In addition to doing the team challenge at Daytona, I am going to bring my XB12R race bike to race a sprint class. The only mods on the bike are race ecm and muffler and it still has the belt. I am able to keep up with or in front of built SV650s.

My question is, which class would it be best for me to enter? Keep in mind I only have the $$ for one class to pre-register at this time (that may change).

THE XB12R top end with the 190 tire and stock belt is close to 133 mph. the bike will hit top end halfway around the banking, then you sit right below the rev limiter. we ran the 190 for the extra mph, but we blew the engine any way, so be careful.
I would run Thunderbike and Pro Thunder, then lightweight GP and superbike.
I would try to find a chain drive, you can go 148 at least with the good running stock engine, if you are geared correctly

top end with the pirelli 180 was about 129
we used a gps to figure this out, the 190 mounts up and works fine

you can run in the supersport class. This is for stock bikes. Basically no engine mods but suspension, ECM and exhaust changes are okay. You would be way more competitive there than in thunderbike. There should be 165 MPH + bikes running in thunderBike. Since no more Buell money, why bother running an under powered bike in race when you can run in a more evenly matched class. .

+1 Supersport

Make sure you're running a stock airbox with a filter though

WOW, I expected a little better then 129. That is a bit disappointing to hear. I was hoping it would be in the 135 - 140 range. What year bike was that with and with what mods?

By the way, thanks for the tip on the 190 tire. At least that is good for four more MPH.

My 09 will be making its racing deput there. It only has 375 miles on it. Hope it doesn't blow up........

Thanks for the tips! I have run a 190 before and may run it for Daytona.

Eboos,

Most likely expert. Since WERA has bumped me, I'll probably man up and white plate it for CCS too (even though I will probably only be racing for the one race weekend at Daytona).

the bike that did 129 with the 180 rear was stock xb12 motor, xb9 throttle body, Moto ST spec, 89 hp, 78 lbs torque, the gearing was the speed limiter, not the motor, we went 148 with the same motor and the correct gearing

Easy. Run a tube framed Buell. Nobody will know what the hell it is, let alone what is supposed to be on it. Still finish short of a podium position. Nobody cares. Then go home pissed off at yourself.

That's worked for me for the past 3 years. lol

07 and up. Is retrofitting allowed? There is no mention in the CCS rule book.

if you don't put a chain drive on it don't waste your time . You will run out of gear before you come out onto the front straight. Just a word to the wiz.

Chain Drive please??? Who can hook me up with a chain drive? Anyone have a used one for sale? The Buell racing site isn't up and running yet.

Can you get a little more out of the 08/09 since it has a higher redline? I'm new to the Buell family so I'm trying to figure all this stuff out, quickly!

You may still be able to buy the factory race kit chain conversion at a dealership. Otherwise, just contact EBR.

Check the classifieds here. There may be a chain conversion for sale. Seek out Super Dave. He may have one for sale. dave.rosno@team-visionsports.com

"Supersport Airbox"
At every race they will tech 1st-3rd in random classes. Lightweight Supersport has been one of them in the MidWest region from time to time and you MUST have an air fliter on the bike and an unaltered airbox (not full of holes)

The actual cover won't matter since the later covers with the holes by the gas filler are a factory piece.

Wish I could join you at Daytona, I'm sick of the cold and snow here!!

Mutation racer,

Do you have experience with that conversion kit? It looks interesting on the website. I'd like to see a picture of it on a bike so I can see how it is designed and how it functions. Good price!

I like Pete's Conversion kit but talked to them yesterday, Pete wasn't available, and they are out of stock. Further, Pete is in the process of re-designing it so the new version won't be available for about two months.

Dave has the old HAL's version for sale, but Henry at Buell told me it would take some doing to make it work on the 08 /09's because of some changes.

If I don't come up with something, I guess I'll just skip put on Daytona. Don't want to risk blowing up a brand new bike the first time out. Sucks, its a double points round too! Like everybody tried to tell me, I probably should have kept the SV....

Paint remember I have plenty of ratios. we can bring a chain kit for the bike. I have two of the kits. You can run one just for Daytona then put it back on my other bike. We will bring my race bike and street bike.

The rear get the vortec sprocket, front renthal, idler use the stock roller, put the urethane wheel or a sprocket on it and cut a slot to take up slack. this is a chain drive in a pinch. The sporty front standard sprockets fit fine green lock-tite on the nut. Get a few chains cut to length for ratio changes. my renthal is a 21 tooth, and 22 tooth PBI makes them also. I have 46 to 52 rears. I will have these whit Us.

I have a GSD Idler and a free spirits idler both are great no issues the GSD is more crash safe where the sprits is lighter. I can get pictures if needed. The race day count down is on.

paintshaker you want to use a slight gear change? 21/47 to 48 should do you good for the long streak or get you closer than the belt with comparable speeds.
if you get to practice we can set up two rears one 46 rear and one 47. then see what works best with your bike. we want 7200 rpm max but not bouncing off the limiter but also not driving off the corners in the infield.

your call my friend!
I have the chain drive covered.

Mutation_racer, I'll try to give Pete a call Monday or Tuesday and see what he has to say.

I can't talk bad about the SV though, I won a LOT of RACES last season on one including a National Championship at Daytona.

Xopti,

I'll let you know on the chain drive. I am trying to work a couple extra details to pick up some extra $$$. Hopefully I'll be able to run at least one practice and the race on a new set of tires instead of take-offs.
