I called Alto Carbonite - the manufacturer of the XB and XBRR slipper clutch plates just to ask if their plans were to continue supporting the slipper clutch made by STM. I just got a call from Sunny (I'm out of town) - the FREE clutch plates just landed on my doorstep from UPS. When he asked for my address, I thought I would get a hat or sticker or maybe a price list. Alto was very good to us supporting the XBRR. Their plates did help the clutch live. Give em a good soak in the oil you choose to use before installation. It helps with durability. | ||

Last set, I musta soaked almost a week before the build. I gotta say the slipper is a pretty amazing thing to have for braking/turning! (and good to know I got 2 spare sets of plates now - and all I did was ask them IF they were going to continue making them!) | ||

Alto Carbonite makes clutch plates for a full range of HD applications. The plates that I have in my M2 are the same ones used in 90's Evo big twins and 91-03 sportsters. By the way... How do you like them? I just put them in my bike and haven't run it yet. | ||

I can't compare the Alto Carbonite to any others since they were on the slipper from day one. I've heard nothing but good about Alto Carbonite for clutch plates for ALL racing applications - automotive and bike. The cool thing is the slipper makes such a great improvement in turning/braking confidence that I'd be recommending it before I'd recommend motor mods (besides the EBR race module now that it's available) | ||

I am still tempted to try hooking up a slipper clutch to my bike. I have access to stuff, I will see if I can make an XB basket fit a tuber. | ||

Erik, I had asked Henry about the slipper basket going onto a tuber when I first got mine, he wasn't sure. I'm really curious. STM (manufacturer) isn't really fast on email responses so I haven't asked them. If you wanted to try an experiment, I've got leftover XB stock clutches, could send you a stock XB basket. You could see if it'd fit and if you needed it to cut out the splined hub, you'd be welcome to keep it. It'd Be good to know how the two compared - not that I'd be putting a slipper on my S3 - but I got asked this a few times by the guys at Antelope Valley where I did the work. PM me if you wanted a stock basket to compare to the tuber clutch basket. |
