I'd think that a Paypal link might work. I'm trying to recall IF the paypal links I've used in the past every left the seller's email address "vulnerable" to spam-bots.

Blake: would it be appropriate to post a link to Shawn's fund-raising if he ever got it going? He was interested but he's on the road since Willow - back to Milwaukee and then on to Barber. Last email he said he's not setup on Paypal. Should be easy for him to put a link on his website and blog, I'd think.

He is really a true, old-school privateer this season. Kinda reminds me of the guys racing in On Any Sunday - travelling in their vans, pushing the bikes out at night so they have a place to sleep.

I'd like to see Badweb supporting him through the individuals here - there certainly is interest.

I won't see him for a couple months - Infineon is the same weekend as next Willow Springs racing so it's a conflict for me. I will shoot him an email and maybe next week he'll have a Paypal link setup.

Gotta run again - BARELY getting away with abusing computer priveleges at work...

Shawn elected to race Willow instead of the AMA races this past weekend. He took home two more Twins wins and a sixth in F1.

I have SUCH mixed emotions about seeing Shawn racing here at Willow this weekend. It meant that he'd be losing AMA points but likely making more money.

Being a starving privateer is a tough life.

We talked a minute or two about fundraising schemes and I told him that people on Badweb are actually ASKING to donate... and he said that he can't bring himself to accept donations but he's working on T-Shirts and other swag he can sell to support the "cause."

He's looking forward to Road America... he wouldn't miss Road America for the world.

What's probably difficult for him to understand is that we wouldn't be doing it because we felt "sorry" for him or were treating him like a charity case . . . we'd be doing it because we would like to feel we are part of the effort.

He'd actually be doing us a service by allowing us to donate. How cool would it be to take some friends to the track and explain to them that you're going to see: "The rider I'm sponsoring in AMA Superbike."

Shirts are a great idea. How about a special $100 shirt? Then Shawn and other fans could recognize supporters at the track.

How cool would it be to have a group of 20-30 fans all together in the stands wearing their Higbee-Racing shirts. Maybe SpeedTV could even give them some face-time.

Higbee's Hooligans or something . . .

... oh and did I mention he won BOTH twins classes (again)?

Eric Nolan on the ProItalia 1098R was still 20 seconds behind him (though they BOTH lapped me!!)

On the shirt idea, the guy/company that does the RMR stuff is just 12-15 miles from the Infineon track. I have his card and we are going to have a sit down about a shirt for our shop. Our riders do Wed Night Drags, AFM Road Racing and Bonneville LSR. We want both a team shirt, as well as T-shirts. Steve I will tell you how it goes, he is interested in getting our business even as small as we are.

On getting lapped, it's just something I do, my ex boss is a four time SCCA National Champion and in a 35 minute indoor cart session he got me five times. But I felt good, as the other three former SCCA F-Ford folks only got me three times. Steve you did good and I am proud of you. Terry - JT&S Performance.

how many names can be printed on a shirt? i mean, imagine if every donor could get a "sponsorship" spot on a shirt, or even on his bike. very small print, but who would really care? kinda like the stanley cup. it's on there, that's all that matters. and the decals on his bike could be printed out individually and not need a huge paint/decal job. stadiums do named bricks, so why not?

Dat's a fak Jack!

I'd be all over a $100 Shawn Higbee Racing shirt. I am thrilled with what he's doing and how well he is doing it.

Hints of Mr. Buell's youth. . . . . and I've never met a nicer guy.

Count me in for whatever goes down.

Ok, so, Shawn needs an intervention...LOL!

For Shawn...

I know he remembers Quarterley. Dale did lots of work on his own, and he was very capable and knowledgeable. Not unlike Shawn, obviously.

Dale had a group of guys that got together that pooled some money to help Dale out too. They were originally recognized as "The Boyz" on Dale's RC30's. In similar fashion, Dale was not looking for this, but, as true enthusiaists, The Boyz saw things in Dale that they liked and wanted him to succeed in his tough endeavor.

Shawn...this is the position you're in now. You've got a group of people that generally don't have the ability to do what you can do. They recognize what you have, and they want to be a part of your success. It's a gift.

Later, one of The Boyz was able to justify getting his company involved further in Dale's improving and recognized program. That wasn't a gift, it was business. So, Shawn, you know this isn't about doing much less work, but it should help you out to have that leverage to continue pushing up hill all the time toward the next goal, the next race, and the next year.

Let some of your fans give you a little boost. It's all good!

I know this first hand. Practically had to beg to be allowed to pay for gas a couple of times at Fontana.

He's a fantastic racer, but exhibits a serious deficiency when it comes to accept support for his efforts.

I would very much like to get behind Higbee's racing effort because he's now a privateer who worked for Buell contributing much to the capabilities of Buell's legendary handling, plus, he's part of the Bartels' race team -- Bartels', my closest HD/Buell dealer!

+1 Sd26, "They recognize what you have, and they want to be a part of your success..."

$100 Shawn Higbee T-shirts is a neat idea. Showing up at the races with one of these or, even better, getting one in his pit would be cool.

Just brainstorming here, but that's probably more workable than the Team Elves idea of getting your name on the bike with a sizable donation. That was a good idea because it was for one event but:
1) Shawn's effort is ongoing; those who might contribute later in the year wouldn't get their name posted until that time.
2) Someone would have to take time to manage posting names on the bodywork, taking time away from maintaining the machine.
3) What if body panels needed to be swapped out? Someone would have to post all the names on replacement panels.

Darryl, I'm not sure if anyone giving to the cause is looking for a name posting. If so, maybe those people should speak up. Usually, a good sponsorship package for an AMA racer with a name on the bike should be worth about $5k. Quarterley's Boyz totaled $10k in the early 90's between four friends.

Shirts are cool. I think most would be happy to have an "exclusive" shirt. That's payment enough for the opportunity to help, isn't it?

T-shirts are a killer idea.
I'm in for one.
There is a great t-shirt place in KC that we've use for Team Elves and for Fireman Jim in the past.
Good quality shirts, good ink that doesn't fade and decent prices with quick turnaround.
They are VERY easy to work with and will help with formatting etc.

I'll help if needed.

Shirt design is going to the screen printer shortly. They will be ready for RA.

The plan is Ebay/Paypal and direct sales at the track. The design is complete and approved....lol

$20 plus a few bucks for shipping. Perhaps paint pen autographed ones for something more.

It's a great logo, and I will get it posted here tomorrow.

I'm thinking I might buy a bunch, take them to the track with, and give them out to friends and strangers if they'll agree to cheer for Shawn.

Might be a fun way to meet people.

This is the shirt in the works.

I've been getting hammered about the price, so $25 is now the price plus a few bucks for shipping...lol Working hard to have 150 for homecoming and Road America. Get your orders into friends attending. Ebay and Paypal right after. Turn around is quick so making more is not a problem.
