You are definately getting there. ET drags are won on consistancy. ANY thing you can do to exactly run the same time 5 times in a row....and be able to predict ET as the conditions change.

Some of the stuff is less important than other stuff depending on you level of aggression.

If you just want to twist a grip and knock down a few fun passes on test n tune night, or if your aim is to be national ET champion.

It all takes time and having an association with someone that knows the ropes at the level you decide to shoot for.

If you do decide to go for that national championship you will need to be able to run pass after pass without deviating more than a hundredth and be able to cut .012 or or better lights time after time. I have won and lost countless times by a thousandth...at top notch professional ET events, the last few rounds are won or lost by .010 packages (A package is a combination of reaction time plus the difference in et between the actual pass vs the dial-in.)

It is a far more complex sport than those who say "any idiot can drag race...all you do is twist the throttle in a straight line". ET racing is as challenging as master level chess.

Puzzled: I assume you are running a strut...what I am wondering is- can bars be setup with strut or struts incorporated so the stock suspension can stay in place for street riding? My ultimate goal is to have a quick mount set of bars with adjustable strut length-for lowering the rear- and still retain streetability once removed. Is this possible? Fast1075?

Bott, The strut goes in place of the shock. The bars come off in about 5 minutes and the shock/strut change adds about 45 minutes. Realalistically it takes an hour to change from street to strip. As time goes I may get quicker at it. Streetabilty is not compromised as you are swapping the strut for the shock and visa-versa. I strap the front so I haven't changed my settings at all in the front end.

looks great! my thought is a pair of struts running from top bar to bottom. Adjustable ride height and shock remaing in place---but non functional, due to the struts. Sound feasible?

I understand what your attempting to do. Having the bars made to your length is not a problem. I can't see how the strut would mount along side of the shock. There isn't enough room, the right side has the frame and the left side has the shock reservoir.

yea, I want to go outboard, a completely rigid, bolt on unit. May have to build it like a truss, with bars perpendicular running on both sides from upper mounts to near the axle mounts

OK, outboard would be like a twin shock Sporty/V-Rod/Dyna. They simply attach the arm to the frame. In your case you potentially could use the upper and lower mounting points of the wheelie bars.

I went to the track again Wednesday. It was Hot as Hell again. Enough so that I had sweat dripping out of my helmet. I made ten runs and called it a night. My times were nothing to brag about as both ET and MPH were down. All in all my runs were relatively consistent. The V-Twin simply did not like the heat. I don't ever recall hearing my fans run so much. They ran so often that my battery light flickered a few times on start up. I found myself watching the IC and battery voltage more so than ever before. With 46 runs on my street Dunlop it is officially toast. Toward the end of the night it simply was not hooking. I have no complaints with how the tire performed overall for not being a drag tire.

Best of the night.

I hit the track again last night. While it was still humid it was not nearly as hot as it has been.

I made 5 passes, 4 were 10.3's and 1 11.4 where I spun off of the line and the bike shifted into 2nd gear.

60' ET MPH
1.682 10.336 128.030
1.686 10.318 133.610
1.692 10.398 131.770
1.671 10.357 125.960
2.005 11.490 129.140

The bike felt good with the direct drive front sprocket. I had my tire pressure high as a starting point. I did expierence some tire spin so I will start dropping pressure to find what the tire/track likes. Something new, the bike was shifting into 5th at the line. This is a first as I would catch 4th before the traps and run through the lights with some RPM left. I'm considering lowering the front a little. I have to read up on this some however I noticed that the fast bikes were slammed.

I hit the track again tonight. I'm getting better a little at a time. I did experience a little tire spin from time to time. As the night went on I did drop the tire pressure some.

On one particular run the bike launched, spun, hooked and than shifted into second. It shifted so hard that the air box came up and slammed me in the chest knocking a little wind out of me. I was laughing like a little kid when it happened, that was cool.

I think with some time spent setting the bike up, the little things, my high 9 with a street tune is possible. I say that purely based on my MPH. That MPH is a 9.7/9.8. That tells me I'm leaving a lot at the starting line between my 60' numbers and my 660' numbers. So now I have to figure out how to improve those numbers. I will start with a front tire change, simply because it is toast. Once a good tire is on the bike I'll put some air to the tire to try and limit rolling resistance. Next up is lowering my shift points. Looking at my dyno sheet the bike goes linear at 10k to 10.5k. I'm shifting at 10.5k. Knocking it down to say 10.2 k may save with wasting time running up in the rpms with no power gain as well as dropping me back into the torque after the shift. I also HAVE to concentrate on going to WOT immediately, sometimes I don't think I do this quick enough. This is where the two stage limiter will help.

I'll get this bike in the nines on a street tune with street exhaust before the summer is over. Than it will get a race tune and possibly a race exhaust, mid 9's is the goal. From there maybe a little nitrous to see how low in the 9's the bike will go.

Knowing who I was running was a help as we both put some heat in the tires.

I'm not sure if this is the run or not however Rich was treeing me most of the night. Now keep in mind I was cutting .0XX lights with one .005. Rich red-lit twice trying to jump me on the line.

I'm carrying the wheel here.

The bike came down here for some reason. I think I spun as I was launching a around 8500 RPM. Look at Rich's bike picking the wheel up.

The tire sticking and the wheel coming back up.

Oh so close to a 9. There were 4 oil downs tonight so I got very few runs in in comparison to most nights. My first two runs were not so exciting as the air shifter wasn't cooperating. One run I just aborted and the other I foot shifted to the tune of a 10.338. With that fixed my times were dropping. I was concentrating of going full throttle as soon as I could. I had my shifter set at 9500 tonight, a full one thousand lower than where I have been running it. My next time out I'll try the shifter with a little less/more RPM's.

Have 3 weeks back after a blown motor in May. Made semi's Wednesday, cut a 002 light, missed a shift and got trailered. The tree was mine this week,as i got a bye in round 2 with an 091 previous light. been foot shifting since my new air shift just wont cooperate. Bone stock including 50 lb pipe, running 11.3xx on an 11.30 dial like clockwork. I am only cutting high 1.8 to low 1.9 sixtys, but i know there is a lot more in the bike, I am just too new at this to launch much harder. front strapped and feeling very stable on launch.
I figured this season was pretty much a wash, but now that i got a taste of winning rounds i am not changing anything for the remaining 3 weeks.

Ordered a 149 tooth belt tonight. Should be here by Wednesday. I'll check on my 76 tooth sprocket tomorrow to see if it is in yet. This will give me 2.81, 2.92 and 3.04 to 1 gearing in addition to my 2.59, 2.69 and 2.80. It will be nice to have choices. The 2.92 is what I think the bike will like in the quarter. I am guessing I should be going through the traps in fifth gear real close to redline now.

finally got my butt to the track for some runs. I have been so busy with my kids and Scouting that I haven't had much time to ride or race (sans my Daytona trip).

The 76/26 (2.92) gearing is working great. I used a Gates Poly belt which has ridges on the back which tends to make it a little noisy. That was an initial concern but has no ill affect on the setup. The belt is a stock application listing for a Big Dog motorcycle which is the same as a CR. The gearing makes this a wheelie bike at the blip of the throttle. 76 tooth CR rear pulley, CR belt, Self made tensioner, stock R arm, self made 26 tooth font pulley.

In addition to the gear change I got my Erik Buell Racing ADJUSTABLE ECM. This thing is no toy! If something functions on the bike this ECM will access it and allow changes. YOU CAN fug up the bike real fast if you don't know what your doing. Fortunately Michael from Erik Buell Racing, Dan who assists Erik Buell Racing (software guy) and Mike from BadWeb all have been a great help. Michael hooked me up with the ECM. Dan helped me get the software sorted out to suit my needs. Mike has hands on real world experience with the software so his "Layman's" terms got the ECM exactly where I wanted it.

What I did with the ECM is set it up as a two stage rev limiter that is activated by the clutch switch. When I stage I simply pull the clutch in and hold the throttle wide open. The two step is currently set at 9k which was overpowering the tire Wednesday night. I'll adjust that the next trip to the track to suit the track conditions. With the gear change and launch RPM the bike was coming off of the line like it was shot out of a cannon. The tire was going up in smoke immediately hitting the shift RPM and clicking into 2nd gear. I was laying down 10.1's launching in 2nd while skating down the track. I say skating as I had my front strap a tad to tight which had the bars a touch hi. This had the front wheel barely touching the ground which had me a little uneasy. I did work on my leaning to steer the bike as opposed to adjusting the suspension to get the steering back.

My trip to the track Wednesday was simply to test the two step and gearing. I didn't work on setting the bike up at all as I'll do that the next trip out. Looking at my numbers I'm guessing there is a 9.8/9.7 in the bike as is. I had to give up my Fuel Solutions tune with the Erik Buell Racing ecm (looking to change that). They appear to be written in two different formats which are not compatible. I'd like to get the bike tuned and see if I can't challenge Mike 9.36ET and Joe 9.43ET.
