In the February issue of RRW there's an article comparing the 1125R, 1125CR and XR1200. There's also a comment about BRP trying to buy the 1125RR from HD and how the offer was refused. Interesting read but it makes me sick to think about what could have been if....

When you say BRP are you talking about Bombardier Recrational Products? The same guys who own Rotax?

I really hope that Erik can go work for them at some point. They got the cash and forward thinking to make the thoughts in his head become reality, with out holding him back. Weather they were called buells or they put them under the can-am name, i think myself and all buell fans would embrace that, and dump HD for good.

BRP is a good company. They are forward thinking. And they already own the company that makes the 1125 engine. We know they can make a power plant.

Backcountry, I don't care about carrying on with a street bike company. What I really want is race parts. EBR may be the answer. I will surely be a customer.

EBR will be your answer for race parts. But most of us would like to see Erik's dream of a true American streetbike stick around for a while. And a streetbike that sells will keep the funds flowing that will allow Buell to have a new bike in AMA racing when the 1125 platform is no longer competitive.

How on earth can they compare the 1125 models to the XR1200? That would be like comparing a Yamaha R1 to a Yamaha cruiser and just totally pointless.
Both bikes have their own strengths and their own markets, and prospective buyers are hardly likely to be torn between the two bikes when thinking of making a purchase.
If the press wnat to compare the 1125 to other bikes then it should be head to head against the KTM RC8, Ducati 1098, Morini and other large capacity V-Twin sports bikes, not 'retro roadsters'.

Maybe because Harley has the misguided idea that the XR1000 *IS* a sport bike.

The XR is the bike that is supposed to draw the younger sport bike crowd. I don't think so. Most Harley people think it's ugly and don't care about sportsters in general. As for the sport bike crowd, come on, this ain't no sport bike, sportier than a standard sportster but it's no Buell. I saw a review where it was pitted against the superduke and some other bike, and it actually stacked up pretty good, so it must be a pretty good "street" bike.

The XR will only draw the old farts who wanted a "real" XR when they were kids 30 years ago... but it aint gonna do squat for drawing in NEW riders.

It IS an interesting bike in its own right but a sportbike it will never be.

...oh and it seems Harley's idea of "racing" is to have Harley-versus-Harley - like the Destroyer "racing"

So I suppose their idea of "roadracing" will be to have an all-XR class.

The proof is in the pudding. The XR1200 is not selling at all in the New England area. I don't know about other areas in the US, but we've got great twisty roads, and a very enthusiastic motorcycle riding population, but there is ZERO interest in the XR1200 here. It certainly isn't for lack of trying.

That brand new XR would easily get its clock cleaned by any 10-year old Tuber in stock form on the track. It's a joke, just as the mothership itself has become.

See if you can get HD to tell you the "total sold at retail".

Even the HD execs are beginning to get pissed and starting to talk. . . As are some of the ones they "released" after they worked their asses off.

Myself and a couple of friends used to show up at local all Hardley races...they wouldn't let us unload a bike even for exhibition passes....after the time one of my friends outran the fastest Hardley there during an event...riding a lay-down Kawi H2 fueler...wasn't THAT fast....mid 5's 1/8th mile....they wouldn't even let me open the trailer up to display my bike...lol....good times...

I want to see an 1125 or better yet, an 1190 at the dragstrip...full drag chassis, properly set up....bottle fed at about 250 hp...that would stfu a bunch of jaw jackers.

I feel so lucky, I've got an XR1200 with the Storz black high pipes, the FBRAT 06 ULY and a 2008 25th anniversary 1125R. Can't wait for spring, got this piddly two feet of snow on the way for Christmas but that means spring will be even more appreciated.

I have reached the age where I no longer compromise, That XR is the best motorcycle for running fast on the gravel roads that dominate central minnesota. The Uly just requires too much lean too feel comfortable, high center of gravity. The 1125R just has too much power for an old fart like me on gravel.

Unfortunately for Harley there are very few customers like me. There loss, I got mine.

I have an '07 Sportster with the Storz tank, seat, rear-sets and high Bub pipes. I'll be putting it back to stock so I can sell it this spring. The Storz stuff will be worth more off the bike. This is the most ill handling bike I've every ridden. The rubber mounted engine doesn't help. My Yamaha FJR has taken it's place as my commuter and the 1125 track bike gives me all the thrills I need. No more Harleys for me.

With tongue in cheek I say this: the only way to have even a close resemblance of a true XR bike would be to start with an XR1200, get a Champion or similar race frame, shed about 200 lbs, and then put in a Rotax engine. Better yet just put XR race glass on almost any Buell tuber or 1125...................nevermind.

Having ridden any number of "True Xr's" I can say without a doubt they are an incredibly poor street bike. The crank hp is north of 100, the weight is about 350 lbs and the power curve resembles a light switch. The vibration will destroy a wristwatch if you ride too long. The Harley XR1200 is about the best compromise for a streetable XR available.

Most of the looks and it starts everytime you push the button. With the BUB exhaust on it makes all of the sounds the "true XR" does, which is what I was looking for. I still can't believe my good fortune, Harley built me a bike.

no offence to that replica bike, but look at how ducati failed in their replica sales.
they look nice but to be in a showroom.
new generations get more demanding as technology adavances and want slicker bikes with better handling and more power and now even more energy efficient.
Chrome personally does not do a thing for me i guess that is why the XB and the 1125R got my attention in the first place over a typ HD

Also, the Ducati replicas were VERY impressive in equaling or exceeding the look AND performance of the racing machines to which they paid tribute.

When they first came out, Ducati had several models in the sport classic line. Now there is but one. I don't think it's a large seller. http://www.ducati.com/bikes/sportclassic/gt_1000/i ndex.do

I liked the new monsters more, but they need a belt conversion.

I wonder if the new race series will help xr sales? Assuming that is still a go. HD probably isn't going to be the big money behind it anymore.

I couldn't wait to ride an XR1200, actually BEING one of the old farts who dreamed of owning an XR750 when I was a kid. I had the chance to ride a privately owned XR1200, and was really, really disappointed. Honestly, it didn't feel like it had much more power than my '83 BMW R100, and I would have kicked it's butt in the twisties with the Beemer, let alone what ANY Buell could have done to it in that regard. It WAS a cool idea, though, sadly, too heavy and underpowered.
