Ok, So I had a chance to get on the track at Virginia Motorsports Park for "Test and Tune". First attempt resulted in a scratch, because I rolled off the line after staging. (Did I mention this was a noobie question?) One other thing that happened was I blew the seal on my Drummer... So it ran like crap for the rest of the day but I figure... WOT, this might not be a bad thing.

So... next trip down, I get my slip:

Here's my question, I'm on the Left. I lost. (This I know) what I don't know is at the bottom of the slip it says Right 1st: 1.7575 <--- I've done a lot of calculating and I can't figure out where the 1.7575 comes from?

Can anyone tell me?

In this case, this was what is called a heads up run. You both got the green light at the same time.

The totalizing timer starts counting when the light goes green...the run counter starts when you break the staging beam...you were .263 seconds lower off the line than your opponent...you were 1.494 seconds slower in the run.

He had a .263 second head start and got there 1.494 seconds sooner = 1.7575 MOV (margin of victory)...

RT, he left the line .263 before you. Add that with the 1.494 that he beat you by and you get your 1.757.

AHHHH!!! that explains it! I couldn't for the life of me figure that out.

I'll say, I had a good time. I just wish that they didn't assume that everyone knew what the heck to do. I would have loved a little instruction at the track. (maybe I wouldn't have scratched that first time)

But I think I'll stick to road racing... this drag racing doesn't last long enough to make up for mistakes!!!

"does not last long enough to make up for mistakes"....that is the lure of the sport to many....in hard core competition, many passes are won or lost with a MOV of .003 or less...I once lost a round by .0004.

Yeah, wins can be won by the smallest fractions of a second.
You have to be on your game the entire time, its exciting.
