the Index and ET classes.....and Index and ET class racing is just that...There other Sportsman classes such as Hot Street for an example, etc. have VERY DIFFERENT rules compared to AHDRA...
AHDRA is gone for now...Pro-Star is gone for now...Time will sort out how things will turn out with AMRA...My opinion is that Marty & Jayne are in for an awakening but also opportunities based on what I am seeing and hearing across alot of forums..They are currently the last player standing, at this time, when it comes to Racers that choose and love the V-Twin as their "1320" platform of expression and they are also the same last player standing, at this time, when it comes to competing for sponsorship support with corporate America...I am very excited for them and hope they get alot of support by both the Racers and the Sponsors..AND that they can adapt to the possible changes...

One more thought...Bowling Green is a "BUCKET LIST" deal for any v-twin drag racer to attend if they never have, either as racer or spectator...and they have 3 of em this year
