I would rather not have a perfect light with no red lights.

But One thing that helped me with cutting lights is rolling a little further in the beams. Not to be mistaken with deep staging but just given myself that extra inch or to gave me the hundreth or two I need.

I wish me luck too, baby due in April doubt I make any AHDRA races this year.

But I love competition, I have put out the best and been put out by the best. No day like raceday : )

late to the party
first - bike looks awesome, good to see guys running the 1125R at the dragstrip. I know they werent designed for it, so its the bastard redheaded stepchild, good job on doing the bike justice.

about the weight/hp thing
7 lbs = 1HP
10 HP = 1 tenth

I dont think this is accurate on a motorcycle.
Thats pretty much saying 'if you can drop your bikes weight by 70 lbs you'll go 1/10 of a second faster.'
Think about that. 70 pounds. On a bike that weighs 7X that stock.
If you really believe that dropping 70 pounds will only net you 1/10 of a second then....well...whatever. I disagree.

There are tons of calculators online, but nothing makes up for actual testing. And this might make sense for a car, but I dont beleive it for a bike at all.

Those calculators dont consider your launch, your gearing, air pressure in tires etc etc etc so many parts of this and to say 'well it'll be 1/10 faster after X' is just silly to me. And most racer.

Willie - garrett here on the red S3 with bars, we met at Rock this past October. Congrats on the baby.
Think you'll make it to either Rock race this season? I plan to do Orlando, both Rock races, Norwalk, and Bristol for sure. LA and Penn are up in the air. We'll see how money and time go.

I've never went perfect on the lights. Though I've gotten dang perfect in competition a few times. In MD a few years ago for the AHDRA race at Rising Sun I came off the trailer and put a .002 down in the first round. Same thing happened in Bristol this past year. Great RT, but sucks when someone goes .001 and gets the extra 150 dollars for best RT

I don't know if I will make many races this year, probably going to stay local and whoop up on some jap crap : ) I have already spent most my funds this year on the bike. The piston's came apart at another race after Rockingham so no $ to make these cross country journeys. I got rid of the wheelie bars and put a 12" extension on it that is one reason I was so interested in this post because I got rid of my aluminum swingarm and went to the older style steel with an extra 2' of steel and bracing.

I am with you, I don't think on a motorcycle weight is as big of a factor (well to an extent) if you can shave 20 lbs that will help. I just wanted to know how much weight I need to lose to make up for the new swingarm, getting rid of the wheelie bar weight helps. I do get what these guys are doing I just don't have that much time.

I hate to brag but I am pretty good at the line, I got a bye at Rockingham to put me in the $ in ET with a .002 light and that is on 500 tree I can do that all day on a 400 tree : ) My problem is racing to hard and running out, it never fails in an important race I will run out by a thousandth.

well no, I think it makes MORE of a difference.
I mean they are saying to lose 1/10 in the 1/4mile you need to lose 70 pounds off of the bike.
Approximately 1/7th or so of the bikes weight.
Approximately 14% of the weight.
Now lets think of this like a human body.
I weigh just north of 200lbs, but lets say 200 to make this easier.
If I lost 14% of my weight that'd be 28 pounds. I'd say a person going from 200 to 170 is pretty significant.
Same thing here. To think after losing 14% of your bikes weight that you'd ONLY gain a tenth is freaking DUMB.

sucks about your motor willie, Im sure you'll get it sorted and even better for 2011.

First let me say Joe, your bike looks awesome best wishes for a an incredibly great season and quicker and quicker laps .

Weight is of little consequence if you are ET racing. Most of my ET bikes were built for durability but with enough motor to be able to run mid 9's no matter how bad the air got so I could always be able to run supergas if I wanted and to be mid pack in Pro ET.

I agree that trying to chop the tree down on every pass is a good way to redlight your way home...the important thing is the "package" (how close you run to your dial plus your Reaction time)....012 packages will get you rounds at most races.

I honestly don't know what is allowed in AHDRA Pro ET as far as controls go..I raced Prostar and used every legal advantage I could use...from a well thought out strategy to throttle stops, progressive nitrous, and muti-hit delay boxes for crossover racing.

Back to the weight thing...if you are trying to push the envelope...weight is HUGE....I raced a lot of other people's bikes back in the day...other than I was a pretty good rider, in my 20's I weighed 110 pounds soaking wet....I can assure you that a bike that runs good with it's 220 pound owner....run KILLER with a 110-120 pound skilled rider.

Lightening the bike and being damn creative with it is a great thing...it will help, as will lightening as much rotating mass as possible....

ahdra has no pro et,just et.
no electronics (delay boxes)
no throttle stops
progressive nitrous is legal and know several that've used it.
