Could this be BMW's break out weekend?? Maybe BMW is "pissed" enough at Aprilia's little dig to show them what they can do??

Speed is showing the races here LATE Sunday night/early Monday morning. I'll have to catch it on DVR but I'm pretty sure I'll know who'd won by then. :-(

Ducati and Aprilia have had carbon forks since the 990 days. Ducati uses the extra stiffness as an attempt to overcome some of the flex of a trellis frame. They cost enough that they took them off the bike for the replacement rider (Hoffman) in 2006. The closest thing available to the public (which uses aluminum outer tubes) retails for over $13k

Actually it is a bit more than whining, and they do have some considerable justification at the moment. The rules were 'waived' or at best liberally interpreted to allow Aprilia to run cam drives that were not on the stock bike and not available to buy (hence strictly illegal). However since the ruling Aprilia have still not made this cam drive available to customers yet so are in theory still illegal. However the organisers seem to like Aprilia so they are turning what appears to be a blind eye.

Unfortunately the net result will be that the other factories will 'build themselves into a corner' by producing superbikes purely to win the WSB championship and with no or little relevance to road riders. Having seen pictures and specs of the new Kawasaki ZX10 I can say that it has been designed purely to win a championship, and is yet another 190bhp missile irrelevant for todays road rider.

I think that all the current 1000cc road bikes producing +160RWHp , are irrelevant to 95% of todays road riders.

Checa on a satellite Ducati could beat the Aprilia in the US races. Propably , Checa could beat Biaggi at Misano on a Xerox Ducati bike. Or maybe it is Biaggi's year , and it is not that much down to the Aprilia's bike.

Could Bayliss beat Biaggi's Aprilia if he was riding the Xerox Ducati ??? I say ...100% Yes.

Bayliss was much faster than both Fabrizio and Haga during the Ducati Weekend a few days ago. Fabrizio should look elsewhere than Aprilia's bike for not being able to stay with Biaggi.

I would not mind if Aprilia got the title. We need a new manufacturer doing well, and Aprilia put a lot of efford and money into the WSBK series. I would feel sorry for Haslam , since I think that he is by far the best rider in WSBK at the moment , he just has not have the abilities of Spies to override the Suzuki as Ben did with the Yamaha last year.

I also think that Ducati needs to have the same minimum weight as the 4cyls.

There was nothing stopping Honda producing a V4 1000cc VFR RR a few years ago , and doing what Aprilia is doing now. Why blaming Aprilia for trying to produce the best ever WSBK bike ?? Bravo to Aprilia !!! I just dislike Biaggi......

In much the same way Buell was allowed to run the 1125R and RR last year because the chain drive was available even though only to racers through factory support.

I think any bike producing 100+ horsepower is irrelevant to today's roads and laws. It has never been about who could ride the best. It's about who's bike is the coolest or how it makes you feel. Otherwise the factories wouldn't go racing at all. It's like golf clubs… there's only one Tiger Woods but there's thousands of people that want to use the same clubs he uses.

As far as who could beat who on what bike and when goes. It's all guesses and emotions based as much on television production as technical knowledge as far as we go. However, I'm sure that Erik or Court could beat any of them ;^)

The biggest surprise is that Smrz has gone to Aprilia and not to BMW as was widely expected (especially having tested the bike extensively a few weeks ago). I don't know how competitve a satellite Aprilia will be though as they haven't done too well in other national series running private RSV4's so far.

Maybe Aprilia offered a better deal? Or Smrz figured he was better off with Biaggi's bike than Corser's as Biaggi has stood on the podium more times? Who knows...

Trouble is, there can be a world of difference between factory teams and privateer teams running the 'same' bike as we all know. Just look at the private BMW team that Andrew Pitt was supposed to ride for this season...poor performance and then no money to finish the season with : (

Hopefully Smrz has some asurances and guarantees from Aprilia as he is one of the most exciting WSB riders already and would be good to see on a fully competitive bike : )

Because they're often the first to post any news, that's why. And I see Nori had some crashes today. He never does well in qualifying I'm afraid... but if he's gotten his "feel" back he can challenge from damned near any position on the grid.

The Suzuki 'factory' team haven't had any upgrades at all from the factory since the first round of the season, so have had to struggle to develop new parts themselves and this patently isn't working. The Suzuki apparently struggled at Brno because they put too much weight on the front end and couldn't cope with all the fast downhill corners. Haslam adjusted the weight distribution right back but it still wasn't enough : (

Aprilia and BMW are constantly developing their bike at huge expense and Ten Kate have had a lot of HRC input recently, so Suzuki (and Yamaha) are struggling to keep up unfortunately.

Different riders have widely different setup preferences. Strange how Guintoli goes well at a track where Haslam suffers, but the rest of the year has been pretty much eclipsed by Haslam (with the exception of Philip Island round 1). Obviously Sylvain likes to weight the front a lot more than Leon does and was happy with the setup at Brno.

Confidence is everything when it comes to setup and feel, and if a rider doesn't feel confident in his bike it will make his performance suffer. Just look at the difference between Fabrizio and Haga until recently to see this. Haga has struggled with confidence this year since his heavy crashes, but there is very little wrong with the bike.
