Nope . . . tried to post a .pdf of the timing results from Daytona . . . . but the file is too large.

The Buells did VERY WELL . . . a bit of heartbreak but a fabulous comeback and they had a great showing.

Damn, GOOD JOB Shawn! You da man!

Danny, great ride, - S#&it happens. That's racing, sometimes lady luck is not on your side. Next year, next race.

The team needs to go over the bike with a fine tooth comb before a 200 miler. Wonder if the bolts fell out that hold the pod on, that's what it looked like.

Good luck to you guys this season!

I am thinking something broke on the pod-either to make it come loose or as it was flapping around? If not, they could have thrown a couple bolts. It would have taken a few seconds as opposed as to a few minutes.

God, I am still sick about that. I was literally sweating during the first part of the race with Danny dicing for the lead. Damn.

The first few laps were great!
I could almost read Danny's mind when he was in the pit and grabbed his own roll of duct tape. I was thinking the same thing watching the crew try to tape it the way they were doing it.
Too bad it happened I think he could've diced for the lead the whole race.

Congrats to Shawn! 5th place is pretty cool!

I'm trying not to be too hard on the pit crew. I'm trying to keep in mind they're real people with real families who aren't in this for the money, but doing it because they love it.

They'll learn and be better prepared next time. That's what it's all about.

As for Shawn, I was really hoping he would have a good showing. No matter what happend to Danny or Barney, they've got RMR and Geico behind them and they'll have a fruitful season.

I'm hoping that whoever was thinking about backing Shawn before dropping out at the last minute will reconsider after seeing that performance.

Anyone who hasn't checked out his web-site yet definitely should:

http://www.higbee-racing.com/

The blog is a GREAT read and really gives some insight into what's going on behind the scenes and just how gutsy his performance was.

And if anyone has a minute to drop a note to one (or several) of his sponsors to let them know how much you value Shawn's efforts and their support, it would probably help ensure future funds.

First eleven laps was the best racing I've ever seen in the Daytona 200. Danny's pod malfuntion was truly heartbreaking, but Shawn's steady progress through the field was amazing.

Congratulations for great efforts Danny and Shawn.

It is a HELLUVA tough thing to expect Eslick NOT TO HELP - even though touching the bike by the rider can mean a DQ... though his eventual DQ was apparently from passing under the escorted laps.

I hope they eliminate this NA$CAR-ish fetish. Waving yellow is simple and straight forward.

Wasn't home in time to watch last night (went to see Watchmen); stayed off of Badweb ALL day today until I could watch the race. JUST got through watching it.

First eleven laps was the best racing I've ever seen

+1 to that. It was awesome. Congratulations to Shawn.

Any details on the problem with Elick's bike yet? Did a bracket break or did a bolt just vibrate out? He sure would have been sitting in the sweet spot if the bike had just held together.

It's gonna be a good year for Buell.

Hugh, there was an anon post in another thread. The part that failed was not a stock part. I think Shawn was running the stock part, and it was fine.

I was there.. in the pits for Liberty Waves Antelope Valley 1125R team (took 3rd in MotoGT). You should have seen Shawn's pit crew, they were beside themselves with excitement. Mitsu, the tech from Bartels, jumped I swear 4 feet straight up when Shawn passed the finish line.
I was in a firesuit, so jumping was out of the question.

Working the pits and being on the raceline is an experience I will never forget. I am so glad I decided to go.

Reep regarding Mitsu....

Yes he does, and goes about his business in a quiet and calm fashion.

Couldn't have been done without Mitsu and Bill.

Shawn's father Paul, and brother Mike were invaluable as well.

The bike got built/rebuilt in the garage and in the trailer in a single very long day. Then took another day to tidy up for the race. Read Shawn's blog at www.higbee-racing.com.

About the race. Shawn stayed on the lead lap which is something only 13 of 75 starters did after 37 laps, when the caution/red/caution happened. Picking the correct lap to pit under caution for the 2nd stop made a huge difference. A year of Moto-ST experience, borrowed radios, and the over the wall bunch from JGR paid off.

After that the man put his head down, and marched forward....

quote:

(Saturday, March 07, 2009) Shawn Higbee made an incredible and unexpected run from a 16th place start to a fifth place finish in the 68th running of the Daytona 200 Friday night at Daytona International Speedway with a Buell 1125R that was virtually built from the ground up in the Speedway garages in the days prior to the race.

Unexpected to who?

The PR folks obviously don't know Shawn.

:-)
