Okay buellers I need your impute. July 18th I head to summit point for road race school. Upon graduation I can submit for a license. My question is which organization would you recommend, CCS or WERA and why?
thanks-chris
I'll be riding a 1125r

All the "known" organizations accept each other's licenses as proof. You might have to pay a fee but might not be forced to take another new racer school. You almost certainly will have to pay a membership fee in crossing over to the other organization.

This trade is done almost without question once you have a few races under your belt.

Email both organizations to ask them directly and ask about reciprocity. I ASS-U-ME that they both accept licenses from the other organization but it's been a few years since I last raced in CCS.

Either org is good. I believe CCS has more classes in which Buells can race.

I Chose WERA because the year I started racing they had the most races closest to my home.

I raced CCS at Daytona after a year of racing WERA. IMO, WERA seemed more like family to me. However, I probably could have said the same thing had I choose CCS.

I am biased, so I say WERA. In the end, choose the one that you feel offers you the best racing opportunities.

Chris,

I rode my XB at Summit and NJMP with CCS/ASRA up until 2009 and there used to be quite a few Buells. There were plenty of classes for the XB, and if i find time to run my 1125 I'll stay with CCS.

I knew more people with that organization vs WERA. Paint_shaker is spot on that it's the people you race and pit with that make the experience.

You're close to Summit and can have a nice weekend running practices and 2 -3 Sprints.

I race my 1125 in CCS, though, in Iowa, that's pretty much the only game around.

If I wanted to be an Ironman the bike can run in these classes:

HW SS
HW SB
UL SS
UL SB
GTO
UL GP
ST
F40 (if age 40+)

And if ASRA is in town:
TC - GTO class
SuperStock

Should be enough to keep you busy. : )

1125 is very competitive in the ST class, and the HW classes.

Which organization is more "user friendly"? I know the WERA rulebook is long as the great wall and CCS rulebook is pretty cut and dry.

WERA requires just a few more safety wirings than CCS and also a steering damper is mandatory for WERA.

Also, how do you guys(1125r) have your front brake caliper bolts safety wired? The bolt head is set back into the mount.

I ground the head at a 45* angle in one spot, then drilled a hole through there, I can slide the wire through there.

Jdugger has a much better way that uses a spacer and a longer bolt, which reminds me that I wanted to order that hardware before the races in two weeks....now off to find that thread with the link.

I like racing with CCS but it's because it's where I've raced over the years.

I was going to start doing WERA races this year with the SV, but I got a great deal on my XB. Because my XB is SB-spec, it makes it hard to race it in WERA.

Honestly, if WERA had more races closer to me, I would have went racing with them in the first place.

SV, WERA has 2 classes you can be competitive in; LWT SB and F2. Depending on the crowd, it can also be competitive in LWT SOLO 20 races. Not very competitive in HWT SS, HWT SB or CSS (though C SS can be fun on slower, more technical tracks).

I thought you had to use a SS-spec motor in WERA to race the LW classes. I guess I misread the rule book.

Thanks for the information though.

SS spec motor for Buell in LWTSB or any other SS class. SB spec can run any of the SB classes (except LWTSB).

CCS MW is almost dead, unless you live around Chicago. One Topeka Ks race and 6 Blackhawk Farms races. Topeka backed off, gateway closed, road America was screwed up and MAM, Hallett and MPH wasn't approached. Most of the Kansas, eastern Missouri and eastern Nebraska riders are now running CRMA.

What part of PA?

I'm hoping to race the mid-August race at NJMP and end of August race at Summit Point. I'm not particularly fast, but I know where the tech, registrations and the bathrooms are.

PM me if you go CCS and to those races.

I live pretty much smack-dab in the middle of PA (altoona/state college area). I am going to go with CCS. I need to send them a copy of my RRS certificate. I'll let you know if I go to those races for sure. It all depends with work, I work weekends.

Hopefully, you'll be able to hit one of them. Didn't you own Keith old XB?

I'm between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton.

A superstock 1125R is eligible in wera for:
HWTSS
HWTSB
B-SB (in superstock trim)
A-SS
A-SB
F1
Senior Heavyweight Superbike (if you're 40+)
That's a lot of classes. I've never raced ccs but only because of geography.

for superstock is a full ebr race exhaust and race ecm allowed? I'm 24 years old

Tony216, yes, I did have keith's old bike. It was a fun bike hands down but I wanted something with more top end and not so high strung. A badwebber by the name Jersey Thunder has the XB now. I have Jersey Thunder's 1125R

I was gonna make him an offer on it when he was selling it. And then you put it up for sale right after I bought mine. It was a cool bike.

The 1125 is a sweet bike. My friend, Joe, raced one last year. If you end doing CCS stuff, I'll introduce you.

good. What about a chain drive swing arm? I'm assuming that the "stock" means like not full fairings, stock motor, and stock frame/sub frame?

ALL still legal under WERA rules. LWT and HWT twins have no body work limits.

D-bubble is body work, right? Twins have no body work limits, even in SS.

I run a DB in SS on the 1125. No one has ever said anything. If you can change to any bodywork as allowed by the rules then the windscreen has to be included.
