I am helping a friend looking to race a Buell next year and he is looking for a primary sponsor. He has all the little guys set up but the big fish are always tough to come by. Could any of you guys help out? Badweb never ceases to amaze me with the contact available here.

Here is what I need:

Actual names and contact info for individuals in high level marketing positions in companies that currently support racing. OR the same kind of individual in a company that is not currently sponsoring racing BUT the individual is a motorcycle road racing fan.

I need company names, individuals names and titles and, if you have it, a physical address.

If the individual actually know you and we can you’re your name for an introduction let me know that also.

Telling me that Milwaukee Tools would be a great fit does not move me any closer to the goal. We can all think of lots of companies who we think would be a great fit. Telling me that Joe Blow, Marketing Director of Milwaukee Tool is a huge MC racing nut, rides a GSXR and is located in the Houston office goes a long way.

Please send info to me at buell.racing@yahoo.com. Put SPONSOR in the subject line.

Thanks
Dave

Does this racer have any direct contact with businesses through their own hobbies, activities, interests? Those would be good starts since it sounds like your racer has already looked at the "usual" sponsors.

Sometimes a racer starting from scratch is better off pulling the strings they may already have in place with organizations, retailers, etc. - unrelated to racing (Cameras? Electronics? Heck, even restaurants, book stores, local theatre companies needing publicity) - expect to do a season just GETTING exposure and documenting that exposure for bigger/better sponsors the NEXT season.

Not too many obvious sponsors for motor sports that aren't already HAMMERED by every potential racer.

Does he/she have a resume'? What race series? (or multiple series) That'll kinda give a sense of the viewing audience. Do they yet have a racing record? Documented exposure (column inches) - air time (radio/TV) - publicity speaks the loudest and will be what the sponsor NEEDS to justify the "investment."

Times are tough. Racers are eating their dead... but you probably already know that.

Of yeah I know. we are just looking to expand the hunt and badweb is a good place to troll.

Actually any sponsor money we find may indirectly help anyone racing a Buell.

I'm ALWAYS trying to think of interesting connections. If it weren't for the fact that I VEHEMENTLY disagree with AARP's position on some recent issues, I'd be seeking THEIR "sponsorship"... not so much sponsorship as a chance to get some more column-inches of exposure.

I'm thinking of every way I can to try and get some sponsorship but I'm actually turning sponsorship "on its head" in 2010. I WILL BE SPONSORING: Live performances (music, stage) - local theatre groups, etc. Going to try and have a season-opening party in Washington DC if I can pull it off. This is JUST to pad the resume' and THEN in another year... maybe actually DO something with a REAL racer.

Grasping at straws is tough.

Yeah getting racing money is always tough. My guy has done OK but is ready to move to a whole new level.

Good luck with your project, it sounds like fun.
