I made my initial contact with a CP Piston rep today in an attempt to get some parts ordered. Michael at Erik Buell Racing turned me onto CP as they (Erik Buell Racing) predominately carry road race geared parts. I dealt with a Terry Stewart who is a CP distributor and a Nitro drag racer, cool!

Mike1125 had given me the heads up in regards to having to order 4 pistons when ordering custom pistons. So at this time I'm looking see if I can go bigger than the 3 MM overbore (1190) that the road race guys are limited to. In the area 1250cc would be fine if doable.

CP is also Carillo rods so I am looking to change the rods also. Erik himself told me to at least change the rod bolts.

Terry has done cam work on the 1125's so I'll wait to see what he has to offer as well as what they are going to run me.

I'm hoping to get some numbers on pricing here shortly as well as availability (sounds like everything is 6-8 weeks for custom). I'm OK with the time frame at this point as this stuff isn't on the shelf anywhere and what is is for the street or road racers.

A couple of weeks later and I'm still working on this. I have been all over the place with the bore choice. OK I believe I have come up with my bore size of choice. As of now I'm going to go with a 4.270" bore which will net me close to a 1250 CC displacement (1247). This bore size will leave me plenty of wall thickness on both the thrust and non thrust side as well as the skirt. By going this way I won't have to use epoxy or block fill to reinforce the areas that may be a little close to my minimum clearances that I desire. This is subject to change before I actually get my order placed (waiting on cam, valve and spring pricing).

I CC'd the heads tonight (non scientific way) and came up with 26.4 CC +/- Combustion Chamber volume, small!

just curious if your plan will be to offer a kit to the public once you've done the leg work, or if this will be a one time build?

Thanks for taking the time. I'll be keeping track!

LOL No this is just for me and I'm sharing the info while I work on it. There will be a few companies offering 1190 big bore options here shortly. There is even one who is looking to go outside the standard 1190 config.

A slight change in plans, again. The bore is going to a 4.275" in order to come up with rings. The 4.270" apparently is an "in between" size. On the plus side I will now have a true 1250 CC/76.3 CUIN motor.

The rods are complete! Waiting on the pistons and rings still. The heads are on their way to be ported as well as the cylinders are en-route to get bored.

I have my contact info for Cometic to get my gaskets. I have a call into ARP for head bolts. The next thing is cams, I have multiple calls into Erik Buell Racing with not a single return call so I'm going to contact a cam company I know that has already cut some Rotax cams.

Once I get the rods and pistons I can balance the rotating assembly and start assembling. I still lack an exhaust but have made some calls to see what I can come up with. While I know I need a good exhaust I'm not to worried about it as an off the shelf complete system will be better than what I currently have.

Received an email yesterday that the rods and pistons are done. Now its time for me to split the cases and get the crank ready to balance. The heads and cylinders should be at their locations Monday. The cylinders are going to take 2 weeks according to Millenium and I'd guess the heads will take just as long if not longer.

Intrigued by the rods... I have stumbled across a shop griding cams probably the same one.

".030" more lift valve and 7 degrees more duration over the stock specs. standard valvesprings ok , makes bigger power gains from 4000 rpm to redline"

Don't want to post the link because the sponsor police will drop the hammer..

I wonder if that additional lift will work with the shaved heads (-.030)?

I'm interested in the shop doing the cam work. mikecorrell2000 at yahoo dot com

It is at least worth speaking with them to see if I can get a drag race cam as opposed to a road race cam and make due with it.

I spoke with Dan from Crower Performance (Son of Crower Cams) today. He was excited to work on a drag bike project as to date it has all been street and road race stuff for him. I boxed my cam cores up and they are off to him tomorrow. Once he receives them he'll give me a call and we'll discuss what the 1250 will like cam wise.

It looks like I'm down to gaskets, seals, bearings etc. and head studs as far as the hard parts go. Assembly and tuning will be a joy. The local guys don't want to touch the race ECM so I may have to take a run to Erik Buell Racing in Wisconsin to get this thing tuned. It sure is a little hard to believe someone closer can't tune using the Erik Buell Racing Race tuner. The local guys want to install Power Commander crap, I don't think so!

If you still need studs and such, one possible source that I have used for years is APE...even if they don't have 1125 specific studs, if you have the sizes they either have them or can make them up. Their valvetrain stuff is top shelf too...they helped me keep all the oily parts inside some pretty stout motors I used to run.

I'll look them up this afternoon and see what I can come up with.

ARP didn't list a head stud/bolt however they are the one making them for the Erik Buell Racing bikes according to Erik Buell Racing.

I split the motor cases today as I needed the crank to send off for balancing.

Here are the new rods, pistons and crank ready to go for balancing.

Look at the crap in the oil screen. I wonder how much was from the first time around and the dealer didn't clean it.

Stuff everywhere!

Old rods and piston. The damaged piston Erik Buell signed for me and sits on my desk.

Pretty stout clutch assembly.

I'm keeping it moving.

The rotating assembly was dropped off for balancing this morning.

This afternoon I ordered my head gaskets from Ashley at Cometic. I had to go with copper gaskets due to the bore size as the multi layer gaskets didn't have enough room for the crush ring.

I was finally able to order some parts from Erik Buell Racing. I ordered a set of ARP head studs as they stock them.

Aside from assembly I'm down to ordering a race exhaust system.

Interesting question. I am familiar with O-rings as my drag car has that done. The few I have talked to about doing it on the bike have looked at me funny. YES I'd like to O-ring the cylinders as there is very little gasket surface to get the heads to seal. My intentions were to wait until I received the parts and see what I had to work with.

ARP head studs, nothing fancy to look at but an important piece to keeping it all together.
