High Country Buell/H-D will again field at least one Buell in the Pikes Peak International Race to the Clouds. This is our third year of racing in America'second oldest motorsport; only Indy 500 eclipses the Pikes Peak race.

It is 27June2010, a month earlier this year. Ducati, sensing Buell not fielding entries this year perhaps, is coming on with a bonifide team effort.

The race starts at 9,200 feet, traverses 156 unique turns & switchbacks, about half paved, half dirt & gravel and finishes above 14,200 feet.
Colorado Springs, May 20-------Ducati North America will go all out on June 27 with its formidable motorcycle entry in the 2010 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, bringing two Multistrada 1200’s to the 88th Race to the Clouds in Colorado Springs.

Team Spider Grips Ducati will field a two bike team with riders Greg Tracy and Alexander Smith, no strangers to riding Ducatis up the mountain, with both having raced the Hypermotard in 2008. The racers are enthusiastic about the Multistrada, planning to put its traction control, ride by wire throttle and other electronic revelations to good use.

Tracy (Long Beach, CA) is a four-time Pikes Peak Champion. He won titles in 1996, 1999, 2006 and 2008 on the Hill. Smith (Mission Viejo, CA) is the son of legendary racer Malcom Smith, a three-time winner of the Baja 1000.

This will be Ducati’s second attempt to win the prestigious event, following a 2008 “skunk works” effort in which Ducati won the 1200cc class with the Hypermotard 1100. This year Ducati has organized an official effort surrounding the new Multistrada 1200, partnering with Spider Grips of Southern California to run the team.

“We are excited to partner with Ducati for this year’s Pike Peak International Hill Climb,” said Spider Grips Principal Paul Livingston. “The new Multistrada 1200 caught our eye when Ducati unveiled it in Milan last November, and we have been dying to race one since. We are really looking forward to getting out there in June!”

“Considering the success we had with the Livingstons in 2008, we’ve been plotting a return to the Mountain in 2010 since the early days of developing the new Multistrada 1200.” Said Ducati North America’s Sales and Marketing Director, Jason Chinnock.

The Spider Grips Ducati Multistradas will be officially unveiled at the team’s dealer partner Ducati Newport Beach tomorrow at 5:00pm. The entire team including riders and technicians will be on hand until 7:00pm to chat and show off the newly completed race bikes. The world’s first two racing Multistrada’s will continue to be on display at Ducati Newport Beach for the remainder of the weekend after the unveiling Friday night.

The 2010 event should continue the excitement and heated competition that marked last summer’s chase that attracted 163 racers in 17 classes who attacked the 12.42 mile course with 156 turns to the 14,110-foot summit.

To date, a total of 152 racers and drivers have registered for the 2010 event, including 16 returning champions from last summer’s showdowns in all classes.

The popular Fan Fest, presented by Budweiser, which attracted almost 35,000 fans to downtown Colorado Springs to meet the drivers and racers, see their cars, trucks and motorcycles, and enjoy music, food and special events, is set for Friday, June 25, from 5:00-10:00 p.m.

Race tickets & camping permits are now available for purchase through the PPIHC web site (http://www.ppihc.com)
