So who here is already making plans for Bonneville 2012?

I am currently building a customers bike to run in 1350 MPS-PF using a sportster frame and Buell front end along with an Airtech Charlie Toy fairing. Hopeing for around 180+

Also am thinking about doing a XB12 in production class and running the same 1650 MP-G bike we ran last year but hopefully not blow it up this time. ; )

Will definitely be there. Got new motor going in 750 with bigger injectors and building a 650 class bike as well with all the cast-offs from our 750 bikes.
Going to hit the June Mojave event as it will be 1.5 miles paved!Went 188 on my warm-up on the mile,so the extra 1/2 mile should really get me into boost!

Oh, and building little bike as a side project,125 turbo----

Should have the Sportster ready for 1650 MP-G. Of course I've been saying that for 2 years.

If all goes well i think we can get our 1650 mp-g bike into the high 160s this coming year.

The Japanese team bumped the record up to just over 156 mph this year

I won't be there with the heads as they presently are but you have to run to find out where you are.

I work with what I have available, Dan. And since Greg left me a bike and it is fast and reliable--and cheap-- I will continue to chase records with it.

Those speeds are about the same as the current SCTA records in the those classes at the next engine size down.

Splatter it probably doesn't matter as much running gas, but there have been some controversial changes to the motors since those records were set in the modified classes.
The first and having the largest impact was the outlawing of aftermarket cases in bikes running in modified. Most records were set with S&S cases which are substantial stronger than stock H-D cases especially when the spigot holes are bored to build a big bore motor. The oil system is better in a S&S case primarily on the scavenge side.
I think with enough money and careful engine building the gas class records can be broken. The fuel records if set too high may be extremely difficult to break, I'm not sure a stock case will survive under a stout enough load of nitro to take a record.
The case problem is a SCTA rule not a Bubs AMA rule. What has happened is most of the entrants that have set the old records have moved on to new classes or retired. I don't know about Dan's bike but mine is a stock case Sportster and one has a learning curve to go thru to set a record.
A potential problem running in the Bubs meet is they have changed the seat rule for unstreamlined bikes. Most bikes were running bigbut XRTT seat and tail section this has now been outlawed.
Some of these records were set by girls like Susan Wilson they are following one of the oldest tenants of going faster, punch a smaller hole in the air.
This is strictly my opinion yours may vary.

All Im saying is 180 for mps-pf 1350 and 160 for m-pg 1650 are numbers that have been done in SCTA on smaller motors. Yes they allowed S&S cases when those were set but from what your saying so does Bubs so correct me if Im wrong but theres no difference.

Yes you are correct. I guess I shouldn't bother going because it is futile for me to compete with the budget I have.

Bubs records are AMA not SCTA so go for it!
Turbo Buell was parted out when I could not afford to finish it,Dan.

Ex Federal Express? Or DHL? I bet that's the facility in Wilmington, OH. About 30 minutes from me.

Let me know when you will be there, I'd love to help (pit, run for food, cheer, whatever you need).

Sweet! That is in Wilmington. I'll definitely have to make a run up there.

What's the land speed record for a Razor electric dirt bike? Maybe one of the kids can go for the gold...

If any Buellers will be there and need local support, drop me a note.

hi bill, you are correct....DHL in wilmington oh. absolutely, we would love to have the help! Just ordered a ECTA rule book, but generally the classes look pretty close to the bonneville ones from what i can tell.

Leah will be racing our X1 lightning drag bike (suitably modified) in the 1350 Pushrod gas class (its actually a 1204cc stock bore, but oh well)....still debating if we will be doing bodywork. Need to see what the current record is and the class structure. Would also like to bring an EBR product or two if we can talk them into that before then!

If you notice the differences in speed between a 1350cc pushrod engine and a 1650 pushrod engine in most classes is very slight especially in the naked bike classes. One day I would hope to get it a lot faster but this stuff is not easy and definately not cheap!!!

The 1650 mpg record is 178 and 1350 mpg is 167. So if your running high 160's your about a class down in scta.

The 1350 mpspf record is 191 and 1000 mpspf is 180. So if your running 180+ your running about a class down in scta.

you can see all the records at www.scta-bni.org

Bubs I guess has easier records? Where can you see them?

Fantastic Wes and Leah. Let me know which dates you will be doing, and I'll block time to help however I can.

I'm 30 minutes south of there (about 5 miles from Kings Island and Powder Keg HD), and have a pretty well stocked garage (including MIG and Oxy/Act if that's of any help).

Wilmington was dealt a LOUSY hand by DHL... they deserve something positive. I drive by that facility every time I go to my shooting club, it should be a FANTASTIC place to run.

here is a link to the AMA Bonneville rules from last year. Might be some small changes this year but should generally be the same:

Huh?!?!? No rules differences for two strokes? That makes no sense. Did I miss the rule that covered this? Seems like the two strokes ought to be allowed less displacement....

I wonder if my poor old F8 bison already holds the current record...

250 Cubic Centimeters (Approximately 15.2 Cubic Inches)
P-P 98.959 Smith, C Kawasaki 2008

Geared right, I bet that 250cc rotary valve two stroke motor in my 1971 Bison could do the ton...

The only way they differentiate is by if it's either a pushrod engine or not and then what is the displacement.
