"BTW, none of the Buells are at the weight they are allowed, and the engines are bone stock except for pipe and EFI programming. "

How did the 1125 gain 10mph on the top speed with just a pipe an EFI tuning?

Plus considering the following, it's even more impressive:

quote:

“We got some time on the bike here last weekend [during the CCS/ASRA race event], but I hadn’t ridden that bike until today. The Buell 1125R is working awesome. It really gets through the infield well.”

"This is only, with all the races and everything I did, that's probably only the tenth time I've thrown a leg over it, so every time we go out we're making progress."

Danny Eslick from Daytona

Not knowing anything more than anybody else here - I'd bet they have upped the rev limit by another 500-700 RPM

I see John Ashmead listed in the RR World article. He should know the way around, he won the 200 in '89.

The top speeds come from drafting, and yesterday from one heck of a tailwind.

The increase in top speed is likely due to more power from the pipe and tuning( probably a bumped rev limit) combined with a taller gear ratio(chain driven)

Well, 181 in a "600" based class? That's really, really fast. 173 is really, really fast.

Bikes might be stock, but I would bet they have been pulled down and gone through. That's worth something.

Aerodynamics on Japanese bikes isn't so great either. So, maybe Buell's focus on that is finally paying off too at Daytona.

I love seeing Stuporbike Planet squirming in their tight knickers with titles like:

Congratulations to Buell and Danny Eslick. Getting so close to a Pole Position, only to have it grabbed away on the last lap is a real achievement.

I almost posted the headline I'd like to see concerning JapaneseBike Planet, but then I remembered that this is a family forum.
I really hope that all the Buells do well in the 200. I'll be glued to the Idiot Box tonight. It sure would be sweet...

Ya'll don't think the headline was just a little tongue in cheek? I thought it was funny. But hell, I race an R6.

Go Barney!!!

We don't think it was funny 'cause that site has been pretty consistantly anti-Buell for a long time. Lots of nasty little comments that were uncalled for.

I am really pumped up about tonight. Not just because of the Buell but because the whole DMG deal of making different types of bike competitive in the same class seems to be working out so far. There other goal was to level the playing field so that privateers had a chance to run with the factory bouys and that certainly seems to be the case with Eslick.

Go Buell!

The ONLY time I can recall Stoop printing a favorable comment about Buell was when they were quoting a 3rd party.

Roadracing World is a bit more even-handed... heck, they even fielded an XB9 back in the day (2004)

I can't speak for the bikes in the 200, but I know of an 1125R locally that was tuned with a pipe that picked up nearly 30hp at the rear wheel.

Yea, it's obvious the stock production ECM calibration is not a performance tune - it's a EPA tune. There's a lot left in there untapped!

The top speed at Daytona was effected by a very serious tail wind is what I have heard. The bike does not have a ton of extra power and is actaully HP restricted by the rules.

No, there are HP limits. 3lbs per HP with dyno measurement. The bike weight determines the HP limit.}

Roadracingworld is the motorcycle news source that I value most. I find that their reporting is much more fare then other magazines. Even though their initial review of the 1125R weighed in too heavily on the preproduction quirks, I can't say that I have seen any real Buell bashing from them.
