Shinko has what they are calling their new Hook Up Drag Radial. I can't seem to find what the difference is between the H.U. and the 003 Ultra Soft Compound. Anyone with any expierence?

I have run the 003 on a few customers bikes and they love them for the price.

I did see that the H.U. weighed 14LB and the 003 is 13LB for a 180.

There has been some talk that several people have had issue with this tire.
But this is all that I've heard

I read something on the drag bike forum about that but was not sure what they were talking about. That makes it clear now. Now I wonder if that was a fluke incident or common occurrence?

I believe I'll just go with an ultra soft or a standard 003. There is no sense in chancing it on two wheels!

Looks to me like the guy was out of shape at mid track..looks like he was out of the groove and hanging off trying to keep it off the wall...the bike went into tank slappers...I bet he pulled a hand full of front brake while crossed up...

Cronan128 have you run the 003 in the past? Did the hook-up help your launch at all?

yes i have run the 003 and the hook-up so far works better it has a much bigger contact surface but also this is only on one track if you would like i will let you know how it works because this weekend i will be traveling to the ahdra race in bristol so i will get some runs on a different track.... but so far i like the tire better then the shinko stealth, metzeler dragtec and racetec, as well as the mickey thompson shootout tire, i am only running this tire on a mid to low 11 second buell though but it is deffinitly getting traction

I'd be interested to hear how it works for you on a different track.

I took a chance and ordered a Hook-Up Shinko. With 46 runs and street time on my Dunlop it is done. I was launching what felt hard to me last night and my 60' times were dismal. I think I am getting some tire spin and simply can't feel it while on the bike.

I'm looking forward to trying the Shinko.

To save time swapping stuff around I picked up a wheel from a fellow forum member as well as a rotor and pulley from Ebay.

I ordered a 180 and received a 190.

This gave me the chance to weigh the two tires.

The 180 weighed in at 11 pounds 10 ounces.

The 190 weighed in at 13 pounds.

A 1 pound 6 ounce difference.

Any race reports back on the tires? I have a '90 sportster w/'01 S3 EFI engine, I've gotten a best run of 11.83 @ 110 on a rock hard mt90. I'm in the process of gong to a wider swingarm and adding nitrous and air shifter and it's time for a rear tire. I'm up in the air between the std 003 and the hook up. The bike still sees alot of street miles. Hell I rode it 700 mile round trip to a car show last summer.

The Hook-Up has worked well for me. If your going to do track and street with it I'd go with the 003. The Hook-Up as with most slick based tires needed the air pressure dropped as the launch RPM increased. It feels real good out in the middle of the track where a slick starts to feel a little "funny".

For me I'll be going to a MT slick since I run bars. The slick is softer and will allow a little more rider input to try and get the bike to go straight(er).
