If you have experience with mapping the race ECM then I would appreciate it if you would please help by answering some questions.

--What does this statement from the quick start file mean? "Important: After the calibration is sent down, the switched ignition input must be cycled with the power remaining at the constant battery input – "
Does that mean cycling the stop switch or the key? I'm thinking stop switch cause if you cycle the key there goes your "constant battery input."

--How can I tell if my map made it to the ECM?

--Below is the process I went through. Please point out any mistakes I made.

1. Download all files from CD that came with ECM.
2. Download all 3 files that came with my TH slipon (ldb, hex, and prj) into the same directory.
3. Install the PCM program.
4. Read the quick start document, the supplement document just tells you to read the quick start doc.
5. Install the race ECM.
6. Plug the serial port cable into the bike at the only place it can plug in on the ECM loom and into the serial port on the PC.
7. Start the PCM program.
8. Load the .prj file from TM.
9. Set the COM port.
10. Turn on the ignition key and make sure run switch is on run, program says port is open.
11. Program asks for the module key, it’s on the front of the module, entered it.
12. Click on Cal-Download File.
13. Program automatically asks for the proper .hex file, so I opened the one from TM.
14. Program gets active, Port: COM1, Status:Connected, Module Version: B3RYDOL4, Process=Polling.
15. After about a minute I switch the run switch off and on. Disconnected the serial cable and started the bike. Starts right up, idles rough for a couple minutes. Once warmed up I try the throttle it stumbles a little off idle but revs freely after that.

If you could offer some advice it would certainly be appreciated. I have already left a message on Henry Duga’s recorder. Tried to locate another person at Buell racing that I was told is the go to guy for ECM operations. But this is Monday after Homecoming and I’m sure they’re all busy.

Good part is that once I get through this process I should be able to repeat it in the future for updates from Dris.

Thank you, Doug

Walt, thanks for the call!! Still doesn't idle perfectly when cold, but does well after about 30 sec. Idles smooth now, but does like to be cleaned out.

So here's the new process:
1. Plug the serial port cable into the bike at the only place it can plug in on the ECM loom and into the serial port on the PC.
2. Start the PCM program.
3. Load the .prj file from TM.
4. Turn on the ignition key and make sure run switch is on run, program says port is open.
5. Click on Module->Send All.
6. Program gets active, Process=Loading XX%.
7. When Process=Polling, click Module->Verify
8. Turn key off and back on.
9. Click Module->Verify.
10. Zeroize throttle.
11. Start the bike.

Seems so easy now.

Thanks again, Doug

Call Bob Sweeney at Buell Racing. He's now the OFFICIAL Race ECM expert and has been incredibly helpful!

He's emailable and very responsive to licensed racers with questions.

Robert (put "dot" here) Sweeney "at" buell (another "dot") com

He will always talk to you if he's not ON the dyno and will email back within a day.

Wow! guess I should have posted back here sooner.

Dris I responded to in email. Steve thanks for the post. I will save the info.

Actually, Walt got me running. What a circus. From not understanding the process to not having a convenient computer with a working serial port. In the end I did use my Vista laptop with USB to serial adapter. Then Walt's process and sure enough all is well.

When I got to the track I only got to put two full sessions on it before I crashed and broke ribs/collar bone. I'll be back on track in September.

I did get to see that even though I was late on the gas coming out of corners and early getting off (I hadn't ridden in almost 6 months) I was easily reaching my previous top speeds. If I were using my normal points my straightaway speeds would have been much improved. You can definitely feel the difference coming out of corners. The Torque Hammer and Dris' map make a big difference.
