Heartland Park September 4th and 5th canceled.
Economic reason given. Hope this doesn't become a trend!

I have a feeling it's the beginning of the end for the GP region.

Too bad as that was the series that I was going to race next year.

yep it's starting... CCS and (maybe the tracks not sure how the car racing market is) need to start make some changes if they are going to survive. They need to do something to draw more people.

I make good money, have no kids and wrench myself. I can barley afford to go to the track twice a month. I had to take off the last 2 months to get out of credit card trouble.

Some thoughts from a 1st year am racer's perspective...

1. don't charge gate entry fees for racers or pit help, come on, we're the entertainment!

2. don't charge me for my pit vehicle, it has plates and insurance already. Why do I have to sign a waiver and then pay more, insurance reasons I get it, but I already have insurance!

3. Cut back on the track help. One of the 2 races I was at I had 3 different people ask me for my camping pass ($50) in one night and had 2 more the next. Cut back a person or 2 and charge me $10....

4. Rain sucks!! There's a higher percentage of people who don't like to race/ride in the rain than people who do, cut some slack on the entry/race fees when it rains. More people might show up on those 50-50 days.

5. Make it fun.. Give me a chance to win some cash... There is nothing like feeling you get when racing but if there is no out there to race I might as well just go to track days.. it's expensive enough but to spend $1500 and come home with a $10 plaque is hard to justify oh and maybe $50 off a $500 set of n-tecs. Lower the entry fee and have guys throw money in a pot... 7-8 bike grids and say you get 2-4ths a 5th and a 6th you could have a in 4 races.. 8 racer fields and leave with $75-$100 hey that's McD's and some gas for the ride home sweet!

6. Sorry white plates but if you get a head start and get passed consistently by the yellows your status should be demoted. It should benefit both parties.. make the yellow fields bigger and help fund there efforts more with experience and winnings/contingency.. I'm sure they do this now to some extent..

I'm sure the tracks and CCS have justification for there method of operation. I'm a six sigma certified engineer/estimator and work with sales, long story short my job is to find ways for our company and customers to save money through process/continuous improvement. Since I might not have a bike next year I may get my credentials together and offer my services to the CCS....

I've also heard some rumor now about CCS not being at BHF next year.

Some good news:

Email from Kevin:

Yes, we are combining the canceled Heartland and the final BHF race. We will
still run the new one day race schedule and pay double Great Plains and
double Mid West points. Also if you're posting this, please mention the BHF
practice day on Saturday and contacting BHF for pre-entry to the practice.

That would be a shame... they might as well shut down the MW region, that's the closest decent track to Chicago. Not sure if the speedways have a road course but if they can't attack enough people from a population that large this may be all a waste of time.. who knows WERA could move in on BHF???

I stood in a line about 15 yards long for 1+1/2 hours for registration. This is one of the things I would improved.

I would start of by having some sort of bar code scanner data base system so they could access your information by scanning your CCS license or if you forgot you could manually access by and ID #. When registering, your card would be scanned and the program would pull up a window your info (You could manipulate your “profile” on line with credit card #, bike, VIN #’s, address, pix whatever else and it would show your points status) and on this window a check box for every race would appear and would just tell them which races you want. Or pre register on-line the same way. When you have all the races selected the CCS worker would click one button which would out put a receipt, automatically charge the card associated with the profile, and down load you into a race grid data base configured by a formula based on points and date of entry. Basically the program would configure the grids with a click of the button.

One could even have a separate data base that drives the race selection with the eligible races by bike. So a data base with every bike (a lot if work) would have certain races attached to that bike and on your profile you would select your bike or bikes for a pull down and have the eligible races automatically highlighted when registering. Not sure this would be necessary at first.

Also there would be a bar code (same as on the License)on the bike so when your waiting in tech someone would scan your bike and all intell would show up on the LCD like what races, your paid for and the tech would ok you from the scanner and when you are on the grid waiting for practice run someone would scan each bike and it could say your in the wrong group or didn’t pay, whatever…

Not sure of the current process but it looks to me like they do a majority of this by hand… it might not be helpful but it cut the registering time down. Data and scanner programs have become very user friendly and somewhat cheap.

I got the talking part done...
