Well, back from the Mojave Mile.Big thanks to Mike Borders and crew for a very well run event.(And letting me run my street Busa when I broke) And to our Buell buds, Steve Slaughter and Sunny for hosting us! Another huge thrash! Did a 188 mph test pass on the 750 then proceeded to break a spark plug off in the head---DANG---and parked it. Struggled with salt gremlins on Dave's nitrous Busa until sunday when Dave w...ent 195 then 197. I had a 197 pass then on literally the last pass of the Mile I squeaked out a 200.4 mph run!!!! Got my Mojave Mile 200MPH club shirt!!!!!!!! It sure was great to see all the familiar faces--Mike Garcia,Karl, Bill and Billy,Scott Horner, and Jeff Cauby, etc. etc. what a great bunch of people! Motor already out and on the bench.
This a a fantastic event ,floks, and the chance to see just how fast your bike--or car--will go.And see if your mods actually work. I think I was most impressed by the Subaru Impreza that ran a 187 MPH pass just after a Dodge Viper could only squeak out a 165 MPH one!

Fastest Fire Man on two wheels!

Way to get small and punch through the 200 mph barrier. Left hand off the bars, tucked in behind your back?

Is running a standing mile for peak speed more like a long drag race compared to Bonneville's longer sustained speed, traction impaired scenario?

Seems like it would present it's own particular challenges for besting 200 mph. Was the nitrous Busa still accelerating at the line?

Were there any top fuel dragster type vehicles? With records exceeding 330 mph in a quarter mile, albeit with a sticky launching zone, it'd be interesting to see what one could achieve in a mile run.

Blake, truly a 1 mile drag race, mess up your launch or a shift and that run is toast.Definitely a different challenge. I had never run my turbo bike on pavement,it has a power band like a 2 stroke. Low compression motor to take big boost so up to 8000rpm it is a bit sluggish, then it starts making boost and proceeds to lose its mind and is at 13,500 really fast.Wanted to come up so soft pedaled first through third on my sighting lap.
Nitrous bike was easier. We were triggering in 4th, then 3rd, then 2nd. Tried first once but it stood up too much so back to 2nd.
Suprised at the lack of those types of cars, not a one. And for being so close to LA I was surprised at the lack of bikes, and only one Harley. Most of the bikes were LSR folks already and I see them at Bonneville or El Mirage.

Was the Busa still accelerating when you hit the finish line?

I have to run numbers to even get a feel for what is happening. At 180 MPH a mile goes by in just twenty seconds, at 360 MPH just 10 seconds. Tough to grasp for the non-racer.

tough to grasp indeed.. i recall a few years ago reading a shootout of several hi-po sports cars in one of the automotive publications, and one of the tests was a standing mile wide open run. They commented that the level of focus and concentration required to not botch what is essentially a mile long drag race is extraordinary. I can only imagine on a bike that would be even more so... very impressive sir..

And just good fun--but ,yeah, lotsa concentration needed on a bike, but that is so part of the fun!
